Executive summary
The primary purpose of the paper is to evaluate the mixed research method that used in
the research study of the author Wajcman and Martin (2002). In other words, a literature review
is done in the form of critical analysis that determines the suggestions and statements of several
authors in relation to this topic. Besides this, it is noted that both survey questionnaire and semi-
structured interviews were conducted that demonstrates the mixed methods research procedure.
It is seen that a total number of six Australian companies were selected for the research study of
which in survey research 470 managers were responded for the questionaries' and 136 managers
for the interviews. Hence after analyzing the results, it is clear that by following the modern

Introduction
The book of Wajcman and Martin (2002) suggested that to reveal the identity of modern
management; it is important to conduct a mixed research method on the basis of some company
background. Therefore to conduct the mixed research procedure six Australian companies are
chosen by the author that demonstrates the identity difference between both male and female
managers working in the corresponding firm. The author also suggested that the mixed research
procedure used in this research study help in determining the identity of both genders in terms of
modern environment. In addition, the paper will focus on the literature review that demonstrates
critical analysis of various studies in relation to this corresponding topic. Moreover, the
importance of mixed research methodology and analysis of data will also be further discussed in
this paper.
Literature review
The researcher will explain the knowledge in accordance with the study material and also
in relation to the topic. In this literature review, various theories, as well as concept, are reviewed
that help the researcher to demonstrate the study material in an effective manner (Stepanchuk,
2017). In addition, the information in relation to various article and research procedure will also
help to describe the topic clearly that eventually help the researcher to conduct the study
procedure in a better manner. Apart from this, the critical approach in accordance with the study
also helps to gather detail information regarding the topic and analyze as well as thoroughly
evaluate each subtopic. According to the author Gill, (2015), identity differences are present
corresponding to the modern environment, and this depend on the various types of organization.
The author suggested that story or narratives are used interchangeably, and therefore it is
used as a theoretical lens for exploring and conceptualizing organizations and their identities in
terms of both gender (Seddon, 2015). In addition, it is noticed that the modern management
procedure provides an explicit intrusion that helps both the gender to achieve their goals and also

workplace has been considering as the bedrock of people's character as well as their identities
that generally takes place after the implementation of this modernization procedure. In other
words, the author Flotman & Mayer, (2017), stated that women generally developed their
identities as well as a character through their responsibilities or duties and also through their
engagement in the workplace. On the other hand, men developed their characters of identities in
accordance with the workload and position in their workplace. Therefore, from this fact, it is
clear that the identity differences between both genders have arisen in accordance with the
working procedure of the modern environment.

management procedure some small areas of changes were noticed between the working
procedure of both male and female workers. The author suggested that in past decades gender
differences constitute the major issue in the workplace but with the advancement of modern
management operations the effective procedure will thus change, and that creates a positive
impact on the women identities. However, the author Pick, Symons & Teo, (2017), stated that in
the present day female employees worked slightly more in their workplace in comparison to the
male employees and therefore it sometimes creates a negative attitude of the women in the
workplace. Hence, with the advancement of management procedure through this impact has
changed in the workplace and the females give positive attitude in their corresponding
workplace.
Methodology design
Explanation of the whole procedure undertaken in concerning this study and also in
relation to the topic is done in this section. In this research study, a mixed research methodology
is used that clearly explained the main context of the procedures used in this particular topic.
Besides this, with the help of research methodology, the researchers will identify the most

particular research study (Reedy, King & Coupland, 2016). Therefore, to conduct the research
study descriptive type research design is chosen that evaluate the reasons for the occurrence of
this identity differences in between the male and female employees in accordance with the
modern management procedure. In addition, by following this particular design, the researchers
can easily explain the logic for which they select the mixed research methodology approach for
this study (Morrice, 2017).
For this research procedure, six companies in Australia are chosen, and two research
techniques are used such as survey method and semi-structured interviews respectively. The
survey research was conducted through a questionnaire on 470 male and female managers of
these six selected companies of Australia. On the other hand, semi-structured interviews are
conducted with 136 managers of each Australian company. By following the survey
methodology, it is noticed that about 69 percent of employees participated in this corresponding
research procedure. Therefore to produce the exact nature of male and female characters as well
as identities in terms of modern management procedure it was necessary that the researchers
should conduct another research procedure. Hence due to this reason, it can be said that the
mixed research method approach was chosen for this study that easily reliance on the single
research method (Alvesson, Kärreman & Ybema, 2017).
In other words, after reviewing the paper, it is clear that the study of managers along with
their careers through mixed research methods provides various benefits to the researchers. The
researchers conducted a survey questionaries' to all the managers of six Australian companies,
but they conducted interviews only to 18 and 26 top level to lower level managers of each
company. The main motive of the researchers to conduct these mixed research methods only to
get a clear view about the identity differences of their male and female employees and this only
successful by following the mixed method. Therefore, it is clear that missed research method will
thereby provide a distinct advantage to the researchers for this particular study.
Besides this, it cannot be said that mixed methods research will always be preferable than
the single method. As per the author Wajcman & Martin, (2002), both mixed and single method
research has used in accordance with different motives and the researchers use mixed method
research only to cross-check their assumptions in relation to the particular study. From the

research methodology, it is seen that only qualitative data were found from the semi-structured
interviews and with the help of this data the researchers establish the narratives of identity in
terms of modern management procedure. Therefore, it is clear that no quantitative findings were
provided in relation to this research study and hence this study cannot be treated as an exercise in
triangulation procedure.
Data collection
In this section brief discussion on the collection of data for this corresponding study are
mentioned. As in this study, the mixed research methodology was used, so data collection
procedure is quite a critical approach for this study. Data is considered as the effective procedure
that determined whether the study will be successful or not (Clavering, 2016). Therefore, on the
basis of topic data will be collected and following this case study the researchers gather both
primary and secondary as well as qualitative data. From the survey questionaries’ both primary
and secondary data were collected and from the semi-structured interviews, the qualitative data
were collected. The primary data provides the information and facts related to the research topic
whereas the secondary data comprises both offline and online sources of information on this
topic (Feddersen et al., 2018). In other words, the qualitative data found from the responses
given by the employees in terms of the interview method. Thereby with the help of this
qualitative data, the researchers try to analyze the feedback of the managers of the chosen six
Australian companies. Besides this, the qualitative data provides the detail forms of response,
and from this, the narrative data in relation to this topic are recorded.
Analysis
The collected data will be analyzed in this section, and therefore it is considered as the
important part of this research study (Vincent, Neal & Iqbal, 2018). The study is related to the
identity difference between male and female managers working in six different companies in
Australia. Therefore, the analysis part is a vital section that evaluates the respondent's review so
that practical observation is easily analyzed that eventually bring success for this particular
study. In the research study, the scholars or researchers have applied both the questionnaire
method and qualitative research methods so that they can easily conduct the study. With the help
of qualitative research methods, the managers of six different Australian companies were
interviewed, and their results will thereby enlighten the questions of this research topic.

Therefore, from the research study, it is analyzed that 470 managers were respondents in
relation to the questionaries' of survey research and 136 managers was responded from the semi-
structured interviews. After reviewing the feedback from the respondents, it is evaluated that
male respondent's answers the questions in a positive way when the researchers asked them
about the importance of family. On the other hand, the women respondents behave causally
when the researchers asked about the importance of families as well as careers. In addition, from
the survey analysis, it is noticed that both female and male managers responded similarly in
accordance with their working procedures although some sorts of differences were noticed in
relation to some variables. However, from the data analysis, it is clear that contrary in answers is
originated due to the career experiences of both genders in the working field.
Apart from this, after examining the qualitative data from the interviews, the researchers
are quite clear about the narratives of identity in terms of modern management procedure.
Besides this, after reviewing the research study of Wajcman and Martin, it is evaluated that both
female and male managers depicted their careers in relation to the market process. From this
view, it is thereby analyzed that both the male and female workers first were willing to develop
their skills, then gain experience and after that think about their career goals. Hence form this
mixed research method it is quite clear that in accordance to following the modern management
operative rules both the male and female employees concentrate on developing their skills rather
than to develop their career goals.

Conclusion and recommendations
In this section, the overall view of the researcher in this study will explain in relation to
the corresponding topic. This part mainly linked the objectives with that of the analysis part in
accordance with the selected topic. Apart from this, some recommendations are listed that clearly
shows the future study procedure of this particular study and also it includes some suggestions
that can provide better results for the study in the future. From the findings and analysis, it is
clear that by following the modern management procedure both the male and female employees
wanted to increase their skills and experience and not show interest to develop their career goals
for future.
In addition, the male employees show affirmative nature in tear answers while the
females employees reply casually in concerning the different questionaries' and also for the
interview procedure. Apart from this, it is recommended that in the modern management
procedure some changes should be provided so that both the gender can define their identities in
their workplace. On the other hand, changing of management procedure will thereby help the
male as well as female workers to give more focus on their career goals rather than to focus on
developing skills and experience in their working procedure.
