1GLOBAL WARMINGrelease of greenhouse gasses by the burning of fossil fuels. It has been estimated that from1906 to 2005, the global average surface temperature have risen by 0.6 to 0.9 degree Celsius, and in the last 50 years, the rate of increase in temperature has nearly doubles, and it seemscertain that the temperatures will keep on soaring (Global Warming, 2017). The greenhousegases are responsible for the absorption of the heat radiated by our sun, and keep the surfaceof the planet warm, which highlights the beneficial role of the greenhouse gases. However, anexcessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere caused due to the burning of fossilfuels and deforestation have resulted in the environment being affected adversely, andresulted in drastic increase in global temperatures and and related environmental changes.Savante Arrhenius (1859-1927) pointed out that burning of fossil fuels in the year 1896marked the beginning of the adverse effects of greenhouse gases on Earth. The massiverelease of these gases in the atmosphere has contributed to the phenomenon of globalwarming. This rise in temperature have caused significant negative effects on theenvironment (causing global changes in environmental patterns) and human life (effected bythe ensue of these environmental changes). Studies have shown that since the industrialrevolution, carbon dioxide levels have increased by 38% and methane by 148% as of 2009(Global Warming, 2017). Studies by the World Health Organization have shown that thenumber of disasters related to weather and environment has tripled since 1960’s, and causedmore than 60,000 human casualties, every year, mostly in developing countries. The studiesalso show that the number of deaths to rise to 250,000 per year, from 2030 to 2050. Therising temperatures also causes melting of the glaciers and rise in sea level, and changes theprecipitation patterns, which increases the prevalence of extreme weather conditions orchanges(Climate change and health, 2017). Therefore it is pertinent to engage inprecautionary actions to prevent such environmental catastrophes.

2GLOBAL WARMINGThesis Statement: Global warming, overconsumption and overutilization of resources, andan increased waste distribution have an overall negative impact on the environment and theplanet.Global warming has negative impacts on our planet and the effects are increasing on adaily basis as the rate of greenhouse effect increases. Other causes include over consumptionor over utilization of the existing natural resources where the available resources are less thanthe available population, environment footprint and increased waste distribution by humans.Effects of global warming causes climate change, the rise of sea level and pollution. To solvethese underlying problems caused by global warming on our environment, each one of usshould stand strong and unite to help come up with a solution important to protect our planetnot to be destroyed and also improve human survival. Narration:Root et al., (2003), pointed out that the scientific studies of the climatic changesstarted in the early 19th century, century where natural changes and ice ages were initiallynoticed together with the greenhouse effect evolution. Scientists have argued that theclimatic changes are triggered by an increased atmospheric pressure due to an increase ingreenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Different theories of climate change (like solarvariations and volcanism) were developed to explain these changes in weather patterns. Theeffects of global warming became evident in the 1960’s as the concentration of atmosphericcarbon dioxide increased, and scientists pointed out that the anthropogenic emissions ofpollution can be reduced, to alleviate the adverse effects on the environment that wererecorded by them. Various researches conducted by scientists made clear that climate changeis a significant change relating to developing weather patterns over specific periods rangingfrom days, months, years and even decades and is caused by various factors like oceanic
