Introduction
Project management is one of the necessary disciplines that are required to be followed and
implemented in the projects for project success. There are various deliverables that a project
team needs to provide as a part of the project management process. Project charter and
project plan are the two deliverables that are provided in the initiation and planning phases
and set up the base of the project. The charter and project plan for an online booking solution
for a car rental company are included in the report.
Project Charter
Project Background
The project is being developed for a medium sized car rental company. The company
provides its customers with the car and truck rental services and operates in three different
locations. The company currently has a total of 35 vehicles available for rent. The
organization is looking to expand in the other locations and there will be an online booking
solution needed with the expansion of the business.
Project Scope
The project scope will cover the following activities for the online booking solution:
Initiation and planning activities for the online booking solution covering feasibility
estimation, estimations, and planning of the project areas.
Design, development, and implementation of the online solution (Atkin, 2012).
Testing and change management of the solution.
Quality, communication, and risk planning & management for the solution.
Deployment of the system and conduction of the closure processes and activities.
Project Objectives
To provide the customers with the ability to book and track their vehicles using the
online medium.
To provide the company resources with the ability to keep a track of and manage the
bookings.
To allow the customers to check the availability of the vehicles for offering them the
ease of service and operations.

To allow the customers to make payments for the bookings for enhanced customer
engagement and satisfaction.
Business Problem/Opportunity
The medium sized car rental company is looking to expand in the other locations and there
will be an online booking solution needed with the expansion of the business. The absence of
the online solution will lead to difficulty in manage the bookings and the customer
engagement levels may also come down. However, the implementation of the online solution
will allow the company to enhance its customer engagement levels and gain competitive
advantage in the market (Ahmad, 2012).

Information Gathering Activities
Interviews
The technique will involve the identification of the stakeholders and candidates to be
interviewed for the online booking solution. The interview questions will then be prepared in
a formal document for each of the candidate or stakeholder group. The conduction of the
interviews will be done in which the candidates will be asked the questions and their response
will be recorded through automated recoding tools. The analysis of the response provided by
the stakeholders will be made.
