INTRODUCTION
Organisation is a group of people those are working in an organisation with the
common objective to attain organisational aims and objectives. The organisational behaviour
is an important technique of study which is used to describe various activities and
performances of each individual and team within the organisation (Ashkanasy, and
Humphrey, 2011). The main target of management is to take maximum advantage from
people to attain its long term objectives. It also presents the attitude and behaviour of
workers, employees toward management.
The main objective of this project assignment is to enable students to presents their
knowledge and understanding of various culture, politics and power on individual that they
possess in every organisation. The project consists of various information about alternative
academic culture model in relation to organisation culture within BBC. Impact of culture,
power and on employee behaviour within the BBC. Various techniques and theories of
motivation are discussed under this project. Understanding of various team and its effects on
mentioned case study. Overall, project discussed the behaviour in the context to BBC.
TASK 1
P1: a) Different models of Hardy organisational model
According to the case mention in BBC there are four important approaches can be
best suitable in relation to organization culture. Those are mention underneath:
Culture: It is one of effective system that is based on specific assumptions, value and
beliefs which indicate employees attitude and behavior towards other individual. These are
having great impacts on employees nature as well as organization environment. This will be
biggest ways to attain competitive advantages over other in BBC organization.
Politics: This can make huge influence those are having the power to determine
whether the overall culture at workplace can help in increasing productivity of an
organization. These individuals and teams have acquire various forms of powers those are
affecting administration profitability.

Power: It plays an important role in development of an organization. These are said to be
more evil and unjust. But excessive of power is accepted as endemics aspect to humans and
social beings.
Every organisation has to follow some value and policies which make them different
from one another. It has been seen that the principles and beliefs of an organisation form its
culture. It will help them to analyse the way employees of an organisation are interact with
each other as well as other external parties (Organisational Behaviour, 2016). It has also be
noticed that no any two organisation have same culture. It helps employees to adjust
according to their culture and work more effectively and efficiently (Babcock-Roberson and
Strickland, 2010). Some of the important models have been presented by many philosophers.
Like, Charles Handy is a well specialised philosopher in relation to organisational culture. As
per them, there are four kind of culture which every organisation need to have followed.
Those are:
Power: It is said to be more crucial aspects of an organisation where the power
remains in the hands of some people and only they have the option to take necessary
decision. They enjoy special privileges at the work places because major company decisions
are taken by them only. In those situation a culture the subordinate have no alternative
however to entirely take after their superior guidance. The workers don’t have the right to
express their perspectives or share their thoughts on an open manner and need to take follows
what their managers says. The directors in such a kind of culture they can be inclined toward
somebody or the other significant point among others.
Task culture: The main purpose of setting up of organisation is to attain the goals
and objectives or to resolve various issues related to task culture. In an organisation, those
people with having common aims unite together to develop a team (DiPaol and Tschannen-
Moran, 2014). The best part of them is that they all are equally participative and tried to
achieve their goals in more economic and innovative manner.
Person culture: In most of the organisation it has been seen that most of the
employees believe that they are more valuable assets to the company. Those organizations are
following a person culture. In which persons are more concern regarding their own interest
rather than organization. Employees are just come in for the purpose of getting money and
never get involved in any sort of activity. Workers should always work in for the purpose
attaining organisation to its mission rather than getting their own benefits.

Role culture: It is one of the important aspects of an organisation, as every
employees and workers have assign an effective role and responsibility according to its
capabilities and specialisation. In this culture employees are decided to do what is best useful
for the company and always ready to face any challenge comes in front of them. Each and
every people are accountable for some sort of tasks or the other and have the option to take its
ownership of the tasks to them. Under this situation, power is considered as one of the
important aspects of work culture.
According to the mention, case study about BBC which has been going in many
changes in last few years which is related with child abuse cases. Because of culture and its
systems of communication failure they need to face many issues. Those issues related with
bullying and harassment towards other members is major factor which is affecting
organisational performances. Above used various culture aspects these problems can be
overcome in more effective manner.
b) Analysis of culture, power and politics those are affecting the behaviour within the BBC
The affecting issues which are related with BBC in recent past and current situation
are mostly because of following ways:
Power: It is the authority of an individual which have the right to take action or decision in
relation to any issues arises in an organization. The company is facing problems of multiple
issues such as bullying and harassment which is happens among various employees
(Donaldson and Ko, 2010). The use of power in appropriate manner can resolve these issues
in more effective manner. This will consists of information about employees and their
decision which is stimulating performance of staffs. Some of them are related with power to
make decision, employees stimulation through delivering specific rewards.
Culture: As, it has been observed that culture is playing an important part in attaining long
term objectives. Employees those are related with various cultures, background are needed to
be appreciated so that they feel motivated to work and help company to achieve its future
objectives.
Politics: It is the major factors in an organization which is playing a dominant role in getting
results in more effective manner by utilizing resources in appropriate manner. It has been
seen that superior are using the skills and knowledge of people to get maximum outcome.
Kind of favoritism among employees is developed. It is associated with positive workplace

politics that have learn to navigate usefulness of employees behaviors in order to develop
BBC performance. Profitability can only be achieve if the firms is able to use a political
structure that must be simple for staffs in order to understand every single aspects those are
crucial for betterment of an organization.
Negative workplace politic is an essential aspects that can emerges climate of
negativity that can lead to develop negative impacts at the workplace.
TASK 2
P2: A) Content and process theories of motivation
Motivation: It refers as the processes that account for a person’s intensity, direction
and persistence of efforts in order to attain organisation objectives. It will help subordinates
to make their valuable skills in order to gain more effective results to achieve individual as
well as group goals. In case of BBC they have the difference aspects of inspiration can help
them to motivate people in order to representatives that are functioning in the BBC. There are
various theories which are related with organisational behaviour. Some of them are discussed
underneath:
Content theories: This theory is more focus on the resources for changing the human
requirement frequently. It is associated with information that why human needs and wants are
varies according to the time. It is mainly discuss the particular factors that motivate behaviour
of individuals. It consists of various parts such as:
Maslow hierarchy of need: This theory is based on classical direction of human
motivation. This is based on the assumption that is related with five major aspects of an
individual’s such as Physiological needs, safety, social, esteem and self actualisation needs.
They are motivated by unsatisfied needs. It has been found that each needs are significantly
satisfied as they are derives and forces the next required to emerge. In case the mention case
of BBC, physiological needs of motivation can be more effective as they can perform their
task in well manner if they are physically and mentally strong. These are crucial for
employees incorporate for survival and up keeping of life in more effective manner.
Safety and security needs are more satisfied in case order to analyze population
perception about employee relation with each other. It consists of well beings and social
security of any critical situations those are arises in BBC case.

Herzberg Two factor theory: This theory state that there are various factors in the
workplace which cause job satisfaction and other are related with dissatisfaction. Herzberg
classifies these factors into two parts:
 Hygiene factors: These are considered as one of the important factors which are
essential at the workplace. They do not last for very long time positive satisfaction.
 Motivational factors: As per Herzberg, the hygiene factors can not regarded as
motivators. Maximum positive satisfaction can be attaining through using this factor
only.
David McClelland theory:
 Need for achievement: This is having more positive need to set and attain challenging
objectives of an organisation (Berenbaum and Beltz, 2011). It helps to determine risk
to in achieving those goals.
 Affiliation: They are wanted to belong to the groups and remain connected with other
group those are working on a specific projects. They do not want to take more risk.
 Power: They are those people who want to control and influence other with their
talent. They always tried to enjoy competition and win.
Process theory: This theory is determined that how behavior of people in an
organization is energized, directed and controlled. It has been seen that process theory helps
to identify rationality aspects in motivational theory. By the help of this, one can analyses
current environment, formulation of thought and feeling or react on them by using specific
manner. There are mainly four theories consists in that manner:
 Reinforcement: Under this theory one can change someone’s attitude and behavior
by using reinforcement and punishment and extinction. Anything that increase the
power of responses and which consists of certain behavior of an employees. Any
undesirable situations in exists in employees attitude can easily be monitor through
using this aspects.
 Expectancy: In these employees’ behaviors and its performances are based on
individual factors like personality, skills, knowledge and other abilities. Under this an

individual make voluntary selection about whether job can be attain in efficient
manner. Or, is the outcomes is desirable for them.
 Equity: Under this, employees are motivated by fairness. It is based on assumption
that an employees use to make comparison about their efforts and benefits with those
of other skill which is being carried by some other employees. By the help of this
particular theory an individual can motivated by desire to treat them at equal level.
 Goal sharing: Small business and their workers can learn more from this theory of
motivation because everyone has to follow certain role to attain their goals. These are
mainly based on hypothesis that consists of specific aims lead to develop better
performance. The clear impact for managers is that to make employees to cooperate
with each employees so that better outcomes can be collected in coming time.
b):
From the above mentioned various theories of motivation. Employees and
management of BBC can help to rectify their issues so that fewer chances of mistakes can be
done. As it has been seen that performance and attitude of employees toward other are
affecting because of not having right thinking towards each other. These all can be changes
by using process theory because expectancy and reinforcement theory can be more helpful to
them to solve behavior of people. Maslow theory of motivation can also be the right option
for BBC to use in order to make their employees more positive towards getting their aims and
objectives. It is necessary for the BBC to make use of right of theory in that particular
organization in order to improve the performances of every employees. They can work in
efficient manner only if they are having any motivation facilities provided to them.
Expectancy theory can help managers to forces employees to reach their target by using their
best skills and capabilities they are having with themselves. Team effectiveness can only be
increase if they work according to the set standards which is being expected from them. Unde
this, one level of motivation depends upon the attractiveness of the reward and probability of
getting them.
c) To improve level of motivation in BBC
By the help of various motivational theories problems of BBC can be resolved. It has
been observed that because of ineffectiveness and lack of coordination among employees
organization is not performing well. The BBC has the option to select either of the theories to
rectify their mistakes (Wagner III and Hollenbeck, 2014). Goal sharing, equity theory can be

the right and accurate option to improve their level of motivation among people those are
working in an organization. Maslow hierarchy level of motivation can help them to control
child abuse situation which are prevail in their organization. The self esteem need and social
control need can be effective aspects of motivation for the employees to over the various
issues. There are various ways through which employees motivation can be enhanced. Such
as:
 Increase employee commitment: At the time employees are motivated in their work,
they can put their best efforts in any activities those are assign to them.
 Rectify employee satisfaction: It is crucial aspects for every company because its
can lead towards a positive growth for the company. If they are fully satisfied, they
can guide them to improve team effectiveness.
 Ongoing employee betterment: By the help of motivation, they can facilitate a
worker to reach its personal objectives. They can facilities their effort to formulate
plan in more efficient manner.
TASK 3
P3: a) Different types of team and its importance
Teamwork is an important part of a business; because it is known as combine action
of people those are working together in order to attain individual as well as group goals. It
means that people are work with proper coordination and cooperation by using their effective
skills to meet its set objectives (Chiang and Hsieh, 2012). The best part of them is that they
unite for the same cause or interest. In an organisation of BBC there are various teams. Some
of them are:
Functional team: It is group of people with having a functional expertise those are
working towards shared objectives. They are mostly traditional unite teams associated with
entire department or a part of it. In BBC they are picking up expertise from outsourced
providers. These results in more than 90% of the problems are answered and many of them
are still at hold.
Problem solving team: It is known as a group of people collected to work on a
project that consists of resolving one or more than one issues that are already been present or
to deal effectively with that issues which are arises in BBC.

Project team: These are concern with that team who belong to other group or
segment and are allotted to certain activities for the common project. It can be further be sub
divided as per the requirement of organisation.
Virtual team: They are related with that team which is working from different
location and communicated with the help of technology. Such as Email, fax and video calling
etc. In BBC they are outsourced their work at least 50% of role are operated outside London.
Important of team:
 It will develop faster communication and learning ability among each people so that
goals can be attain in more effective manner.
 It blends communication strength among workers and other member of a team.
 Development of trust within team members.
 Helps to promote large sense of ownership.
b) Effective team in BBC with using model
Effective team: It is known as that team which contribute their efforts for the benefits
of an organisation in order to fulfil its needs and predetermine objectives (Lee and et.al
2011). It develops by hard work, commitment towards organisation and lots of efforts.
Characteristics of Effective team:
 The main feature of effective team that it must have a collaborative climate under
which every individual can be work in appropriate manner.
 The team must have external support and motivation so that work can be
accomplished with the support of outside stakeholders.
 The team must follow certain principle of leadership that will give right direction to
them in attaining there aims and objectives.
 They do have unified commitment towards their goal so that every member should
follow the same path.
Ineffective team: Such types of team are known as unorganised group of people. They
do not have any aim and neither has to follow any direction towards their work. The

communication, assignment, delegation of power and other aspects are not obeyed by them.
There is no one up them to provide guidance to their skills and capabilities.
Tuckman’s model: According to this model the team formulate maturity and ability, develop
relationships and leader changes its leadership styles. They have provided various stages to
measure the performance of a team. Those are discussed underneath:
 Forming: Under this stage, high levels of dependencies on leader are there to provide
right guidance or direction to his team. Individual role and responsibilities are unclear.
In this leader need have answer various question related with his team performance
and their abilities.
 Storming: In this group, decision is not too easy. Team member are desperate for
position as they tried to establish himself in accordance to other team partner and to
those leader who receive many challenge from his teammates (Nahavandi and et.al
2013).
 Norming: Under this phase, every team member has clear aim and motive. By
making a perfect agreement by group major decision are taken.
 Performing: In this stage, team is more systematic and ware about their role that
what they are need to do and why they are doing so. They have shared vision and
always stand over the upcoming situation.
In context to BBC, the above theories are more effective because to make them unite
to their task. As, by using these theories they can for their team in best possible manner to
solve their organisational issues. It will help them to attain its objectives in more effective
manner. The performance of team can be improved with this theory which is more helpful
for BBC in order to meet its demand and future targets.
TASK 4
P4: a) Use of organisational theory to determine team performance
Path goal theory: It is based on particular leadership style or attitude that is best
suitable for employees and as per their work environment. It is used in order to attain
organisation objectives. The goal is to enhance employee motivation, their empowerment and
satisfaction so they become effective member of an organisation. It is based on theory of

expectancy under which an individual and group of people act in a common manner which is
based on the expectation that will help them to generate valuable outcome to individual as
well as to the individual. It is introduce by one of the great economists Martin Evans in 1970.
It is that process in which leaders has the option to choose particular behaviour that are best
applicable for an employees. It follows mainly few aspects:
 Identification of employees and basic characteristic related with environment.
 Selection of best leadership style
 Target on motivational aspects that will be helpful for employee’s profitability.
Path goal theory consists of various leadership styles such as:
 Supportive leadership: This is consists of enhancing the employee’s self-esteem and
make them more interesting towards their job.
 Directive leadership: It is used to determine which needs will be more effective
guidance for the employees to perform their work.
 Participative leadership: This style of leadership guide employees to advice both
needs and they expected to give equal to chance to use their skills.
 Achievement orientation: under this, high standards are presented and expected
towards employees.
By using this theory, BBC can plan their goals in more effective manner. There are
various leadership style which are explained under this project are appropriately suitable for
them (Nelson and Quick, 2013). Each style of leadership are presenting perfect outcome for
the company.
b): Barriers of effective team performance
A communication barrier is said to be important aspects that help employees from
attaining perfect understanding of communication between them. It will help them to share
messages and other information, ideas and thought to each level of the departments. It
consists of internal and external barriers that are available in an organisation. It affects the
performance of department and performance. Some of them are:
Poor communication: A perfect communication system can help an organisation to
manger their team in more effective manner towards its aim and objectives.

Unclear goals: These goals are used for a particular project. When those goals are not
presented in clear manner it will affect the productive and effectiveness of organisation
performance (Spector and Fox, 2010).
Lack of Management involvement: Because of less management support these barriers
can be arises.
Ego: Those members who are carrying such kind of attitude can affect the organisation in
attaining its aims.
Bad coordination: Another, barrier in team can be arises because of improper
coordination among each other.
CONCLUSION
From the above project report, it has been concluded that organisation behaviour is an
effective aspects that need to be analyse in proper manner so that long term goal can be
achieved. This project summarised with various information about child abuse situation in
BBC. For this various theories and approaches are explained under this project. Information
about leadership style and various communication barriers which are affecting the
performance of a team are discussed under this project.
