When a large number of individuals start a commercial activity with the aim of earning profit
this is known as an organization. In today's fast changing business environment it is very
necessary to manage all the activities of the enterprise. For this various tools and techniques can
be used by the managers. The team is more important for every organization because it
contributes a lot in the success of business entity. It is an effective process of organizing,
planning, leading and controlling of organizational activities in order to achieve its goals and
objectives in an appropriate manner. These processes of management assists in taking best
decision and resolve all issues in the firm. In an organization management is more important
because it is a vast creation of optimum uses of available resources in the business and the
individuals. The process of managing organization is the creative activity of getting a group of
people together in order to achieve common goals in appropriate time period. The Present report
is based on Tesco, this cited company is an international retail firm which provide grocery
products to its customers in order to achieve higher satisfaction by them. Various team
development theories are described in this essay.
TASK
Team is a group of people which perform task in same platform to achieve common goals
and objectives. In team different types of peoples are work together and perform their work with
more efficiency in order to increase productivity of the company. It is managers responsibility to
manage, motivate and coordinate whole team to achieve positive results by them. Basically team
is an effective process to collect various type of individuals to maintain the mutual
understanding at workplace so that they easily attain higher success in their task. To enhance the
performance of company and complete the given work team plays an important part because
without it company can not increase their productivity in effective manner. The main function of
team in an organization is to increase efficiency. For getting success unit work is more essential
for the company. Effective teamwork is important in every organization that defines best
outcomes which assist in making better use of available resources with the firm. Cited company
make effective team to generate new and innovative ideas, improve communication and also
helps to learn from other team members. Team work is important for Tesco because it provide

best opportunities to their employees to bond with each others and also improve relationship
among them effectively.

Increases productivity: Every organizations wants to increase their efficiency and productivity in
order to achieve competitive advantage. For this team is more important for Tesco because
group of people do research to identify customers needs and wants which enhance the overall
performance of company and also boost up their productivity level. The main target of team is to
increase company performance by performing all the task in effective manner so that they can
attain organisation goals.
Improves communication skills: For getting higher success effective communication is essentials
for the team members. It helps in developing communication skills of every team member so that
they can easily communicate with each other and can exchange their opinion and ideas. The
main advantage of team as well as group of people is that it enhance communication skills of
different individuals..

which arise at workplace. Skills and knowledge of people in a team is effective which assist in
solving problems in better manner.

manager in order to improve team performance and attain higher success at marketplace. There
are some important theories which assist in developing team in effective manner:
Tuckman's stages model: This theory explain ability and maturity of team development. It
include five important stage like forming, storming, norming and performing which assist in
developing the team as well as their member at workplace.
Forming: It is first stage of team development in order to manage all the team member and
achieve higher success. In this all members highly depend on leaders for direction because the
roles and responsibilities are unclear. According to this stage every team member are positive
and also polite. Leader prepare and define effective answers and question which related to team
purpose, and its objectives. They test and evaluate tolerance of team leaders. Leadership
strategies is more effective in this stage of team development because it assist in maintaining
coordination among members.
Storming: In second stage all the team members are engage in their work and also communicate
about structure of the specific group (Ens and et.al., 2012). Team members are move in storing
phase to start to define boundaries in this stage. It start in those place where conflicts and
problems are arise between team members because every people work in different style and way
so that leader face problems and become more frustrated. Team needs to focus of its goals and
also avoid all relationship and emotional issue which distracted people at workplace.
Norming: According to this stage consent of every team member is very much indispensable due
to their eminent role played in success of a group. One of major advantage of this phase is to
unity amongst unit members which is very much helpful in attaining their set goals in a given

time frame. The team communicate with other member to develop its working style effectively.
They develop the strong relationship among members and get positive success in effective
manner (Jackson, 2016).
Performing: According to this stage the team reaches this step to achieve team goals in
appropriate time period. The whole team aware about all the process that how to achieve positive
result. They also focus on overachieving goals so that they take best results. All team members
are effective work as a strong team and support each others to getting positive results. They also
can easily solve all the problems which create in team coordination. Every unit members are
highly motivates to achieve end goals and goals and objectives.
Adjourning: It is last stage of team development theory, when the task of team is completes the
team can be dissolved. All team members are left groups and focus on other works. In this step
the team breaking up and leader assist to members to do plan for their futures and define next
task in effective way.
All these stages are more important for the team development in order to maintain best quality of
the organization as well as team.
Advantage of Tuckman's stage model:
The important benefits of this theory is to provide effective level of guidance for team
development.
Effective use of available resources.
Build strong relationship and trust among team members.
Helps in evaluating critical situation and provide best solution to resolve obstacles.
Maintain better co-ordination within whole team.
Disadvantage of Tuckman theory:
Fixed time scale of every stage is not decided.
This model fails to calculate the contribution of an individual.
This model is suitable for only small groups.
In this it is unclear when a group move from one stage to another.
On other hand Kormanski and Mozenter stage of team develop is also a effective theory which
assist in enhance productivity of the team in appropriate manner (Lloyd and Whitehead, 2012).
In this theory there are some stages to evaluate overall performance of unit members and also
motivate to get positive end results:

Awareness: According to this stage every people knows each others they evaluate the goals and
commit themselves to the goals (Morgan, Pritchard and Pride, 2011). All the unit members
manage and accept to comes toghter and work for specific goals and also have appropriate
knowledge about all task which performing by the team members.
Conflict: According to this stage it define surface level when all team members are ware about
the task and goals then it arise questions and fine various solution. They face conflicts in the
process of interaction and get positive results about that.
Cooperation: In third stage of team development the team members are involves goals and
support each other to attain effective result in given time period.
Productivity: In this stage it depend on all the achievement and the team members feel proud to
their success and accomplishment of goals and objectives.
Separation: In this all the task and work done by team members. According to their goals and
outcomes are specific. All the team members are have to satisfied by working with each others
(Seebode, Jeanrenaud and Bessant, 2012). In this final stage it define closure of the team or task
which is performing by unit.
All these stages are effective and important to develop team in appropriate manner in order to
attain positive end results.
There are some advantage of disadvantage of this theory are as follows:
Advantage:
This model assist in improve team efficiency.
It provide effective learning in order to improve skills and communication of team.
Enhance the quality of team members and leaders.
This model helps in determining the strength or weakness of team.
Improve organizational as well as team productivity.
Disadvantage:
Increase conflicts among peoples at workplace.
Some time this model can not able to understanding about the work performance of the team
members.
Both theories is more important for development of the team but the more effective and best
theory is Tuckman theory which is taken by Tesco in order to maintain their team (Wood and
et.al., 2016). According to this model it assist in developing employees morale and maintain

coordination among team members. The main and important advantage of this theory is to
motivate unit members to achieve positive end results. It assist in improve employee skills and
ability of working performance at workplace.
