INTRODUCTION
In order to have better competitive advantages in current market scenario, it is essential for
individual to have continuous improvement in personal as well as professional skills. In other aspect, it
can also be stated that the personal and professional development program plays a critical aspect in
performance development (Lussier, 2012). If someone wants to grow and achieve success at both
personal and professional front, it is necessary that he or she must keep learning throughout the life.
Current learning will focus on various approaches of self managed learning and lifelong
learning that can enhance skills of individual. It will also provide learning regarding key elements of
personal and professional development plan in order to develop individual capabilities. Moreover, it
will also focus on different styles of communication that can be used at diverse levels within
organisation.
TASK 1
1.1 Self-managed learning and its different approaches
In order to have better career opportunities it is essential for individual to develop skills on
continuous basis with an assistance of self managed learning. Self managed learning provides number
of benefits to individual as well as organisation. In this support, I can amend my communication skills
through use of self managed learning. Improvement in communication skills will enhance my morale
which is beneficial to accomplish organisational goals in effective manner (Cunningham, 2010).
Social networking is considered as a most commonly used technique that facilitates in
continuous personal and professional development. In this, I can access to number of social media
portals to connect with my professional friends and attain information regarding various subjects. Face
book, You tube, Google, etc. are most commonly used sources so I can focus on these channels to
attain learning about different skills that can improve my career opportunities. Moreover, seminars and
conferences are also critical methods that provides better learning to an individual (Rarelin, 2008). I
can attend number of seminars, conferences and training programs in order to amend my skills. As I
am working in a hospitality industry so I can attend training sessions that are conducted by reputed
hospitality organisations and educational institutes. I can gather information about various services of
hospitality industry through these sources such as restaurant, front office, communication, etc
(Belcount, 2010).
1.2 Lifelong learning and personal and professional development
As per the structured study, it can be said that the life long learning is essential for every
individual and provides various beneficial opportunities to the individual. In this support, life long

learning procedure is method that motivates person to continue with learning process throughout the
life in order to attain better skills and knowledge. SWOT analysis and self reflective learning are the
best options to attain life long learning (Dale, 2009). As per my perception, SWOT analysis is tool that
provides emerging path top life long learning so that individual can improve personal and professional
development. In this, I can easily analyse my strength and weaknesses for further improvements. I can
also acquire information regarding opportunities that can provide me a competitive aspect to sustain in
the market. I can also understand the treat situation in proper manner so that better future can be
designed.
Other than this, with an assistance of self reflective learning I can also promote life long
learning aspects in appropriate manner. It will allow me to attain better information regarding
diversified capabilities and subjects that are essential for hospitality profession. In this, I can take part
in number of challenging assignments so that I can understand the significance of responsibilities
(Lussier, 2012). This will also facilitate me to attain better knowledge on diversified topics and thus
enhances his skills in various fields. In other aspect, it can be said that the with an assistance of self
reflective learning procedure being a restaurant manager I can gather information regarding various
strategies that can manage work force in appropriate manner. Self reflective and SWOT analysis are
beneficial to promote life long learning within individual and provide various advantages in context to
personal as well as professional aspects (Cunningham, 2010).
1.3 Benefits of self managed learning
It has been identified that there are number of advantages that an individual and organisation
can attain through use of self managed learning. In this support, it can be stated that with an assistance
of self managed learning I can improve my communication skills which will facilitate me to
communicate significant message with workers as well as clients (Rarelin, 2008). I can also enhance
my morale in order to accomplish tasks in appropriate manner and lead business to impressive level of
success. Improved level of motivation level is also beneficial for effective management of work
activities. I can also team work capabilities in most suitable manner by considering self managed
learning.
Other than this, self managed learning will also amend further skills of individual which is
beneficial to accomplish objectives in appropriate manner. Improved level of skills will also facilitate

Strength
In order to accomplish objectives of hospitality organisation, it is essential for individual to
have good communications skills. I have good communication skills that helps me to
communicate with individuals in appropriate manner. I am also capable to work in team which also boosts positive aspects within environment and
helps me to manage work in appropriate manner.
Weaknesses
It has been identified by me that I am not good at hospitality skills because I do not have
appropriate information about various subjects of hospitality industry. In order to operate
business suitably I must have capabilities to deal with huge amount of information
simultaneously. I also face issues regarding planning and organising skills which influence my overall work
performance. It creates barriers in set out short and long term goals which is not beneficial for
better accomplishment of organisational objectives.
Opportunities
I can focus on time management skills in order to manage hospitality operational activities in
appropriate manner. I can also attain better information regarding leadership skills so that workforce can be
managed in appropriate manner and lead business to impressive level of success.
Threats
High ratio of competition in hospitality sector can influence my overall development.
Rapid changes in work style of hospitality industry due to modifications in customers needs can
also influence my personal and professional development.

As per the above statements, it has been spotted that I am not good at planning and organising
skills. It means it is one of my critical need in order to meet standards of personal and professional
standards. Improper information about hospitality subjects and lack of managing activities are also
critical aspects that impacts my overall performance (Dale, 2009). It means I must focus on actions that
can overcome these aspects in order to succeed in both professional and personal life. Improvement in
these kinds of skills will facilitate me to provide better satisfaction to the customer's and create better

Other than this, advancement in managerial skills and time management capabilities are also
key needs that can enhance my career opportunities in diverse manner. With an assistance of time
management skills I can easily manage number of hospitality activities in effective manner and meet

Moreover, the effectiveness and sustainability aspects also need to taken into account to undertake
activities in appropriate manner.
In addition to this, it can be said that there are number of activities that need to be executed
according to development plan. Classification of activities can be as follows:
Work on department or institute teams or projects.
Improve relations with the people who are in jobs, career fields, and organization. I can also
contact various individuals that have interest in hospitality firm to gain career information.

As per the feedback and evaluation process, it can be stated that my learning skills has been
improved to great context. In the support this, it can be said that number of skills has advanced through
consideration of development plan such as communication skills, information about hospitality sector,
leadership skills, etc (Houghton, 2014). On the other side, it has also been witnessed by me that few of
skills still require few improvements to meet industrial standards in appropriate manner. In other
aspect, from the assessment of feedback process I have analysed that stress management and time
management skills requires development plan. In this respect, I can focus on time management
strategies to develop skills in appropriate manner. Number of alternative activities can also be taken
into account to have continuous development in stress management and time management activities.

As per above study, it can be concluded that the personal and professional development
activities are essential for continuous development in personal and professional development. It also
has been concluded that self managed learning is the key to success because it provides great assistance
