Introduction
Personal and professional development refers that to investment themselves in order
to manager any task in an effective manner and building competencies. It is essential for an
individual is to update their skills and knowledge over the time and meet current and future
requirements (Jimoyiannis, 2010). There are various tools and techniques can be used by
them to learn these things. The current report based on Hilton Hotel which an
accommodation service provider and operate its business in United Kingdom. The current
report will explain about various approaches in self-management learnings, lifelong learning
and how these learning can be acquired from others. This report also discussed about the
evaluation of current skill against the professional standards and corporate objectives.
Different types of time management strategies and other methods which help to meet
organizational goals and objectives in an effective manner.
Task 1
1.1 Different approaches in self-management learnings
Self-management learning is related with the way to handle its own learning and improving
skills and other aspects which help to perform a task. This is the responsibility of a business
organization is to conduct various learning program which enhanced self-management and
demonstrate their knowledge in to the next level (Wallace and Priestley, 2011). It helps to
determine various issued and overcome these issue in the near future. There are different
approaches can be used by an individual:
Seminars and conferences: In this approach where an individual attend seminars and
conferences for increase their knowledge and skill on a specific area and minimise their
weakness in an effective manner. for example, if a person learns more about leadership, this
is the responsibility of a cited firm is to conduct seminars on leadership and communicate
with them. it helps to solve their quarries and increase confidence level.
Social networking: There are various social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram,
You Tube, Twitter and so on. These tool can be used by an individual and communicate with
other people. Because, there are different types of people used these methods and share
information and knowledge on a specific area and meet its short and long term goals.

1.2 Lifetime learning in personal and professional development
It is significant for a person is to update its information and knowledge base which helps to
increase the understanding level and develop new professional skills. Therefore, it is the
responsibility of a person is to use different tools which enhanced their skills and confidence
which meet the future needs (Knight, Sperlinger and Maltby, 2010). Today, business
environment is too complex and change over a period of time. It requires that Hilton Hotel is
to make their employees and up to date regarding any information which increase customer
satisfaction level. There are following methods can be used by an individual:
Self-evaluation: This is one of the best approach for the lifelong learning in PPD. In this
approach a person required that to conduct its SWOT analyses and identify their strength and
weakness. It will increase strength and minimise weakness in the near future. For example, if
a person feels that time management is poor (Minott, 2010). They can make a plan and also
play time management activity which enhanced such skills.
Continues learning: A business organization is required to change its working style according
to time which create the need of new skills and knowledge. Therefore, an individual person
tries to learn new things and use new concept in working style which increase productivity
and performance.
1.3 Evaluation of self-managed learning
There are various benefits of SML for an individual and organization. Therefore, both are
tries to demonstrate their skills and make them more effective which meet future needs of the

organization and also develop personal skills. There are following advantage of SML for a
company:
Meet current and future needs: SML increase employee’s skills and knowledge through
provide training, seminars and conferences. It will develop new competencies which is too
significant for the future and meet these requirements in an effective manner.
Achieve organizational objectives: Each and every firm having certain goals and targets
which required to attain in a limited time period. A skilled and talented workforce always
provide competitive advantage for a business organization. With the help of SLM their staff
perform outstanding which is too essential for a company.

2.1 Analyses of own current skills and competencies against professional standards.
I believe that every person needs to build its own skills and competencies which make them
successful in the personal and professional level. It required different types of skills which
includes communication, leadership, presentation, knowledge about different area marketing,
finance, HR and so on. Apart from that there are also other skills such as decision making,
solving complex problem, time management etc. These all things I required to learn today
which help me in the near future. These are:
Communication skills: I am confident that to easily interact with people at personal and
professional settings. As a manager in the Hotel, this is my responsibility and opportunity to
meet new people and tries to solve their issues in an effective manner. On the other hand, I
am facing issue in time management which make me ineffective at and create pressure on me
for perform a task in a limited time frame. Therefore, I need to enhanced these skills and
meet future needs which is too significant for me (Beach, 2012).

2.2 Own development need and activities to meet them.
As I am excellent communicator which is required a hotel manager post in the cited firm. But
I need more skills which help me to face new challenges in the near future. For this, I
required to evaluate my own skills and capabilities and learn new approaches. For example,
as a manager meeting new and different people required more languages. Therefore, I need to
learn various languages especially German, Spanish and French. It will help me to
communicate outside customer which belongs to different countries and understand their
current and future demand in an appropriate manner. For these, I will plan to visit different
countries for learning and explore my language for the future. On the other hand, I am facing
various issues in the leadership and management (Eros, 2011). Because, I need an effective
leadership quality which can be acquired from attending seminars and conferences. It will
help me to manage my work and motivate staff for attaining organizational goals and targets.
Time management another major problem for me to perform my task within a time limit.
Therefore, I need to improve time management by using various apaches and make me more
effective performer in the near future.
2.3 Determine opportunities to meet current and future requirements
Every individual has unique competencies which can be gained from different tools and
methods. As a manger of cited organization I need to build more skills and capabilities to
perform my task and meet future challenges in an effective manner. In the hotel sector, there
are different types of person are belonging from different culture which having large
influenced on business (Patrick, Elliot and McPhee, 2010). Therefore, this is my
responsibility to know these culture and languages and their attitudes regarding their
changing demands. If a am able to understand these things a will perform extremely well in
the near future. Apart from that, working in hotel industry one of the competitive task which
needs to perform outstanding as compare to its rival frim in the market. Therefore, as a
manager I will try to motivate my staff, provide training on regular basis to meet
organizational goals and target in an effective manner.
Today, the role of innovation and technology is too significant in each and every business.
therefore, this is my role to learn that how to use these technologies in an effective manner.
for example, there are various social media tools like Facebook, Instagram, You Tube and so
on. These methods can be used to promote firm product in a cost effective manner. These all
approaches help to maintain a good relationship between customer and business which
increase their satisfaction level.

PPD is a systematic process of building new approaches to acquired new knowledge in order
to attain present and upcoming needs. In this stage, first I required to conduct me SWOT
analyses which help to identify my strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. For
example, through such evaluation I determine that my presentation and time management
skills not up to the mark (Holmes, Signer and MacLeod, 2010). Therefore, I will design and
develop a plan which minimise these issue in the near future. Once these stage is completed I
will examine my achieved skills with past performance and make decision accordingly.

Creating a PPD plan is one of the complex task but implementing such plan more
complicated. It needs to more concentrate on implementation rather than development. In
PPD plan I needs to divide overall proposed program in to small task and arrange resources

for them. for example, I need to improve communication and time management at the
professional settings. For this, I required that to attend seminars which help to learn the

communication in all three dimension speaking, writing and listening. My speaking skills is
excellent, on the other hand writing and listening skills not up to the mark. therefore, my
major task is to enhanced these things. For technological aspects, I will need to update all
information regarding innovation and acquire knowledge how to use these technologies for
attaining organizational goals (Jaipal and Figg, 2011). For this, I will use social media tools
and get the information with IT experts. For improving time management, I will delegate task
to different functional department such as finance, HR, customer service etc. The best
approach for meet deadlines to divide task in to small activities and assign resources for each
task.
3.3 Own learnings against organizational aims and objectives
It is essential for me that to review skills and capabilities on regular basis and identify
loopholes. So that, I will try to improve such aspects in order to meet current and future
needs. I am good tom perform my work but need for further improvement. I meet the
communication standards which needed at the corporate level. But when I evaluate all aspects
I feel that I lack in various aspect’s specially in the communication, time management,
learning new languages and leadership qualities. For communication, it will take more time

Because such language is more popular after English. There are two types of improvement
which I need to concentrate related with academics and personal and professional
development. I will focus on academics and enhanced these things in an effective manner.

to face various issues and make an effective solution for such problem. For example, if there

attain both personal and organizational goals and targets in an effective manner. Continues
learning is too significant for every person is to meet present and future challenges. In today

For example, I am working in hotel industry which needs various information regarding
marker and customer. it is essential for me is to update all information regarding customer
choice, current and future market trends and other data. It will help me making decision more
effective and meet firm target in timely manner.

4.1 Solution for work based problem
It is significant for a business organization is to identify various issues and provide an
appropriate solution for them. As per the given case, the major problem is related with the
poor communication system. I lead to increase misunderstanding, lack of coordination and
other aspects. Therefore, it is the responsibility of cited firm is to design and develop an
appropriate communication system (Forte and Flores, 2014). IT department is required to use
integrated system which interlinked all department of the company. It will increase
interaction level between top management and lower staff and create a harmonious relation
with them. apart from that, it provides a facility where staff can share various data and
information with each other. It will increase decision making process and enhanced
productivity and performance in an effective manner. These facilities can be including email.
Live chat, video conferencing and so on. These all platform can save time and money of the
company.

Learning is related to acquiring new things and improving existing skills which development
personal and professional approaches. These styles can be:
Verbal learning: This type of learning is related with the use of words, sound speeches and
writing. Business organization can be used such approaches to provide training to its staff.
Visual learning: There are various people who prefer picture, images and other symbol to
provide relevant information to its employees in an effective manner (Taylor and et. al.,
2011).
Aural learning: It involves music, sound or any other audio platform which can be used by an
individual to provide various information.
Physical learning: There are various information which can be provided by the use of hand,
body and gestures in an appropriate manner.
Social learning: Business organization can be used various approaches where they provide

It is essential for an individual to manage their work within a time limit. Therefore, business
corporation is tries to use various tactics and plan in order to complete their task in a limited
time frame (Jimoyiannis, 2010). These strategies can be:
Task by task: This is one of the best strategy where an individual required that to complete
one task and then start another task. If they start multitasking it will lead to increase burden
which is not good for them.
Minimise waste of time: In this approach individual can overcome other activities which
consume more time and concentrate on urgent task.
Prioritise: This is another strategy where an individual required that to select those work
which need to compete on priority. With the help of such tactics time will be manage in an
