INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a continuous process of learning that not only
assists individuals in their development but also, help in bringing efficiency in the firm (Ahmed
and Ward, 2016). PPD involves the process of self-assessment and discovery where individuals
evaluate their own potential and skills with developing a plan so that improvement and his
desired goals along with carrier achievements can be attained. In the current report, Tesco has
been taken into consideration which is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise
retailer operating in more than 13 countries with more than 470,000 employees. The report will
discuss different ways through which one can evaluate own skills and will come up with
personal and professional development plan that will aid in the development of an individual.
Along with this, various approaches to self-managed learning and lifelong learning will also be
discussed.
TASK 1
1.1 Approaches of self-managed learning and different learning style.
Self-managed learning is a way through which a person enhance its knowledge on its
own. It can be acquired by observing current business environment and analysing the various
problems a business is going through. There are many approaches of self-managed learning such
as:
Seminars and conferences:
Seminars and conferences are the best ways through which a person can learn and
acquire skill on its own. Through seminar, a person can learn from the views and experience of
others. This helps them in their development of skills and personality, listening to the views of
many people assist them to come up with new things (Chien and et.al., 2015). This also helps to
enhance their confidence and interpersonal skill so that they can carry out conversation
efficiently.
Social Networks:
The local or virtual community like Twitter, Facebook etc., is another way of self-
managed learning. Through this, an individual can share his/her ideas and chat with other people.
This helps them in improving their skills and way of communication along with their
personality.

VAK learning style presents three best ways through which a person can acquire learning. Visual: In this, person can get better understanding by looking at picture, graph, diagram,
presentation, etc. Auditory: This style focuses more on listening and stating that person can also learn by
listening to others, audios, etc. (Driessen and van Tartwijk 2013)
Kinaesthetic: It includes physical experience where people learn by touching and holding
things. VAK learning style of learning is effective as it provides three mediums through
which a person can learn to use images and diagram. This not only helps in the keeping
the interest of learners but also, provides better understanding.
Other than this, Honey and Mumford model of learning style can also help person in its
development. This model observes different types of people and their personality. On the basis
of this, they come up with different learning styles. Mumford give four learning style that is

Pragmatists
Theorist
