INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a set of activities that are generally
implemented and followed by the individuals working in the enterprise. This helps them to
promote their personal level of abilities and skills present in them which eventually assist the
management in achieving greater form of results. It is necessary that personnel should formulate
and implement a particular plan of development in order to improve the present form of qualities
and attributes for executing the entire form of functions and operations (Reinholz, 2015). In that
regard, the report is furnishing information about the importance, construction and implication of
personal professional plan in context of an individual employed in Travellodge Hotel.

1.1 Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning
Self managed learning can be define as the procedure through which one can make or
handle their own decisions or working instead of being managed by their supervisors. For being
self-managed an individual must have good soft skills. Self-managed learning programmes can
be conducted by the organizations to for development of staff in particular way. These
programmes are framed in such a that one can how to manage and lead oneself. There are
various approaches that expounds self-managed learning. They are stated below.
 Seminars and conferences:Seminar and conferences are consider as the best way to
learning. When people attend seminars and conferences they interact with each other
which leads to sharing ideas and experiences. It also aids to revamp their skills and
personality by attending seminars and conferences (Lewis, 2004).
 Social networks: This is also a good way of self-managed learning approach as it helps to
get socialize. There are different social networking site like Twitter, Facebook, G mail
and Yahoo. Now a days, people use these sites to chat with others that helps in sharing
ideas and make them interactive.
 Internet:In today era internet has become the most important source of communication,
surfing etc. There are various articles present over internet which are read by people. In
turns, that upgrade their level of knowledge and make them updated (Hughes and
Youngson, 2009).

Travelodge hotel provides hospitality services to its customers. To remain competitive in this
field of service, we need to become dynamic and get updated with the changes. For this we use
seminars and internet, because it helps our employees to get in touch with latest ideas and
requirements.
1.2 propose ways in which lifelong learning is personal and professional
Lifelong learning is an on going process to learn personally that grants to the professional
context. One can improve his/her lifelong learning by evaluating strengths, weaknesses,
opportunity and threats. Travelodge provides kind of services that requires changes time to time.
We want our staff to become dynamic and can cope up with changes. To become dynamic it is
very important to keep learning. Our management team encourages employees to lifelong
learning for their betterment. Being a manager I support those employees who wish to study
further. My organization provide financial support to employees for their further studies. In
turns, it helps in encouraging lifelong learning. To motive and make employees learn the things
we organize workshops for them which helps to set goals in future. Even, I requested to senior
authorities to open a library by which employees can take benefits and learn things without any
problems. We allow them extra time to study in the organization apart from work. It uplifts their
trust towards the organization and make them integrated towards work.
They feel overwhelmed by working with our company. To encourage their interest we
conduct seminars and conferences, so that it helps an employee to get information and make
interactive. Our organization always support employees for ongoing learning so that they feel
motivated and interested towards learning (McLeod, John and Julia, 2014). Even our company
motivates those employees too who has less interest in learning. By encouraging continuous
learning, leads to improve their performance as well as company's performance. As employees
are major responsible for the success of an organization.
1.3 Evaluate the benefits of self-management learning to the individual and organizations
Self-managed learning is related with the people to take advantage of their own learning
by them self. Being a manager of travelodge, I also use self-managed learning process. It helped
me a lot in different grounds in the organization. As a manager, I always need to work with a
team and I need to walk by taking everyone together. Self-managed learning helped me to
expand may knowledge and share with team members. It helped me to form strategies and plans
in future for the success of my organization. Being a manager of a hotel, I have to deal with

different level of employees. If any of the staff member has a problem I make them feel trusted
so that they can come and share problems with me. Even, I always get in touch with my clients
and customers which leads to gain existing customers as well as new once.
Self-manage learning not only benefited me but also my organization. An organization is
made up of employees, if an individual is knowledges with these learning would directly benefit
the organization too. For example, my problem solving skills can effectively assist my
subordinates (Dowson, 2015). On the other hand, my decision making skill can help my
organization in an effective way. I gave innovative ideas to attract customers and clients. My
good decision making skill helped my company to fulfil its objectives and goals. Being a
manager, I supervise against unethical practices in the organization. Even I motivate my
subordinates for the betterment and improvement of work.

2.1 Evaluate your own current skills and competencies against professional standard
I have done Swot analysis to make evaluation of my own current skills. According to this
evaluation strengths, weakness,opportunity and threats are:
 Strengths -Good at managing the team, good at decision making, problem solver as well
as motivator. These skills helped the organization to remain competitive in the global
market.
 Weakness- Communication skills, I am good at non verbal communication but not that
good at verbal communication. Sometimes, I may not able to interact with customers that
leads to affect the brand value of hotel. For the goodness of organization I need to
improve this skill as it also affect my interpersonal skills.
 Opportunity- As a hotel manager of travelodge, I am good at making strategies that help
to attain the objectives of my hotel. My influential quality help my hotel to attract
maximum number of customers. My qualities can help the organization in the best
possible way. At the time of recruitment we heir people with good technical and
advanced knowledge that aids the organization to become advance and competitive with
other hotels (Drori, Meyer and Hwang, 2006).
 Threats- Bad communication skill can affect the profitability of the organization. To
attract the customer it is necessary to have good influential skill. Being a manager of

hotel it is important to interact with customers. This can be a threat for the organization.
With the help of this evaluation I came to know where I am and where I need to be. I can
take advantage of my strength for strengthening the business and develop organizational
goals and strategies for achieving them.
2.2 Identify your own development needs and activities required to meet them
Being the employee of a hotel, it is important an employee to be communicative, good at
time management, I feel these are my weakness. To overcome these weaknesses I have joined
some training sessions that helps me to make good interaction with customers. I feel
communication problem, to improve this problem I attend session that improve my current
position. To improve my current position I have adopted some personal strategies like I have
started reading more books and newspaper that expands my knowledge and other skills that are
important for the success of organization. There are also some ways to improve my weaknesses
are:
Internet
Internet is the best way to gain knowledge about the world. One can use it in the best and
effective way. On ground of personal development, it helps to improve skills and learn things by
own. I can find many things on internet regarding time management. By following these
practices I can improve it (Dougherty, Cheung and Florea, 2008).
Seminar
This is another way of learning things in the best possible way. By attending seminars one can
interact with other people that helps in gaining knowledge. Interaction is the best way of sharing
ideas with others.
Mentoring
Mentoring can be defined as the process of gaining knowledge or learning something
under the guidance of a mentor. With the help of mentoring an individual can improve his/her
skills and knowledge.
By adopting all these practices I can improve my current skills and can perform well in future. In
turns, the goals of the organization would easily achieved.
2.3 Identify development opportunities to meet your current and future defined needs
I evaluate that I can do whatever it needs at my current level. I am quick at learning
things than others. Still I feel like I need to learn more skills like personal development, proper

planning, making good relations with customers and clients. Personal development helps in
achieving goals and targets. Where as, making good relations will achieve organizational targets.
On the ground of future need it is very important to success over each and every skills that I am
bad at. Specially the problem regarding time management and balancing the personal and
professional life. Even I face problem regarding presentation that also I need to improve. To
overcome problem regarding time management I would keep a diary to and write down day to
day activities. I would prioritize my task whichever is needed first. As I face problem regarding
balancing the personal and professional life, to overcome these issues I will do my work in office
only instead at completing at home. At present I work as a manager for future defined needs I
need to overcome all these lacking skills. For example, if I promote and become senior manager
then I need to be more communicative and interactive. Even I need to focus on all those skills
that would required that time.

3.1 The processes and activities required to implement the development plan
There is a set of activities which needs to be formulated and developed in order to
improve my own ability to handle the business operations and functions effectively so that I can
attain better forms of results and overall achievements. In that context, being as a manager at
Travellodge hotel, I need to specify the structure of processes and activities that are useful in
improving my present level of skills, capabilities and personalities (Warschauer, 2002).
Moreover, following are the aspects for implementing the activities and processes defined in the
development plan: Coaching classes – I would start taking coaching classes of technical and interaction in
order top develop my communication and technological skills. The duration of the
coaching classes would be as specified in the development plan. In this respect, I would
assess the best institute that is offering better and effective teaching about the practical
and theoretical understanding of the both the skills. Articles and blogs – It would be beneficial for me to read and attain information from
articles and blogs over internet, newspapers, magazines, etc. As they provide great
sources for evaluating and addressing effective decisions that were taken by other leaders
and managers. In addition to this, this would help in developing my decision making,
presenting, planning and organising skills which is highly required by me to accomplish
the business task.
 Learning programs – Participating in the learning programs would help me in improving
my present set of managerial skills and overall capabilities of executing the business

operations and functions. The results of attending learning programs would highly help
me in promoting my leading abilities (Cooke, 2012).
3.2 implemented development plan
The implementation of plan is necessary to evaluate the results between developed plan
and implementation. Being a manger at travelodge hotel, I need to evaluate the plan and
evaluation does and do not I have implemented the plan. The motive of implementation of
development plan is to measure the difference between actuals and set standards. Following are
the activities that would enlighten the usefulness of implementation and process of activities.
They are stated below:
 Coaching classes- To conduct coaching classes I consult with the person who is good at
technical knowledge. So that he can make me learn the required technical knowledge.
The duration of classes is 3 months, in this duration the technician would provide
technical as well as theoretical knowledge. To learn managerial techniques I consult to
the person has knowledge regarding managerial theories.
 Articles and blogs- To conduct this activity I read various articles and blogs over internet
and magazines. It helped me to attain good amount of knowledge to enhance skills and
ideas. It helped me in decision making, presenting, planning and organizing skills. It has
broaden the knowledge for innovative ideas. It helped in improving the capabilities and
skills.
 Learning programmes- I have conducted the learning programmes by consulting good
speakers and professionals. My participation in learning programmes helped me to
improve my skills. It also helped me in taking business decisions as well as to perform
operations. After attending these programmes I find improvement in my skills.
3.3 Reflect critically on your own learning against original aim and objectives set in
development plan
Being a manager at travelodge for the successful operations of organizations, I have
prepared a development plan on the basis of learning objective, current proficiency, target
proficiency etc. In the next step I have implemented the development plan. According to this
plan there are various skills have taken under like communication skills, technical skills,
leadership skills, presentation skills etc. I have analysed the skills on basis of current and
targeted . Currently this is poor which shows inability to interact with others. To overcome this

skill I have attend communication classes to develop practical knowledge in the period of 3
months. Technical skill and leadership skill have improved by taking computer training and
participating in leadership programmes. Where as presentation skills and planning and
organizing is still poor. For betterment of organization it is necessary to improve all these skills.
Specially communication skill and presentation skill because being a manager at travelodge that
provides hospitality services where communication and presentation is must.
Presentation skills can be improved by taking demonstration and watching the
presentations of various presenters. The conclusion of this plan is that the difference of
developed plan and implemented plan. The result is that some skills has improved and some are
still needed to improve. Because being a manager it is crucial to overcome those qualities that
are required (Cox and et. Al, 2007). The success of travelodge is depends on effective decision
making. This would only come after improving required skills and qualities. The motive of
implementing the plan is to fill the gap between actual and set standards. If any difference found
then it would be removed as soon as possible.
