INTRODUCTION Talking about the human resource management, it is one of the strategic as well ascoherent approach to the management of the most valued asset of the firm i.e. the people whoare working there individually and collectively. They all are contributing towards theattainment of the ultimate goals of the business. Varieties of activities are being included inthe HRM function among which the most important is determining the needs of staffing andhiring employees to fill these needs. Thus, the main aim of the human resource managementis to support the firm in meeting out its objectives by attracting, maintaining and managingthe workers effectively (Buller and McEvoy, 2012). The current study also deals withunderstanding the major principles of HRM by considering the case of Chocolate presenceand Microsoft. The report will be divided into two section wherein the firm part will dealwith the scenario of the former company which is engaged into the business of tailored madechocolate all across UK. As a human resource manager of the company, different recruitmentand selection approaches and the main purpose of HR function will be examined effectively.The second section of the report will focus on Microsoft and its HRM practice. Importance ofemployee relation and employee legislation will also be evaluated in the study. PART – 1 (CHOCOLATE PRESENCE)TASK – 1Purpose of the HR function and its significance to Chocolate presence The human resource management within Chocolate presence has many purposes.Among them the most vital is related with the development and management of the valuableasset of the company i.e. its people. HR function makes efforts to understand the need, wantsas well as demands of its workforce and make them satisfy so that they can work effectively.Further, the HRM function also aims to train and develop its workers and supports in utilizingthe available resources within the firm optimally (Buyens, 2011). Their main aim is to makeimprovement in the existing skill level and abilities of the employees by maintainingeffective relationship between all. They create plans, approaches and strategies for hiring,recruiting, managing and maintaining the workers within Chocolate presence.Furthermore, the HR function plays the role of a backbone for the company. For anykind of a business, to achieve objectives and goals they need to plan their resources and thekey resource for them is people. Some of the most crucial function of HRM and itsimportance to the firm are being defined underneath: 1

Recruitment & selection – This is being regarded as vital function as it helps thechocolate presence to have effective people on board. Various approaches are beingused by the firm for recruiting, hiring and selecting the appropriate candidate for thevacant job position such as interview and assessment tests (Wheatley, 2010).HR planning – This function supports in estimating about the demand and supply ofhuman resource within the company in future times. With this function in place,arrangement for the candidates are being made in advance so that operations and tasksare not effected severely and organization get right people at the right time and place. Compensation & benefits – Compensation as well as benefits are being offered to thepeople within the company for motivating them to work hard. The manager within theChocolate presence makes sure that each and every worker are given some or theother benefits so that he or she can work with their maximum potential. Training and development – This function also plays a crucial role in the firm asthrough this function, existing skills level, capabilities and competencies of theworkers are increased. The areas that needs to be developed and enhanced areidentified by this function of HRM and training events are planned accordingly tomeet out those needs (Gilbert, De Winne and Sels, 2011). Performance management – performance management is very important function as ithelps in measuring the level of performance of the workers and offers rewards basedon the evaluation. Workers with higher level of performance are recognized andoffered several rewards that motivates them to achieve higher benchmark. Thisfunction also helps chocolate presence to determine the deviation in the performanceand helps the managers to take corrective actions at right time. Current issues in Chocolate Presence At present, the company is facing several issues in its human resource management.The function is not efficient enough to manage high level of employee turnover within thefirm. Further, the recruitment and selection methods of the company are not acceptable(Lussier and Hendon, 2013). The approaches related to assessment tests are not adequate andthus, issues pertaining to fairness as well as biasness is taking place in chocolate presence ona continuous basis.
