INTRODUCTION
Professional development indicates to the constant activity of learning and obtaining new
competencies for performing the task explicitly or perfectly by formal training activities or
analysing the behaviour of other employees. This written document is supported to Marriott
International Inc. is an American multinational diversified organisation (Barone, Vercio and
Jirasevijinda, 2019). The company was incorporated in 1927 and is headquartered in Maryland,
US. In this following project report will discuss about analysis of benefits of on-going
professional development and the skills or qualities needed for a specific job role. The document
will also determine the importance of personal skill assessment and different approaches or
concepts of learning and personal and professional development.

P1. Benefits of on-going and constant professional development for different stakeholders
The activity of on-going professional development indicates to documenting each
competency which has been obtained by a worker for developing future employability and
offering advantages to each stakeholder. There are several benefits can be offered by ongoing
professional development at Marriott Hotel to diverse stakeholders in the company and the
description of them as under:

Competitive benefits- In Marriott, making enlargement and improvement in skills and
knowledge of employees is one of the main source to gain competitive benefit and use or
implement each resource of the enterprise in effective manner.
Employee engagement- On-going professional development needs implementation of
different training and development sessions at Marriott which effectively maximises the
employees’ engagement within the firm that is advantageous by the administration.

Motivation- There are several kind of efforts made by a company to make development in
the skills of workforce that assist in encouraging workers and provides them a sense of
belongingness (Schmidt and McArthur, 2018). For example, in Marriott, activity of professional
development of sales manager can provide outcomes in to a favourable change in their behaviour
which also assists in offering quality and better services to their target audiences or guests.

Job satisfaction- Improvement of competencies and knowledge is crucial for
accomplishment of task objective in term of better effectiveness and productivity degree that

(Lateef, 2018). It also fosters a favourable workplace which is essential aspect for employee jib

national demands and a highly skilled and trained workforce is capable to fulfil the needs and
necessities of visitors or travellers that maximises the tourism process within nation and increase
the generation of revenue from hospitality sector the national authority of the country (Day,
2018).

Various professional skills and competencies are expected by the management of Marriott
International Inc. for the job-role of Sales Manager in the company which are being described as
follows:
Interpersonal Skills: Strong people skills and a good communication skills is one of the
most essential skills required for the job role of Sales Manager by the management of Marriott
International Hotels. Communication skills are imperative for the sales manager to motivate the
employees for working at their maximum potential and productivity levels for accomplishing the
objectives of the company ( Borg and Johnston, 2013). Interpersonal skills also helps the sales
manager to train and develop the employees and prepare an effective sales pitch which can helps
in maximisation of revenue for the management of Marriott International Hotels.

Team development Skills: Sales manager at Marriott International Hotels is expected to
lead and develop a team of employee responsible for managing and monitoring the sales of the
company and increasing the revenue of the company. Hence, it is important for the sales
manager to have basic knowledge of various stages of team development and building such as
forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning and he should be aware about his
responsibilities and role at each stage of team development process (Hasson, 2012).
Technical Skills: Technological skills and use of various software such as MS Office is
an essential skill and knowledge for the job-role of Sales Manager desirable by the management
of Marriott International Hotels. Sales manager of the company is expected to prepare various
reports and provide vital information to the management which requires a substantial use of these
software (Plank and et. al., 2018). With the help of having an intermediate level of computer
knowledge, reporting and communicating becomes an easier job for sales manager.
Analysis Skills: A sales manager should be able to determine and analyse various
situations and arrive at a conclusion for managing and monitoring the sales of a company over a
period of time. For example, analytical ability of a sales manager is important to look and
interpret beyond the normal figures presented in the sales graph and consider the changes in
business environment and the current market situation.
Market Research Skills: One of the foremost responsibility of a sales manager includes
conducting effective market research to identify and determine the needs and requirements of the
customer which are not being met. Hence, it is important for the sales manager of Marriott
Hotels International to have research skills which can be used to determine areas of marketing
strategy which needs improvement and make significant changes to the products and services
being offered. Technology also plays an important role in development of market research skills
such as use of Google Forms etcetera.
Creative-thinking: Ability to think in a creative and innovative manner to offer products
and services which differentiate an organisation from its competitors is an important skill
required by the management of Marriott International Hotels for the job-role of sales manager.
Having creative skills helps the sales manager to determine the solutions to a problem and
innovate the current sales strategy of the company for maximisation of revenue and profits

Learning Approaches:
This approach utilise for understanding the procedure of learning within an individual which
varies from person to person. There are mainly three type of learning approaches that can be use
by individual for personal and professional development. Explanation of these are as follows :-
Behaviourist approach: It depends on the idea which includes students getting
information by reacting to a type of improvement (Manolis and et. al., 2013). It tends to
be utilized for proficient improvement in setting of Marriott Hotel where mentor gives
dull errand condition and criticisms for encouraging the way toward learning.
Cognitive approach: This methodology depends on mental application to comprehend
and hold the ideas and data for getting more information which can be successfully
applied with regards to cordiality industry by clarifying the idea of consumer loyalty.
Humanist approach: It depends on clarification of individual encounters which are basic
for the way toward learning and improvement (Moon, 2013). For instance, a specific
involvement in a client who was frustrated may shape the premise of future learning and
instructing about how to react adequately in such circumstances with clients.
Development Options:
Formal training – For advancement of aptitudes and characteristics for the activity job of
