INTRODUCTION Professional identity is defined as the description of individuals in a professional context. It can also be described as the set of values and meanings that an individual perceives within. An individuals identity defines the description same as professional identity represents a person's job or in which work they are indulge for earnings. In this assignment we have chosen Whitbread Plc , a British multinational hotel and restaurant company. This hotel was founded by Samuel Whitbread in 1742(Broadhead, 2017). its headquarters are located in Houghton Regis, England, UK. In this assignment the ongoing competencies and skills of an employee and manager is defined to operate the functions of the hotel effectively and effectively. TASK1 P1 Importance of ongoing professional development for different stakeholders Whitbread plc, a British multinational hotel and restaurant company. The companies headquarters are in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire UK. The largest division of this hotel is Premier Inn, biggest hotel brand in UK with over 785 hotels and 72,000 rooms. Until January 2019, the costa coffee was owned by the premier inn but later on sold to coco-cola company. The number of employees in the hotel is 50,000 with the total revenue of 436.4 million. Whitbread is listed on the London stock exchange and is famous for its luxurious services. Ongoing professional development is defined as the process of developing the skills through interactions and active participations made by the learners in different fields. It helps the learner to develop the capabilities and(Bukor, 2015)skills through accepting the learning methods. The OPD plays an vital role in setting the long term and short term goals, it helps to retain a consistent set of knowledge andkeep the qualifications up to date. The ongoing professional development plays an important role for Whitbread's stakeholders such as the customers, shareholders, employer and employees of the company to keep them updated with knowledge. Benefits ofOngoing development for employer:The employer of Whitbread hotel will be benefited with the skilled workforce by the continuous training and development programmes. The employees are trained which helps them to increase their capabilities and knowledge enhancement.
The training and development process increases the organizational brand image by the highly skilled and motivated staff. The business's reputation is enhanced by this development programme among the customers and clients(Cruess, Cruess and Steinert, 2016) BenefitsofOngoingdevelopmentforemployee:Thisprocessishelpfulforthe employees because by this they enhances their capabilities and skills. They improves their unskilled capabilities by this programme. The employees of the hotel feel motivated by the continuous development programme. The structure of OPD is consist of online and offline training, workshops, group events, seminars etc. It raise the ability to learn regular and promotes the independence by self engagement activities. The training and development programmes adds the experience and value knowledge in the CVs of employees. P2 Skills and competencies expected by professional employer The skills and competencies are very important for the employees and manager to operate the activities properly and systematically within an organization. Without the proper knowledge Whitbread can lack behind in the competitive world. An employer expect good skills and competencies from a general manager such as there are two types of skills which should be in the employees are explained below: Skills:The ability to do something well, Skills are divided into two parts soft skills and hardskills.Softskillsaretheabilitieswhichareinbuildinanindividualasinthe communication skills, flexibility, team work, time management etc. However hard skills are accumulated with the help of books and practical knowledge as accounting, typing techniques, machine operations, programming languages, software knowledge and degrees, apprenticeship, accounting. The employer of Whitbread hotel expect such as communication skills:Thisskill helps the general manager of Whitbread hotel in maintaining and coordinating the employees and customers well through communication and assist the employees for teamwork by proper communication abilities(Cruess and et. al.2015) Self confidence:The confidence of general manager is determined by the employer because it is a key factor for the success of hotel.
