INTRODUCTION
Professional development is defined as the process of enhancing the capabilities and
existing skills of employees by providing them required training and education for making more
competent. The present project report is about the Hilton Hotel which is a global chain offering
full hospitality services to the customers. The report will cover benefits of ongoing professional
development for different stakeholders, expectations of employers relating to skills and
competencies, assessment of own skills and preparation of professional development plan.
LO 1
P 1. Benefits of on going professional development
Every organisation desires of having a skilled and talented workforce which is capable of
meeting the demands of the business environment, for which company provides various
development opportunities to its staff to become more efficient. On going professional
development various benefits to different stakeholders such as :
Benefits to Hilton :
Increase in the overall productivity of Hotel.
Encourages work engagement and boosts employee satisfaction
Development of competitive advantage Quality services are delivered to customers that leads to customer satisfaction
Benefits to Employees :
Improvement in the existing skills and capabilities of staff.
Opportunity for growing and developing themselves (What are the benefits of CPD,
2019).
Career advancement and progression
On going professional development makes the employees to be more adaptive to accept
the business dynamics.

Hilton Group of Hotel, being a global brand it wishes to have the most able and
competent workforce which can add to the value of the organization.
For instance, for the job of manager in Hilton Hotel, the hospitality firm precisely look
for the following skills and capabilities :

Leadership skills
Good at planning and managing the routine operations in the Hotel
Proficient in working on the digital technologies and MIS
Good problem solving skills (Cruess and Cruess, 2018)

Likewise, for a job role of waiter, the Hilton hotel expects the following capabilities and skills :
Great at communicating with the customers.
Efficient in managing the orders and delivering the food at right tables

Ability of working quickly
To be polite and helpful
Being patient while dealing with the guests and their complaints
Shows a behaviour of adapting to the business changes and are flexible for working in
different shifts.
For becoming a manager in the Hilton hotel, I possess great communication skills, good
at leading and influencing people around me. Also, I am eager to learn new things which allows
to accept the challenges and become more adaptive to the situation. Thus, these are some of my
skills which could increase my probability of being placed in the company.

Various theories are there through which people can indulge into personal and
professional development process. These are as follows :
VAK learning style :
VAK is an abbreviation for Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic. It is a simple learning
model which primarily uses the three basic sensory methods for receiving the information. This
is done to determine the best & dominating sensor of the person. The preferred style of receiving
information provides the most appropriate way of learning new things and knowledge.

It is a learning process and social behaviour theory which is concerned with the learning
and acquiring of new knowledge by observing other people and imitating their behaviours.
Social learning theory stipulates that it is a cognitive process. People can learning things from
other just by observing them which could help them in the professional development (Tan and
et.al., 2017).
Operant learning :
It is a style of learning in which new information is gained by the way of punishment and
rewards for the behaviour. This method of learning establishes a relationship between the
behaviour and the outcomes of the behaviours (Wald, 2015).
For the purpose of developing my weaknesses such as lack of time management and
problem solving skills into my strengths, my preferred learning style will be a mixture of social
learning and VAK learning style. I will develop my skills by observing others and through
auditory senses. Because my communication are good, I am a good listener and can gain
information more quickly than the others.

Professional development plan is a formal document which lays out the developmental
needs of a person which it wishes to achieve within a specific time frame for the purpose of

From the above project report, it can be summarized that on going professional
development is necessary not only for the individuals but it also beneficial and essential for
organisations to create a culture of self and organisational learning for moving towards the road
of success and growth. For employees, professional development is beneficial in the way that it
makes them more competent and skilled personnel while for employer, this results into increased
productivity of company which is reflected in company's financial performance. Further, the
report concluded of assessment of own skills and competences by the way of swot analysis
through which it was concluded that time management and problem solving are my weaknesses
for which a professional development plan was created for polishing myself for job role of
manager in Hilton Hotel.
