Introduction
The main theme of the project is the development of autopilot tractor that can be used in
agricultural fields with much manual intervention. Lasseter Tractor Company will sponsor the
project as they feel the new auto pilot system for the tractors can significantly boost their
business and help them gain significant market share.
Discussion on the Project
In this project, the team will research and develop an auto pilot system for tractors so that
they do not need to be manually operated on the fields. This will save space and human effort
and will utilize GPS and other hardware to cultivate the land. The high level schedule for the

They key deliverable of this project is a fully functioning GPS based autopilot system for
tractors used in agricultural field. The budget for the development of the proposed autopilot
system is estimated to be around $600,000. The key resources required for the project include
GPS radar, computer with GPS reader and other hardware to control the tractor based on GPS
readings. The project needs to provide the manufacturing company with a significant amount of
cost benefit i.e. against the investment they are making for the development project, they expect
to earn at least 50% increase in their business in one year after the release of the autopilot tractor.
Moreover, the company also expects a return on investment (ROI) of at least 10%. A payback
period of not more than 2 years is expected in the project.
The project organisation will include a project manager, head researcher, hardware
operations specialist, software specialist and system tester. The project responsibilities are shown
in the following table.
