INTRODUCTION
Equality and diversity at workplace is a process of promoting equality for all people at workplace
(Wahab and et.al., 2018). Providing equal opportunities to all employees at workplace whether
they are from different cultures, age group, gender and race, is known as diversity. Diversity and
equality can have several positive impacts and it can improve performance of retailers. On the
other hand, discrimination or unfair treatment from employees can have negative impacts on
overall performance of company.
Aims and objectives
Aim
“To develop strategies for promoting diversity and equality at workplace”. Case study of
Burberry.
Objectives
To discuss the concept of equality and diversity at workplace.
To identify impacts of workplace discrimination on performance of retailers.
To write about positive impacts of diversity on employees’ performance.
To recommend strategies for promoting diversity at workplace.
Research questions
1. What do you understand by equality and diversity at workplace?
2. What impacts does workplace discrimination have on retailers’ performance?
3. How does diversity and equality at workplace can improve performance of employees?
4. What are some strategies by which fashion retailers can promote diversity at their
workplace?
Rationale
The reason behind selecting this topic is to help all people and employers in
knowing about ways of promoting diversity. It can also help students at
academic level in knowing importance of diversity as well as negative impacts
of discrimination.
LITERATURE
Equality and diversity at workplace
According to the Undurraga, (2018) when employers treat their employees in an equal manner
then it is considered as equality and diversity at workplace.
Impacts of workplace discrimination on performance of retailers
When employers do not provide equal opportunity to their employees or discriminate them o

the basis of their race, gender and culture then it can increase staff retention rate.
Impacts of diversity on performance of employees
Diversity and equal treatment with employees makes them feel valued. They are more likely to
help company in meeting their goals. It motivates them and feel refreshed at workplace.
Methodology – rationale, data selection and collection, recruitment,
participant demographics, analytical process
Research type: It refers a form of data collection. When researcher gathers data in non-
numerical form then it is known as qualitative and when it is being gathered in numerical form
then it is known as quantitative. For this, qualitative research will be conducted (Mohajan,
2018).
Research approach: When researcher generates a brand new theory for collecting appropriate
data then it is considered as inductive approach. When scholars develop an existing theory then
it is known as deductive approach. As it is a qualitative research so, inductive approach will be
selected.
Data collection: When researcher collects brand new data then it is known as primary data
collection and second and data when they are being collected via books and journals, articles
then, known as secondary data. For this primary data will be gathered (Johhson and Sylvia,
2018). Questionnaire will be conducted for collecting primary data.
Data analysis: As like research type it is also divided into 2 types such as qualitative and
quantitative. For analysing qualitative data, qualitative data analysis tools are being used and for
this study this will be used. For analysing quantitative data, quantitative data analysis tools are
being used.
Sample: Sample refers target people and process that is being used for selecting them is known
as sampling that is being categorized into 2 types. In random, people are being selected
randomly and in non-random, people are being selected on the basis of some set criteria. 30
employees of Burberry will be selected as a sample for gathering primary data.
