through mobilizing the power of humanity.
This is an organization that provides support or assistance to

They also provide assistance to the most vulnerable community
members regardless of their circumstances.
The fundamental principles based on which the organization
runs includes humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence,

Contribution to the Common Good
They provide a variety of services including community service, emergency help service, and specialized support

Red Cross is an organization that has been in practice for over hundred years and it has representatives doing social
work on the foundation of humanity and compassion across each and every nation to vulnerable communities and
victims in any crisis, their services can be accessed at even the remotest corners of the world.
Considering Australian Red Cross movement, the organization has now developed into a huge network for providing
humanitarian aid and support.
In last recent year itself, the Australian Red Cross has provided comfort and support to the elderly Australians. They
have given support to the children and families both in Australia and internationally that have been suffering from
crisis and disaster including warfare.
Elaborating further, the bushfire that affected Victoria and New South Wales destroying more than 40 towns and
during the Tathra fires as well, Australian Red Cross team helped the Bega evacuation centre, supporting the
residence and providing comfort, food, medicine, and even shelter to close to 58000 people.
In terms of disaster relief the organization has provided resources, support and comfort to war and disaster victims
both nationally and internationally.
Considering the Global common good, Red cross Australia has established collaborative partnership in 14 Asia Pacific
countries to increase capacity for support for the vulnerable communities and respond to the recovery needs of
victims suffering from disaster and humanitarian crises. (Nswnma.asn.au, 2018).
They provide spontaneous and active support in disasters and crisis situations 100 % of the time to minimize the
social psychological emotional and economic impact of disaster or crisis.
The organization has also been advocating and promoting the need for enhanced investments in the disaster risk
reduction and community resilience to combat any crisis situations more effectively and spontaneously. In the last
year the organization has achieved the success of increasing 4-fold national investment by government corporate
and other not for profit organizations in the disaster risk reduction and community resilience.
In the event of the catastrophic drought in East Africa, the organization has provided resources and comfort 2
millions of people that have been facing starvation. With support from the local authorities, they have successfully
established mobile clinic stopped with medicines vaccinations supplements and stopped by nurse doctor and
midwife two villages across east Africa twice a month to get treatment and support.
Hence, the contribution of the organization for the common good of national and international crisis disaster
situations for vulnerable people in need of comfort and support is remarkable and as per the 6 goals set by the
organization is a part of their 2020 support strategy, they are set to build a just global community that has the
foundation of humanity and compassion. (Redcross.org.au, 2018).
My Professional Contribution
For nursing professionals, there is a varied range of opportunities for the
nurses to collaborate and cooperate with their organizations and provides
national and international support services to the victims in disaster or
humanitarian crisis.
The nurses are the primary supportive network which has helped the Red
Cross Organization provide community services voluntarily across the world
for close to a century.
Nurses can either provide direct voluntary humanitarian or support service
through the Red Cross, or they can also enroll themselves in the Nursing
Federations, a nursing enterprises operated autonomously or semi-
autonomously by the Red Cross (Redcross.org, 2018).
The organization also provides the nurse volunteers to become a leader in
their community and provide humanitarian aid and support to those in
need. Along with their also several nursing student scholarships, such as
Jane Delano student nurse scholarship that provides the nursing students
the opportunity to get associated with Red Cross; honoring the memory of
Jane Delano, the principal organizer of Red Cross nursing services leading
more than 20000 nurses that served the world war 1 period.
Along with that there also National Student Nurse Associations or NSNA,
allowing nurses across the globe to participate and involve in the support
given by Red Cross.
Australian Red Cross Blood Services also has partnership with Australian
Nursing Federation that allows the members of the federation to participate
in the humanitarian support services organized and governed by the Red
Cross and provide support nationally and internationally for the common
good of people.
Hence, there are a lot of opportunities provided by the organization for the
nurses to collaborate in co-operate with them providing humanitarian aid to
the victims and vulnerable communities all across the world.
This not for profit organization has been attempting to build a global
community that joins hands with each other and supports the vulnerable
and tormented victims of any traumatic event for more than hundred years.
As a nursing professional myself I believe it is our moral responsibility to join
hands with the noble cause of Red Cross and help them achieve this dream
of a just global community which is established on the foundation of
humanity and support devoid of any malice or discrimination
(Nswnma.asn.au, 2018).
