The report designs an organizational and innovative change plan for Burger Fuel. The
objective of the task is to identify an innovative idea that will bring about desired
positive organizational change and it may touch on the products, people systems and
services. Burger fuel is a New Zealand burger restaurant chain. It has more than 88
outlets and it has operations in more than 6 countries. The restaurant offers products
such as burgers of different tastes such as chicken, beef and vegetarian. The restaurant
offers other products such as Spud fries, Kumara fries,I ce cream, bottled soft drinks
and snacks (Hisrich& Kearney, 2013). The innovative organizational change that is
evaluated in this report is on introduction of Facebook and mobile ordering system.
This is a system is expected to bring about huge changes in the operations and
structure of Burger fuel. The report discusses the effect that these change is going to
have on different stakeholders within the organization and how its going to affect
operations.
Strategic innovation and organizational change identification rationale
The organization under study is Burger Fuel. Its a New Zealand burger restaurant
with over 88 outlets spread in over 6 countries. The innovative opportunity identified
for burger Fuel is the ordering of products through mobile internet and Facebook
(Oxford Handbooks Online, 2013). This innovation is very strategic to the operation
of the company at this particular period. The ordering of products by customers online
through an application to be designed by the company or the internet is expected to

of the company at this particular period. The ordering of products by customers online
through an application to be designed by the company or the internet is expected to
increase the number of orders and to increase customer satisfaction. The innovation
will affect several stakeholders and processes in the company (Little, 2014). At the
foremost, the change will affect the employees, the number of staff serving people at
the counter will be reduced significantly. New staff will also be recruited to deliver
burgers to customers in different destinations. The change will also affect customers
since their ordering systems will change and they won’t need to visit the outlets to get
the burgers. The change will involve partnering with a delivery service company and
hence its going to affect the partners of Burger Fuel. This opportunity qualifies as an
innovative and organizational change opportunity since it affects systems, people and
service delivery in the organization and its expected to contribute positively to the
organization. The proposed change has a very significant change effect on Burger
Fuel since it affects customer service which in turn has a huge influence on customer
satisfaction (Mattiske, 2011). Time to write a group report on the proposed change in
the restaurant is a very huge problem since very detailed and wide research needs to
be carried out on the opportunity to access its viability. It is possible that primary
research and evaluation can be carried on the proposal. Problem solving models such
as Four Frame Approach and Cause and effect relationship are suitable for this study.
The possible outcomes to the proposal on mobile and Facebook ordering is expected
to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the organization.
Problem solving models
The problem solving model used in this study is the cause-effect analysis. This
method was developed in the 1960s. The tool uses diagrams popularly known as
Ishikawa diagrams to identify the causes of a problem and the effect it may have on
the organization. The steps involved in this process include:

Identification of possible causes of the problem
Analyzing the diagram
Some of the advantages of the cause effect analysis is that it operates through
brainstorming hence ideas from different people are incorporated. The method is also
able to answer the question why the problem occurred and hence corrective action can
be taken. In addition to this, this tool is also able to reveal the effects that the problem
will have on the organization unlike other tools of problem solving.
The disadvantage of cause effect analysis is those complex interrelationships are
difficult to show in the fishbone diagram.
Strategic management Tool/Concepts
The strategic management tools to be used in analyzing and evaluating the validity of
the mobile internet and Facebook ordering system is the SWOT analysis model. The
SWOT analysis model is very relevant in analyzing the viability of this opportunity
since its able to cover the most important aspect of the opportunity. The strengths of
the opportunity will be analyzed to identify the key success areas so that the Burger
Fuel can concentrate on them. The weaknesses are also identified and they will help
the company to manage risks in these areas and hence minimize the probability of
undesirable situations occurring. (In Goksoy, 2016) The potential opportunities
resulting from the Main identified opportunity are also identified and exploited. The
strengths of the opportunities are weighed against the strengths and the opportunities
against the threats and hence helping to make an informed decision. This concept is

not suitable for identifying creativity, feasibility, risk and other factors and hence
different other concepts will be applied.
Research methodology
The study needs primary data on the effect of changes on the organization and various
stakeholders of the organization. The information will be collected from managers of
Burger Fuel, senior and junior employees as well as customers. Both qualitative and
quantitative research methods will be used to collect and analyze information on this
study. Structured questionnaires will be used to collect data.
The views and ideas of the respondents will be analyzed and the information collected
will be used to determine the creativity, utility, efficiency, feasibility, risks and
resistance to organizational change that may result from the proposed changes
(Campbell, 2014).
The research methods identified will be useful in completing the project since it will
help to collect objective data that is useful for this project. The method will ensure
that the right questions are asked to the respondents and hence obtain relevant
information. The analysis of data will also help to meet the research objectives of the
project.
The research will mainly depend on quantitative data to help measure the various
variables being investigated in this study. Qualitative research methods too are used to
obtain descriptive data (Parry, 2015) A study sample of 36 respondents will be used in
this study. The sample is large enough to draw conclusions about the problem

Confidentiality is an issue in this research. It will be dealt with by using the dominant
approach where data will be collected without revealing their identification
information. This helps to protect the confidentiality of every participant.
The procedures used to collect data on the problem identified in the report are two.
The first one is collecting primary data through structured questionnaires and the
second is collecting secondary data from various sources such as books and journals
(Dawson& Andriopoulos, 2014). These methods are chosen because they are
expected to provide reliable and relevant data suitable for this project.
Project Plan
The scope of this project is limited to the effect that the proposed change is expected
to have on the organization itself and the stakeholders within burger fuel restaurants
in New Zealand (Von, 2008). The project focuses on impact on customers, employees
and the management of the organization.

Conclusion
The report evaluates the innovation and organizational change proposal of adopting
mobile and Facebook ordering system by Burger fuel. The paper begins with an
introduction of the company being evaluated and explanation of the rationale for
settling on the opportunity. The stakeholder that are likely to be affected by the
change are identified and the possible effects of the outcomes on the effectiveness and
efficiency of the organization. The cause effect model of problem solving is used in
this project. SWOT analysis is used as a tool for strategic management because of its
suitability in helping to assess the validity of the opportunity. The report also
identifies the research methods used and also designs the project plan together with
the project schedule.
