INTRODUCTION
In an organisation, many activities are performed which help in achieving company's
objectives. Management use to lead their employees as well as work with them by suggesting
ways or helping them in processing activities. So, they use many effective leadership styles in
order to perform their activities. Human resources of these organisations work with employers
and employees. Their main work is to recruit new employees to run business smoothly when it is
needed. Every organisation must have a proper team management that can make their work
efficient. This present report is applied on Purple Mail Company to recruit new an employee and
achieve its mission. It is one of the largest courier firm in the UK which needs a person for post
of HR Administrator as previous one has given his resignation. A job description is needed for
this post to hire a candidate by following all legal and ethical considerations. This report also
describes styles and impact of leadership in different situations of company.
TASK1
1.1 Documentation in selection and recruitment process
The main purpose of human resource management in any organisation is to recruit new
persons by making job entails. In regard of this, some documents need to be made to support this
process, that are job specifications, descriptions and resumes of applicants (Welford, 2013).
Purple Mail Company has shown some problems in its working department, so it need to recruit
an HR administrator, for this the documentation needed are described below:

1.2 Impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations in recruitment and selection process of
an organisation
Recruitment means to recruit new persons for fulfilment of vacant positions in an
organisation and the person having all desired ability that needs to be selected is come under
process of Selection (Impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations in recruitment and

selection, 2017). The procedures in recruitment and selection process are affiliated to legal
authority and regulation under an organisation (Bayat, 2013). These laws are discussed as below:
Equality Act 2010: It focuses on laws which are against in illegal practices of employer
during recruitment and selection process. So it comes into existence on 1st Oct,2010 which
replaces all laws such as Racial & Sex Discrimination Act, Employment Equality Act etc. This
laws mainly concerns to safeguard the rights of employees.
Legal and Regulatory considerations: Some acts like Racial, Sex, Employment etc
which are replaced by Equality Act, frames ethical standards that need to be followed also by
employers. The main purpose of these acts is to reduce and remove all type of discrimination
which is made by UK and come under Anti-Discrimination law. This law describes that no one
employee can discriminate on basis of race, caste, colour, age, sex, disability, etc. All employees
should be treated equally.
1.3 Selection process
The steps followed by an HR manager of Purple Mail Company for selecting a new
employee are discussed as below:-
Selecting Panels: Firstly he selects a recruitment & selection panels to select a new
employee. The members in this panels are selected by director of this company. For this, HR
department has to select three types of panels, in which first member is head of technical
department and rest two are senior HR manager and director.
Short list by interview process: The selection panel makes a short list of applicants. This
short listing selection is based on clearing MCQ exam, IQ test etc. From which, HR selects the
most desired candidates then arranges final interview process for them.
Appointing: After final interview process, the candidates who has cleared that round get
appointed by HR department.
1.4 Evaluation of selection process
According to the instructions mentioned as above I took part in preparing all necessary
documentation in recruitment & selection process. I have given all related job specification in
newspapers and on social sites for getting the required applicants (Mittler, 2012). In Purple Mail
Company, I was also a member in selection panel team so, I gave all my opinion which helped
them in making a short-listing candidates.

2.2 Comparison on leadership and management
Manager and leader in a company have different-different part of works. Managers
manage works of entire organisation whereas leaders lead their team to do a specific tasks in an
efficient manner. The difference between their leadership and management can be shown as
below:

There are so many kinds of leadership styles that exist which are useful in handling the
situations when needed in organisation. These leadership styles are determined and adopted on

the basis of environment and situation that vary in a particular firm. Some leadership styles are
discussed as below:-
Autocratic: This style allows a leader to take his own decision for handling a situation
without communicating with others.
Laissez-Fair: In this, a leader laces direct supervision and takes regular feedback of his
team.
Democratic: A leader listen every input from employees and members of his team to
make the decisions. Thus, this style boosts the morale of his team and employees who are
working around him.
Transactional: Leaders use to relies on rewards and punishments to achieve job
performance from his team members.
Comparison:
Among all styles, the democratic style suits in every organisation. Autocracy leadership
is not praised as it shows proud nature of leader that his decision cannot be challenged by
anyone. Beside these, lassies-fair is applicable when every employee is highly skilled and
capable. Transactional style doesn't involve much change and innovative ideas. Therefore, Purple
Mail Company uses democratic leadership normally. But if situation goes wrong then it has
adopted other kind also as given in following instances.
Situations:
Induction process of new recruits: In this process, HR manager adopts a transactional
leadership style for handling this process. This style can be applied when change is not
needed at the time of delivering induction process of new recruits. It holds a judgement
quality that helps HR in the selection process.
Communicating regarding vision of company to rest of organisation: In this, HR
manager can adopt autocratic style in his leadership for proper communication with
stakeholders.
2.4 Ways to motivate staff in achieving comany's objectives
Purple Mail Company has currently faced some leadership, management and
administrative problems due to which morale of its staff is becoming low. Thus as an HR, he
needs to concern on motivation of employees at regular basis so that work assigned should be

accomplished on time for attainment of set targets and vision of this company. He must uses the
following strategies with regard to motivation process.
Benefits for achievement of objectives: HR need to explained all short-term objectives of
this company to its employees through which they could perform their work well to achieve
objectives.
Clear explanation of expectations: Purple Company always wants a quality of work
from their employees, so HR needs to explain clearly all these expectations to its staff for
effective fulfilment.
Rewards and recognition: To encourage employees and gets their inspiration, an HR
should given them a proper recognition for work done as well as an adequate reward in return.
This would motivates them with a spirit of work in regard to fulfilment the set objectives of this
company (Yager and Zadeh, 2012).

Purple Mail Company has its own culture, values and working ethics. So it is expected
from employees to follow the same. This company allows its workers to do work in team which
is beneficial in achieving its set target in a specific duration of time which is quite not possible if
they are working as an individual (Jones, 2012). The benefits of team-working are high quality
outcomes and better context for individual which describing as below:
High Quality Outcomes:
High efficiency: When an individual works in a team then he can give more efficiency
in his work.
Faster speed: Team-work combines all efforts of its team which accomplishes the task
by consuming less time. Innovative idea: Every individual has his own idea which when combines in team give
more effectiveness knowledge that makes a task easier.
Better context for individual:
Mutual support: Working in a team, provides support to each other members.
Greater sense of accomplishment: It can feel by collaboration of members and their
responsibilities.

3.2 The importance of working in a team for a leader and employees
Leadership comes by combining responsibilities that a leader needs to lead from front
and can set an example for other teams to follow (Schleicher, 2012). As a part of teamwork,
leaders should resolve all conflicts which generally arise among members as all have different
opinions. He should follow some strategies to maintain good relationship among team members
that are shown below:-
Proper communication: All team members should communicate properly to resolve any
conflicts in them. They should share their views with each other and try to support as much as
they can.
Roles and responsibilities: All members should be aware of his roles and responsibilities
in team.
Open thinking: Members should be open-minded while working in a team.
Thus, success of any task in an organisation is depend on roles and responsibilities of
team members and their leader. The role of leaders behind success of his team are:
Coordinator: Leaders are like co-ordinator who coordinates in business activities and
tasks. They have contribute their knowledge and skills towards encouraging, motivating and
inspiring their team to achieve a common goal (Ahmed, 2015).
Sharper: Leaders are need to be sharper while handling a difficult situation. He can adopt
any effective leadership to solve it in a short period of time.
3.3 Effectiveness of team in achieving goals
The performance of teamwork in any company can be increased through supporting each
members to share their views with equal opportunities. In context to Purple Mail Company
(PMC), all its employees and staff should work together in order to achieve all goals and
objectives. Leaders and managers of an organisation play an important role in improving the
effectiveness of team. So, their involvement on same time motivates teamwork of PMC to do
work efficiently. It is a responsibility of them to provide a specific direction to follow a right
path as any deviation can decrease effectiveness of their teamwork (Berry, 2011). Its a
responsibility of members of team also check internal and balance system which concerns on
equal contribution of them.

4.1 Important factors in planning of monitoring and assessment of work performance
To understand productivity of employees at individual level as well as their needs it is
necessary to conduct monitoring and assessment of their work performance (Edwards, 2011).
Factors which affect planning of monitoring and assessment of work performance in Purple Mail
Company are:-
Quality: It is main factor of analysing performance of an employee which involves
appraisals system. This system include ability, accountability, relevant information, etc.
Design: Designing a job is use to encourage monitoring process.
Intervention: It shows the innovative ideas of employees that they use while completing
a task.
System: It includes those tools and techniques use by managers to observe performance
of all employees. These systems are also helpful for employees to do their work more easier.
4.2 A plan to deliver the assessment of development needs of individuals
Assessment is important in evaluating the developing needs of employees which helps to
introduce a plan which can support employees in developing their skills (Wasserman, 2016). So
in order to the same, following steps should be considered by manager of PMC as:-
Step 1: Managers need to investigate the problem behind low performance of each
employee. They should find how their performance can be improved.
Step 2: After identifying the improvement are managers have prepared a plan for their
development, which include essential skills set and competencies. Thus employees should agree
to learn these skills which helps them in improving their performance that are necessary to give
standard quality of work (Akkerman and Bakker, 2011).
Step 3: Finally, company conduct this plan by providing weekly or daily basis training
programs to its employees.
4.3 Evaluate success of assessment process
After conducting an assessment plan in order to develop skills and needs of employees,
its time to check its success, so Purple Mail Company takes following measures :-
It conduct an interview process to identify understanding level of its employees.
Monitoring the performance of each employee.
Comparing their current performance with previous one.
Review outcomes of individual performance.

By reviewing outcomes of performance of employees, PMC has concluded that if it has
raised then assessment plan is attains the success otherwise not.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from this report that working with leading people argues about
different functions of given company of UK. It is important to all organisation to follow legal
and ethical framework during recruitment and selection process. Managers and leaders requires
all skills to deal with situations that varies in an organisation. It has also shown by this report that
teamwork is essential for increasing the productivity of the company.
