TITLE: Impact of gender discrimination on employee performance. A study on Arbor City
Hotel.
TASK 1
Research proposal clarifies aim and objectives
Background of Research
Discrimination in an organization is not better for the organizational productivity as well
as reputation. It is concerned with not treating staff members equally. Mainly discrimination
arise gender, religion, age and other basis. Gender discrimination in an organization has been
considered in present project. This is concerned with not to treating the male as well as female
employees equally at workplace (Adesoye and et. al., 2017).Gender discrimination has a
detrimental impact on the efficiency and productivity of workers. Located nearby Aldgate East
Tube Station in London, Arbor City Hotel. The organization focuses mainly on the fair treatment
of all workers. This helps to achieve the company's goals and targets in the given time. It lets
workers remain on the job for a longer period of time.
Rationale of Research
The research is focused on the effect on employee performance in a company of gender
discrimination. The key aim of the inquiry is to examine the problem and to find the reasons for
the problems and to solve them. Gender inequality is a big problem and is not fair to men in the
workforce to treat women. The negative influence develops this type of problem. Behind the
issue emerge other attitudes that contribute to gender inequality on the job. At the other hand,
learners will develop their abilities and expertise to perform this investigation in better way
(Bayl‐Smith and Griffin, 2014).
Aim
To determine impact of gender discrimination on employee performance. A study on
Arbor City Hotel.
Research Objectives

LITERATURE REVIEW
Gender discrimination at workplace
On the basis of Jill Harness (2020) Discrimination toward gender may take different
forms at work so both men and women can enjoy the law. Gender discrimination typically
happens when an employee is handled differently by an organization because the worker is a
male or female. There are a broad variety of types of discrimination between men and women.
Gender discrimination includes various forms of treatment by employees and prospective
workers regardless of gender and gender identity. Gender discrimination can take several various
forms. They can deny highly qualified workers and prohibit employees from reaching their
maximum level of success. It can be applied to individuals of any sexuality Discrimination
toward gender may be violent or subtle, and not all that discriminates is apparent on the job.
Females have made it very clear that they are capable of succeeding with the same ability and
performance in all men's efforts; the question of discrimination against women is still a major
issue (Bruce and et. al., 2015). Sexual harassment can also often be applied to men, though
primarily a concern for women. Gender discrimination occurs everywhere at any time, but it
does have far-reaching consequences for women at work. Sexual harassment are an subtle kind
of discrimination against women that involve inappropriate sexual acts that conflict with work,
influence the job of the individual or establish a hostile working environment.

As per viewpoint of PAUL TREVINO (2018) Gender discrimination is correlated with
the problem of equal equality for both male and female workers. Employees face gender
inequality, which has a negative effect on overall result. In general, the effect of discrimination is
negative and can be in the form of stress or depression that significantly affects employee health
and decreases worker performance. This affects employee’s mind, through the psychological
reactivity that negatively affects entire performance. Gender discrimination has been identified to
reduce employee efficiency because they felt de-motivated and disincentive. There are several
forms of discrimination against females and males who are doing the same job, and that is a
difference between the earnings. In particular, it affects the morale of the staff at Arbor City
Hotel, as well as the level of business efficiency. Unequal treatment increases stress level and
gives physical disease more chances. It raises the absenteeism of the workers due to health
problems. It suggests that team members do not perform well and do not work to will the
organizational goals (Dalton and et. al., 2014).
Ways for preventing the workplace from the gender discrimination
According toJess Fuhl (2020) Arbor City Hotel must define appropriate steps in order to
remove discrimination based on gender from work. There are numerous different ways of
discussing them:
Provide training- Staff must recognise and report about discrimination at work, but the
management team must consistently respond to all discriminatory concerns on the same page. It
would also enable staff leaders to pursue constructive training programs on discrimination issues
if management teams are also evaluated. It helps the employee create a productive working
climate and improves productivity and performance. Furthermore, the Arbor City Hotel
management team has also been advised that they need to regularly provide training sessions,
input on working environment. This helps them effectively address discrimination on job and
reduces the adverse effects of these issues on employee performance (Kaushik, Sharma and
Kaushik, 2014).
Reduce gender pay gap- Gender pay gap among women and men is not maintained
unless Business Company maintains an appropriate confidentiality climate. The need to build a
new accessibilities working climate has been said to inspire Arbor City Hotel to address the pay

disparities between women and men and to discourage applicants from questioning them about
their current salaries.
Develop diversity from outside-Organizations popular the criteria for years of
experience from the job posting. It is method that motivates educated and skilled women to apply
for the jobs (Krishna, Kim and Shim, 2018).
Research methods
This is essential investigation part and beneficial to collect and evaluate information to
achieve the established study objective. This analysis uses many methods or tools to gather
reliable research data and information. There has been research onion used and various layers
considered given below:
Research Philosophy-The approach is a means of collecting, applying and evaluating the
data and knowledge related to the needs of the phenomenon. Therefore, a researcher is solely
responsible for choosing the most important theory to support the thesis (Morrow, 2011). This
primarily includes two forms of research approaches, namely positivism and interpritivism. In
conducting current investigation, an investigator uses positivism philosophy to carry out an
investigation in right direction and also analyse opinion of different authors.
Research Approach-In research methodology, two various approaches to analysis,
including inductive or deductive are required. Inductive research methods are focused on
existing evidence and deductive analysis approaches focused on hypothesis-designed hypotheses
and concepts. For this reason, a researcher uses deductive research approach as since it aims to
provide accurate information about the effect on workplace efficiency of gender discrimination.
(Malos, 2015).
Research Choice-This is major step in this direction and helps to determine the nature of
the research work using efficient methods. Qualitative and quantitative are two different research
choices. In this, qualitative depends on knowledge or data quality and on quantitative analysis
focused on statistical methods and expressed in numbers. In this, researcher uses a quantitative
research choice for all of these two separate instruments as it is beneficial to perform a
comprehensive analysis (Offermann and et. al., 2014).
Document Page
Research Strategy-As an successful tool, the Survey was used. This strategy is suitable
because it is helpful in gather the data and information within less period of time.
Data collection-This consists of two methods like primary and secondary. The
questionnaire is the best form for the primary method that the researchers would use to gather
reliable information. A variety of valuable sources such as books; magazines, papers, publishing
studies, etc. are used in the collection of the secondary sources. The investigators has been used
both data collection methods to gather secondary and primary information on the subject (Sipe
and et. al., 2016).
Advantages and disadvantages of Primary method in context to present
investigation
Advantages Disadvantages
This is easier to interpret the collected data. It is more costly and time consuming.
Issues are addresses properly Inaccurate feedback provides
It helps in obtain original data. Large number of resources needed.
Advantages and disadvantages of Secondary method in context to present
investigation
Advantages Disadvantages
Under this, data already exists. Investigator faces the complexities in obtaining
particular information.
It takes less time to collect information. Not particular to requirement of researcher.
Ease of the access to gather data and
information.
This method does not provide appropriate
information.

Sampling-Sampling is the recruiting method of group of people which can provide
information on current topics for the whole population. Essentially, there are different kinds of
the sampling techniques including non-probabilistic and probabilistic. Probabilistic sampling
method was applied as it gives every person equal opportunity to be selected as a sample and
helps to reduce the potential for discrimination. Through applying the probabilistic sampling, 30
respondents have been randomly selected (Verniers and Vala, 2018).
Time horizon-It is of two different types such as cross sectional and longitudinal. The
cross-sectional time horizon will be applied to the research because it is based on the current
situation as well as sufficient time is needed to help complete the study.
Document Page
TASK 2
Cost, Access and Ethical consideration
Cost- It is one of the most necessary aspects in research project. There is a need to
investigator to arrange the cost or funds for performing all the research related activities in an
effective manner. The cost involved in research can be related to stationary, travelling cost,
internet charges and other (Adesoyeand et. al., 2017).
Document Page
Access- To gather the information from various sources, access of sources is essential. It
is the responsibility of researcher to have the proper access about collection of data and
information regarding the specific subject area. This assists in performing a research in an ethical
way (Bayl‐Smith and Griffin, 2014).
Ethical consideration-A researcher needs to accept or obey the ethics in addition to
carry out any study task effectively in order to present accurate and best suited results. Ethics
apply mainly to confidentiality, dignity, recipient, secrecy, transparency and informed consents
in an investigation. These should help researchers to carry out the whole ethical activity (Bruce
and et. al., 2015).
Analytical tools
For analyse of collected information, thematic analysis has been used. In this, themes
have been developed and there is interpretations made on the basis of collection of information
in an effective way (Dalton and et. al., 2014).

Findings on Secondary basis
Under this, findings and outcomes are based on the literature review in which the
information has been collected by using secondary sources. Through using this method, aim and
objectives has been meeting effectively.
From the information mentioned in the literature review, it has been examined that
gender discrimination develops the negative influence on productivity of company. It arises
when company does not treat the male and female employees equally. From this reason,
employee’s leaves organisation and it enhance the employee turnover rate of company. There has
been discussed about the impact on gender discrimination in performance of employees. It meets
with the research objectives. Under this, company gives the less importance to female employees
as comparison to men. Management does not promote the females employees at higher position
because they think that they are not capable in performing the job roles. There has been
determined the effective ways to preventing workplace environment from the gender
discrimination such as Provide training, Reduce gender pay gap and Develop diversity from
Document Page
outside. It develops the positive impact on the employee performance and they will focus on
work and also sustain at workplace for longer time.
Research Limitations
Throughout most of the time of execution of research activities, there are several
limitations. Time is key limitations of this study. The research topic is comprehensive and the
answer takes time. In particular, it can be clarified the time for the entire analysis is not enough.
Specific constraints, such as inadequate resources, insufficient time for collecting samples,
imprecise actions, etc. are faced mostly by researcher. Those these are main obstacles faced
through investigators in ethical or structured conduct of a current research. This impacts the
researcher as both cost and time of study are done.
Recommendations for future work
The study is focused on the Impact of gender discrimination on employee performance.
Through doing this work, a researcher may acquire some knowledge and understanding of the
fundamental aspects. It will aid in the course of an investigation to resolve all forms of problems.
For addition, researcher will perform a comprehensive analysis and also assess whether the
challenges can be effectively resolved. In future, in the research will be conducted then
researcher will develop the time management plan and divide the activities in set time period so
that research can be completed effectively and will gain positive results.
TASK 4
Reflection
Based on overall investigation experience, this can be stated that I had passed through
many phases that eventually taught me a lot of capabilities, knowledge and growth. I have used a
range of approaches to conduct this research successfully to carry it out properly and produce
results quicker. I have been using primary and secondary data collection approach to gather
information on proposed topic to obtain full information and to obtain a reliable result. Through
the use of quantitative method, the general knowledge obtained will be further analysed. This
can see that these techniques were very effective by calculating the efficacy of this process, but
that they too have some drawback. Unlike the questionnaire method, respondents cannot publicly
Document Page
share their opinions. To order to do this effectively, researcher will definitely use interview
process to the immediate future because it helps to extract because much information as possible
from participants through simply giving them unlimited independence.
Alternative methodology
The questionnaire was created during the conduct of this research through means of
various questions relating to the particular area. It is less time-consuming way to gather
knowledge. Interviews are used in this analysis as an alternative study research technique. This is
effective tools for collecting data, which enable researchers to use and gather accurate and
appropriate information on a specific field. Specific questions should be addressed in this way to
help an researcher conclude an inquiry systematically. An interview can be an alternative method
for a researcher to gather information on effects on workplace performance of gender
discrimination. The useful information related to gender discrimination in Arbor City Hotel is
valuable for an investigator. The present study is important and leads to the successful
development of researchers' awareness of gender discrimination and its effects on employee
results.
CONCLUSION
Based on the above discussions of the concept of discrimination between men and
women, it was examined that it is regarded as among most prevalent types of discrimination that
actually impacts the business's working practices. It is because workers of the business actually
feel driven by prejudice and because of their unethical activities, would not like to work in same
business any longer. The findings also show that it has a strongly negative impact on the output
of workers and encourages them to regularly leave organisation. The key ways of successfully
removing gender-based discrimination in the workforce have been training of workers and the
implementation of equal opportunity policies. In addition, it was further analyzed that the gender
equality promotes companies with the appropriate handling of problems and also helps
employees withhold their jobs. It effectively helps organization develop best practices and allows
it meet its corporate goals faster. This allows businesses to rapidly increase their productivity.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Managers are encouraged to hold few training and learning sessions, helping them to gain
knowledge of forms workers can be discriminated against at work. It allows them directly
to take legal steps and take strict measures in connection with them through filing a
lawsuit against them.
Top management is recommended that its current policies be evaluated and some of
equality policy and higher penalties be included in order that gender discrimination in an
organization is quickly avoided.
The organization is recommended to conduct an efficient company research only in order
to identify the various discrimination can be found in the working environment so strict
action can be effectively taken toward the same.
