INTRODUCTION
Talent management is an essential element for an organisation that refers to the anticipation of
required human capital for company. It includes various activities such as attracting, on-
boarding, developing, motivating and retaining high performing employees (Ali and Anwar,
2021). There is different type of practices that leaders and managers perform in developing
employee’s talent. Present report has been conducted on the title of role of line managers and
leaders in employee development and wellbeing. For this study on Marks and Spencer is being
conducted which is a leading organisation performing their operations in retail industrial sector
and offer wide range of products and services to customers with number of employees and offer
their services worldwide. Within this research role of line managers and leaders in the process of
employee development and well being is being evaluated with efficient and appropriate research
methodologies.

Rationale for selection of topic
Rational behind selection of this topic is to evaluate leaders and line management role in
the development of employees and their well-being. In addition to this research has been
undertaken to fulfil personal as well as professional goals, in which personal skill for example
data collection, problem solving and time management can be improved. This research topic is
selected to provide significant measures for leaders and managers and professional context
through which they can perform their role in effective manner.

effectiveness of their employee development and wellbeing procedure. This research analysis

a process in which organisation in towards improving performance skills and capabilities of
employees in order to develop their potential. Main reason behind this is to retain experienced
and skilled employees with organisation for longer period of time and utilize their talent for
company competitive growth. Employee development and wellbeing allow organisation to
overcome challenging situations the great expertise. It is help of positive workplace culture in
which employees are being treated in transparent fair and effective manner through which
organisation can develop potential of employees at great extent.Furthermore, it has been
identified that employee development and well-being in retail industrial sector is playing most
important role as this segment is facing aggressive competition in which number of organisations
are offering benefits to talented employees. Thus, it is essential for companies to make sure that
they have positive working culture transparent policies an engagement of employees in the
decision making process in order to develop motivation and loyalty among them. With the help
of employee development and wellbeing companies can not only able to ensure long term
sustainability in market segment but can also save their cost on new hiring of training and
development to new employees and more (Badre, 2021). In addition to this it has been underline
that employee development practices also facilitate organisation to emphasize upon well being of
workers that help in developing positive brand image of company within market segment. It aid

level of employees. Leaders provide continuous motivation in terms of encouraging and
supporting employees that help them to perform their roles in effective way. Leaders and
managers make sure that employees are performing their roles and responsibility as the
organisation expectation for his they provide support and motivation to them on continuous
basis. It has been identified that in Marks and Spencer both line managers and leaders are
playing key essential role in increasing performance skills and capabilities of employees. Within
this line managers evaluate performance of every employee on regular basis and further training

Spencer’s make sure that employees are engaged in discussion and encourage them to be the part
of team that helps employees in building relationship and sharing their skills and expertise with
others.Furthermore, it has been identified that both line managers and leaders for the marks and
Spencer’s effectively undertake different type of practices and provide competitive benefits to
every employee in order to managed growth in effective manner.
Various challenges faced by managers and leaders in the process of employee development in
Marks and Spencer
According to the viewpoint ofEvans and Maley, 2021in the process of employee development
there are number of challenges that leaders and managers face. In terms of Marks and Spencer it
has been identified that challenge which is affecting leaders and managers process of employee
development is identification of skill gap. It has been evaluated that Marks and Spencer is a large
scale organisation with number of employees, in this leaders and managers face difficulties to
identify skill gaps as there is lack of communication prevails with organisational workplace
structure, which is also major challenge that affects development of employees.Furthermore, it
has been identified that efficient training and development sessions is another challenge, as in
