INTRODUCTION
Background of the study:
Human resource management is defined as a practice of hiring, recruiting, managing as
well as deploying employee of an organisation. They are responsible for developing effective
policies and maintaining positive working culture at workplace (Noe, 2018). HRM plays an
important role as they boost the morale of employees that has positive impact on productivity
and profitability of an organisation. In addition to this, it also assist in attaining objectives of
business entity by motivating and maintaining good relationship with employees due to which
they work with fill potential and remain longer with the company.
Context of the research
The present investigation is based on hospitality sector and Hilton London Metropole is a
chosen hotel. The organisation wants to identify the role of human resource management in
enhancing productivity and performance level of company. Human resource management help in
boosting the morale of employees and also assist in retaining employees for longer time period
(Armstrong and Taylor, 2020). In addition to this, HR managers hire best and effective candidate
for an organisation that assist in performing activities in an appropriate manner which leads to
achievement of objectives within stipulated time period.
Research aim:

Scope and rationale of the study
Scope: The present research has wide scope as it aid in raising knowledge about role of
human resource management in enhancing productivity and performance level. The main motive
of investigation is to determine the strategies used by HRM to enhance productivity of
employees. Population of present investigation are staff members of Hilton London Metropole.
Rationale: One of the main reason to select this investigation is to identify the role of
human resource management in enhancing productivity and performance of an organisation
(Berman, 2019). The present investigation will help researcher in both professional and personal
growth. In context to personal skills, it increase skills of investigator such as communication
skills, time management, data analysis, technical skills and many more. In addition to this, it
improve knowledge about role of human resource management in increasing performance that
assist researcher at professional level.
TIME FRAME
One of the most important factor for completion of project is time. Gantt chart is graphical
way of time management which will be adopt in this present investigation. Herein, various
activities will involved which are useful for completion of investigation on time period. Along
with this, it will assist investigator in identifying of starting and completion time of present

To gain knowledge about human resource management in an organisation.
According to SUSAN M. HEATHFIELD, 2020, it has been stated that HRM is one of the
important organisational function which manage all the issues associated to employees working
in company. In addition to this, HRM plays various functions such as performance management,
training and development, employee motivation, health and safety, recruitment and selection,
policy administration and many more (Human Resource management, 2020). Moreover, HRM is
also a comprehensive and strategic approach in order to manage people and providing positive
working culture to employees that motivate staff members to work with full efficiency and
achieve objectives within stipulated time period.
To identify the various ways by which human resource managers enhance the performance and
efficiency level of employees.
As per the viewpoint of Alex Wortley, 2018, it is determine that there are different ways
by which HRM improve efficiency and performance of staff members. One of the strategy is
providing and flexible working environment is it develop the interest of staff members towards
performing of activities. Another way that is used is performance appraisal that aid in analysing
level of performance of staff members with the set standards that help in developing strategies
for improving performance of company (Ways HR Managers Can Boost Workplace
Productivity, 2018). There are also other ways to increase performance as well as efficiency of
staff members such as support creativity, employee motivation, employee appraisal, promotions
and many more.

According to Palishtha Maharjan, 2018, it is analysed that human resource manager faced
many issues and challenges at the time of implementing strategies. One of the issue is hiring new
employee that is effective and capable of performing activities and for this it is important to
adopt appropriate method of recruitment and selection. Another issue is managing payroll
structure as per the performance of employees as some of the staff members are not satisfied
with their pay scale that decline their morale and performance level of employees(Challenges of
human resource management, 2017). Moreover, there are various issues faced is development of

policies as per satisfaction of employees. If the employee are dissatisfied with the policies then
they did not take interest in working of company and also not work with full efficiency to attain
objectives of organisation.
METHODOLOGY
It is basically a procedure of collecting data by using various research techniques as well as
instruments. Herein, the main objective is to gather valid & reliable information that assist in
gaining positive outcome of investigation(Boella and Goss-Turner, 2019). Research
methodology involves number of factors that is mentioned below:
Research Approach: There are mainly t wo forms of research approaches that is used to
analyse information about particular topic is deductive and inductive approach. Herein,
deductive approach will be useful as it help in proper evaluation of quantitative information in
less time period.
Research philosophy: Interpretivisim as well as positivism are mainly two forms of
research philosophies which is helpful for collection and analysis of data. For present
investigation, positivism philosophy were applied as it assist in gathering and analysing of
information which is in quantitative form. This assist in gaining valid outcomes in short time
period which is one of the main objective of choosing positivism philosophy.
Research strategy: There are various strategies which will be important for collection of
data. The research strategies are action research, experimental, focus group, survey and many
more. In order to gather data about role of human resource management in enhancing
productivity and performance of an organisation, survey will be adopted as it will help in
collecting primary information from questionnaire.
Data collection: One of the essential factor which is significant for research is data
collection. There are mainly two forms of data collection that is primary and secondary methods.
In order to collect primary information, the source which will be used by investigator is
questionnaire as it involve less time and help in attaining valid outcomes (Brewster, Mayrhofer
and Farndale, 2018). On the other side, secondary data is collected with the help of Journal
papers, articles, books and so on.
Research Choice: The two forms of research choice are quantitative and qualitative as well.
As per the research topic, qualitative research choice is considered as it help in collection of data
that is in numerical form.

Sampling: It is significant for researcher to make use of proper sampling method in order to
gain information about particular topic. Probability as well as no n-probability are two methods
of sampling. In order to conduct present investigation, probability sampling were used that assist
in choosing large sample size on a random basis. The sample size for present investigation is 40
staff members of Hilton London Metropole.
Data analysis: For analysing quantitative form of data that is gathered with the help of
questionnaire, frequency distribution analysis is undertake as an analytical technique by
researcher. It will assist in analysing data in a systematic and timely way (Macke and Genari,
2019). Furthermore, MS-Excel will also be used by researcher for creating graphs as per the
research question. It help in presenting data in a more effective and graphical manner.
Research ethics: It is significant for investigator to follow research principles in order to
implement activities of research in s systematic and proper manner. These principles are
confidentiality and anonymity, avoid deceptive practices, informed consent and so on. With the
help of research principles, all the activities will execute in ethical and appropriate manner.
