INTRODUCTION
Resort is private place which is designed for providing facilities and service to people like,
food, drinks, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. These service are provided according to
their demands and needs, so that they can fulfil them and gain some profits. This report is based on
Topdeck travel agency, it is one of the leading organisation of UK, which provide their service in
making packages to their customers for domestic and international tours. They have their tie ups
with different resorts of the world, but the main is Antra peace Haven Tangalle Resort and Spice
Island Beach Resort. They are one of the best resorts in their nations, which are very much popular
among travellers. Antra peace Haven Tangalle Resort is a Sri Lanka based resort and provide their
service in Tangalle island at sea side (Davis and et. al, 2018). They use to provide all basic resort
facilities to their customers like, rooms, food, accommodations, and other. Where as Spice Island
Beach Resort is a Caribbean resort, which perform their functions at Spice Island, eastern
Indonesia. It is a part of Molucca Archipelago. This report will help in explaining the details about
the functions performed by these resorts along with their structure. Also a discussion will take place
on importance of quality system in organisation along with their impact on them. In the last a study
will take place on incidents that can affect their functioning along with steps tour operator have to
take for dealing with them.
TASK 1
1.1 Analyse the function of resort operations.
Topdeck is one of the leading private travell and tourism organisation in England. Antra
peace Haven Tangalle Resort is one of the biggest resorts in Sri Lanka. It is presented at Tangalle,
which is a small town at sea side. This resort is surrounded with iconic culture, that can be easily
enjoyed by travellers come there (Zhou, and Chao, 2014). Along with this, another resort which
have contract with Topdeck is a Caribbean one, and its name is Spice Island Beach Resort. It is a 5
star hotel on Spice Island it is a part of Molucca Archipelago, which is presented at eastern
Indonesia. There are different functions, which an organisation use to play in resort management
and operations. Some these are as follow :-
1. Handling and Coordination with vendors and suppliers : In resorts like, Antra peace
Haven Tangalle Resort, there are ample number of suppliers and vendors which use to
provide several material ( Destro and et. al, 2016). These are very important for them to
maintain these material and negotiate them.
2. Customer service : For Spice Island Beach Resort, it is very important for them to properly

maintain their customers service. As this will help them in solving the problems faced by
their customers and also help in providing information.
3. Health and safety issues : For resorts, it is very important for them to make sure that the
food items provided by them are hygienic and they have to take care about the health and
safety of their customers.
4. Legal legislations and regulations : It is very much important for a hotel or resort to study
different legislations and regulations of the nation in which they are providing their services
(Tucker, 2014). As this will help them in making changes in their services according to these
rules, so that their service get improved for customers and also become authenticated.
5. Responsibility of handling and managing tour operators : It is very much important for a
resort, to manage and monitor the travel and tour operators working with them. As this will
help them in gaining knowledge that travel and tour operators are following all the
regulation and legislations of organisation or not ( Gil-Lafuente, Merigó and Vizuete, 2014).
Along with this, it is very important for them to make standards and rules, which travel and
tour operators have to follow. This will help resort in managing the performance of different
travel and tour operators in their organisation.
6. Food and Beverage : For a resort, it is very much essential to provide proper food and
beverages to their customers, so that they can take proper care of their guests. Along with
this, it help them serving their guest in manner, so that their customers get satisfied.
7. Front office : This is the part where customers come in contact of resort for first time, and
also try to impress their guest, so that they can get convert to their customers. Also people
there use to manage different services offered to them and also use to provide solutions of
the problems their customers are facing.

For a resort, it is very much important to have proper set of activities and also have organise
events, which can help them in providing some entertainment to their customers. For this beneath
are activities which they can organise in their operations :-
1. Diving : This is an activity, which is very much adventures and also people love to enjoy
this. As in this, resort use to provide facilities where their customers can make dive from a
hight in water or on land (Tezel, Koskela and Tzortzopoulos, 2016). This all help them in
feeling adventures, so that they can enjoy their holidays.
2. Seasonally events : In this, resorts use to organise events according to seasons, like in

summer they can provide activities related to beach like surfing, and in rainy season they
can make proper arrangement of rain dance, where as in winters, they can manage events of
snow skiing.
Also, there are different type of tour operators, which use to provide different guest related
to services. Some of these are given below :-
1. Independent tour operators : These are the tour operators, which use to perform their
operations from both online and offline medium (Chan and Hsu, 2016). They use to provide
their services, so that guest can make booking of accommodations.
2. Online travel agents : These are the tour operators which use to perform their operations
from online medium only. As this help customers, by making it easy to make packages for
them.

For a resort organisation like Spice Island Beach Resort, it is very important for them to
make quality system, so that they can provide better service to their customers. This will help them
in making loyal customers and also help them in increasing the level of customer retentions. Also,
this will help them in attracting ample number of customers towards them, so that their profitability
get improved. As quality system help resort in providing better and first class services to their
customers and also lead them in promoting their organisation, as one of the best brand present in
market. Quality system use to check different processes, practices and systems which are required
by resort for improving and making their system quality (Kelly and et. al, 2014). Along with this, it
is very important for them to introduce quality components in their system, so that their
profitability, revenue and sales can get improved. Now a day's, every organisation in resort industry
introducing different quality system and mechanism in their operations. As, this helps them in
checking each and every quality system, by the use check lists and audit lists. Along with this, for
analysing and reducing the errors and production cost in different process, they can adopt Six Sigma
and Total Quality Management. These will also help them in making quality of their products
services more significant. The quality system have to be implemented in the form of check lists and
audit lists, which are as follow :-
1. Check list of technical services : In this check list, resort like Antra peace Haven Tangalle
Resort have to make sure that the technical service and facilities like DC, AC, TV and other
are working properly. In this check list, all types of electrical and technical items get

2. Check list of internal and external security of resort : This is the check list which have
process like searching, controlling internal environment along with external environment
and entries of organisation ( Kotas, 2014).
3. Check list of house keeping : This check list is made up for maintaining the work of house

important of them to provide proper quality to each and every system, function and process of them.
The major processes which are implemented by resorts for quality system and process are Total
Quality Management and Six Sigma. These are the process which help them in reducing the errors
and defects form system, so their effectiveness and efficiency can get improved. Along with this,
there are customization approaches used by Spice Island Beach Resort, so that they can provide
offers and discounts to their customers. In this they use to make sure that their system, process and
functions are getting checked and audited properly according to the standards and legislations of
organisation ( Rushton, Croucher and Baker, 2014). This also help them in improving their quality,a
s regular checking and maintenance of system help organisation in increasing the quality level of
different functions. There are ample number of benefits of quality management approaches, that

1. Improvement in service : As when the system and functions of both the organisations get
checked and audited on proper time and according to the standards and rules of organisation,
then it will lead them in increasing the quality of their system and different functions
( Russell, Bobick and Schneider, 2017). This also help them in attaining high business and
also good revenue in their organisation.
2. Higher revenue and business : As making continues monitoring and checking of different
system of organisation both resorts can make improvement in their functions and also help
in attracting ample number of customers towards them. This all lead them in increasing their
sales and revenue, along with this, it help in making improvement in their businesses and

it is very much important for them to make some standards, rules and regulation which can help
them in dealing with those incidents. Some of these incidents, which can arise are :-
1. Medical Incident : For a resort like Antra peace Haven Tangalle Resort and Spice Island
Beach Resort, it is very much common to face incidents related to medical. As, people
working at one place can get disease or illness of their team mates ( Stamatakos and et. al,
2014). Therefore, at place many people working together, it become very much common for
them.

getting safe from difficult incidents. Following are the rules and regulation which they have to
follow :-
1. It is important for resorts to maintain proper fire frill system in their premises, so that they
can control the incident in very less time only.
2. Along with this, it is very important for them to have proper disaster management system in
their management team, that will work in the condition of disaster and can control the
situation in very less time.
3. Also, it is very important for a resort to have crisis management team, which can provide
their guidance to different teams working in conditions of any emergency.
4. It is required by resort to monitor and analyse their system on a regular time period, this will
help them in providing proper maintenance to their premises, so that organisation can be
saved from huge loss.
5. It is essential for them to hire internal as well as external training and development analysts,
which can judge the performance of them and provide required training and development

From the above discussion, it has been concluded that, there are different functions
performed in a resort, along with this, it is very important for them to maintain proper structure in
their functioning. Also, it is concluded that, there are different benefits of making quality system in
organisation of resort, along with this quality system poses different impacts over working of these
organisations. And, there are different incidents which organisation can face like, disaster, loss and
etc. These all have their special impact on performance of resort, but also for them it is required to
make strategies, which can be implemented for future benefits.
