PORTFOLIO PROJECT Part 1. Who am I? – Self-Assessment I am belonging to the ESFP personality type. This is the score that I have got after taking the different tests like the Human Metrics Jung Typology Test. The scores that I have got there are extravagant-53 percent, sensing 12 percent, feeling 47 percent and perceiving 19 percent. This shows that I am not really an introvert. I speak to people when I am comfortable. I like to experience many new things and I know that I have to come out of my comfort zone in order to do this. I feel that this approach helps in making the work very attractive and unique. - Reflection on psychometric test results and skills audit My score says that I am close minded- I am somewhat conventional. This is one of the main ESFP traits. This is evident from the fact that I like to find out new and modern things than sticking to the age-old conventions. Conscientiousness- I have a moderate score here. This shows that I do some work in being messy or in a disorganized way. I want to do the works properly but it often becomes much disorganized. Extraversion- I am relatively social. I like to talk to people and exchange my ideas with them and vice versa. Agreeableness- I understand people and their feelings. I like to help them whenever in need and I extend my support towards them. Negative emotionally
PORTFOLIO PROJECT I am usually organized, calm and relaxed. I like to solve every matter with a lot of patience. Personal SWOT analysis Strength-I feel that one of my greatest strength is my courage. I am bold enough to challenge the stereotypes. I do not really like to always abide by the predefined age-old norms and traditions. I also count on my trait of not holding myself back in tough or difficult situations. Weaknesses-One of my weaknesses is that I often try to avoid conflicts and ignore them. I feel that this will be good for ignoring all sorts of tensions but it can be harmful at times. I have to groom myself for all kinds of situations. Opportunity-One of my biggest opportunities is that I do not hold myself back. Whenever I see that there is one thing that needs to be looked after and no one is steeping in, I take the lead. I try to at least pickup courage and come out from my comfort zone. Threats-I often do not make plans for long term. This can be troublesome. I need to make arrangements so that there is no problem in the future. I have to keep many back up or alternative problems that might arise in the future. - My personal brand-Please use relevant career management and personal development literature in support of your reflection. Discover the opportunity I have noticed that education is one of the basic needs of the people around me. It is for this
PORTFOLIO PROJECT reason that I have thought of going into the teaching profession. Know your audience I have to keep in mind that I cannot please everyone. I will have to be very selective and will have to focus only on the targeted audiences. I will target the students and the youngsters. Define your values I will use the skills of socializing and public speaking. I will also try my best to help people whenever they are I need. Part 2. Where do I want to go? - Comparative Industry Analysis - Comparison of two selected industries/sectors The Two selected industries are the English Academic Industry and Environmental Education Industry. This part would be elaborating on the comparison of these two industries based on the below mentioned parameters: Main features The English Academic Industry is all about reading the books, analyzing the various different theories, critiquing the verse and prose and taking a much in-depth look at the words and signs surrounding an individual every day (Barrett and Liu 2016). The main aim of this industry is to get the students think analytically and creatively about the subject of English. It differs from the Environmental Education Industry as it is intended for the learners who are already proficient in the spoken and written English. This industry has the potential to equally focus equally on the language and literature sides but the other one specialize in one or the other.

PORTFOLIO PROJECT This industry train the students to critically analyses the workings of the language of English outside of the literature comprising of the casually spoken conversation, advertising methods, text speak and the use of the language in specialize medical and legal discourse. In this industry, the courses are assignment based, with papers and essays to be submitted on a regular basis (Tusting 2017). On the other hand, the Environmental Education Industry is a multidisciplinary academic field that studies the human being interaction with the environment in a systematic way and that too with the interest of solving out the complex problems prevailing. This industry brings together the principles of the economics, commerce, physical sciences and the social sciences in order to solve the contemporary environmental issues. In this industry, the students are taught a broadfieldof study whichcompriseof the built environment, the natural environment as well as the set of the relationship in between them. It encompasses the study in the basic concepts of environmental science and ecology along with the associated other subjects such as economics, laws, sociology, philosophy, planning, natural resource management, social justice, anthropology, urban planning law, politics and pollution control. However, in both the industries, exams are very common and they often come at the end of every year. Also, the combination of the assessment method that are to be used in these industries also depends on institution. Recent changes In the recent years, in English Academic Industry, only those English teachers are hired and accepted who are competent not only in the subject of English but have also gained a good amount of teachers training from relevant institute for a specific period of time. Also, they must be competent inn teaching the students the intercultural aspects and the details of the linguistics as well. A teacher teaching English in the school is no longer thought to be competent if he or she
PORTFOLIO PROJECT is a native language speaker. The real competency is on the intercultural competence, the linguistics and the sociolinguistics as well (Lengkanawati 2015). English teaching is in huge demand and it is now started at very early years in each and every schools. This ensures that the students are getting proper gaining and that too in the early days of their education. As the years passes by, they are taught the history behind the English language. Also, there has been many recent changes in the field of environmental education. This subject is more or less a new one and has gained good popularity in the modern times. It is for this reason that in the modern days many students are being enrolled in this course. Many new methodsofteachingarealsobeingundertakenlikearrangingmanynewenvironmental campaigns (Nisbet 2015). Students are being given training on how to stop the indiscriminate felling of trees and large scale pollution can be detrimental to the environment. However this is still a very new field and it needs to have a very large appeal. It is for this reason that being a good teacher of the English language is very important. This is a global language and it needs to be learnt by every individual. This will help to teach the environmental aspects and the need of conserving the nature to all the students. So, learning English would be very helpful in this aspect. Expected future trends and related graduate occupations There can be some threats that can come up in future in the Environmental education industry, like lack of enough funding for the proper working of the environment and lack of feasibility in their business innovation. The problem can also arise due to the lack of the proper distribution of the educational services. It is for this reason the funds have to be accumulated properly. This would help in making the environmental education schools operate successfully.
PORTFOLIO PROJECT There are good graduate options for both of the industries. However, it is seen that the English education industry is the best among the two industrial sectors. The sector chosen was the environmental education sector. If a student is well versed in English, then he or she would be able to gain the knowledge about foreign language that will help him to speak properly with people all over the world. Students could also learn language and gain proficiency in all the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. They can get recruited in many environmental education sectors and can also work as professionals in parks, non-profit organizations, nature centers and schools. Learning English will also help the individuals to overcome the future language barriers and they can easily explain people the environmental issues that are to be addressed. Also, the students from English Academic Education could go for teaching career, writer, digital copywriter, journalist, lexicographer, editorial field, web content writer, film director, arts administrator, Lecturer, Marketing executive, Librarian, social media manager and many more. - Comparison of three key organizations in one industry/sector The chosen industry is the English Academic Education Industry and the three chosen key organizations under this industry arethe Coleman College, the British Councilandthe Academy for English language teachers The Coleman College: Values:TheColeman College, which is a very good, old and well known college of Singapore (Coleman College 2018). 12PORTFOLIO PROJECT Fit with own values and goals-This fits with my goals as this will help me in undertaking many intensive research and developmental works. I will also be able to stay attached to the profession of teaching. It is seen that the English education industry is the best among the two industrial sectors. The sector chosen was the environmental education sector. If a student is well versed in English, then they will be able to gain the knowledge about an international language that will help them to speak properly with people all over the world. They can learn language and gain proficiency in all the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. They can get recruited in the other industrial sectors like the environmental education sectors and can solve the problems. Learning English will also help individuals to overcome the future language barriers and they can easily explain people the environmental issues that are to be addressed. Part 3 My goals and preferred sector/role I would like to opt for the English academic sector and it is for this reason that I will have to have to have some set objectives and goals. I will try to be a student informant- This is because I will have to give proper information to all the students. The linguistic information of a language has to be given to the student who is pursuing that. It is for this reason that I need to learn about all the details of the language. Inspire students I will have to inspire students from time to time. This is because the students are in need of inspiration from their teacher whenever they are suffering from lack of confidence. I will have
PORTFOLIO PROJECT to give proper efforts and will have proper enthusiasm so that I can always inspire the students (Vergeret al. 2016). 15PORTFOLIO PROJECT - Reflection on (mock) interview (3 videoed interviews, reflection on roles as interviewee, interviewer and observer, and how feedback was given to one another). There is substantial academic literature on these questions, which you should refer to and cite. Interviewee As an interviewee I tried to stay calm and quiet. I wanted to be a good observer so that I can get to observe the ways in which the other interviewees are performing or the ideas that they share. I also kept a control over my body language. I thought that as an interviewee it is really very important for me to maintain a proper dress code and body language. I thought that this is really very important. I went for an interview for the post of an English teacher so I worked a lot on my English speaking language. Interviewer As an interviewer I made sure that I appear very friendly with all the interviewees. I did not take the undue advantage of my position and I did not appear unfriendly with them. I wanted to make them calm and I encouraged them to keep up their confidence. This would help them to answer their questions properly. I also made sure that there is no biasness in the process of interview. Observer The observer was there to see the way the interviewees were carrying themselves at the interview. He was also a member of the interview panel and was keeping a strict eye upon the way in which the candidates were carrying themselves. The observer gave good feedback about the body language of most of the interviewees. He just
PORTFOLIO PROJECT gave bit negative feedback for some saying that they were very restless and was looking tensed. - Reflection on (mock) assessment centreo Reflection on networking event In the next networking event, I will make sure to be much more attentive. I will also be very careful in taking notes whenever the networking event is taking place. I will also make it a point to brush up my knowledge previously so that I can follow the network event properly. I will make sure that I am able to understand the things that are being said the event and also jot them down. I can jot them down either on a paper or may be in any phones or tablets. In order to make sure that I am able to overcome any kind of gaps that are present in my work, I will go through all these notes as soon as I return back from the event. I must take care of the fact that I am not delaying this process else this will be creating several gaps and I will not be able to handle them. I might realize that I am having many doubts in different places. It is at this point of time that I will be jotting them down and then using the best possible ways to clear them out and get the clarifications(Knight 2015). I will also keep a proper collection of all the business cards and then use them to create and update my profile on the internet. This will be increasing my visibility and my profile will get noticed by the best and the top recruiters.
