Literature review
In the opinion of Seoighe (2017) the depriving the equality is being referred to as the not
providing of the proper rights to the person. This simply means that some discrimination is being
taking place and this affects the working to a great extent. the reason pertaining to the fact is that
in case the discrimination is being taking place then this will affect the working efficiency of the
people in negative manner. Hence, as a result of this, the working of the people will be affected
to a great extent. hence, the deprivation of the equality from the tea plantation community will
demotivate them and it might be possible that they will not be working in better and effective
manner.
As per the views Gunatilleke (2020) the tea plantation is being defined as the planting
and harvesting the tea for selling it. The tea plantation is very essential for the growth of the
economy and the tea production is also one of the main source of foreign exchange for Sri
Lanka. Also, the sources evaluate the fact that contribution of the tea plantation is almost 2 % of
GDP which results in the total contribution of approximately US$ 1.5 billion in the year 2013.
Along with this, the tea plantation also provides for the effective employment opportunities as
well. the reason pertaining to the fact is that tea plantation involves a lot of work and as a result
of this it increases the employment.
In support of this A bitter brew: For Sri Lanka’s tea estate workers, fair wage is still
elusive, (2021) states that the Sri Lankan tea industry has lost the market leadership within the
global economy. The most common inequality which the tea plantation community being facing
is the fair wages. This means that the fair wages are not being provided to the people involved
within the tea plantation business. this is the major inequality which they face as they are not
being provide with the fair wages for the work which they are doing. The wages of the tea
plantation community are being stagnant and is not increasing which is not fair.
Along with this Ramesh (2019) argues that the workforce involved in tea plantation
community is being reducing. This simply means that as people are not motivated to work within
the industry as there are many different inequalities being faced particularly relating to pay.
Hence, due to this, the people are not interested in entering within the industry.
