Introduction
Motivation is about encouraging an individual to perform the assigned task in the best possible way. By
motivating employees, it is possible to improve their level of commitment and loyalty in an efficient
manner. To enhance the motivation level of workforce different motivation schemes are adopted by a
company. In this context, monetary schemes such as incentives, bonus, profit sharing and more in
order to make the employees capable enough to fulfil their psychological needs. Additionally, non-
monetary ways like rewards, acknowledgment, appreciation and more can also be adopted to boost the
morale of the employees. The present study will analyze how motivation affect the performance level
of workforce in the company. Further, the strategies adopted by the company to deal with the
employee turnover issues and enhancing the motivation level of workforce.
Brief overview of organization
Sainsbury is a well-know supermarket chain of UK. It has a significant share in the retail industry of
the country. The company offers range of general products and groceries to the customers. It is founded
by John Jamed in 1869 in supermarket sector of UK.

The present study is based on the analysis of staff motivation schemes on the retention level of the employees. It
will help in assessing how motivation can affect the willingness of the employees to work with a particular company.
Additionally, strategies can be prepared to retain the workforce for longer duration. In personal context, the researcher will
be able to develop significant amount of knowledge and skills to grow in the future career. Carrying out the respective
project will enhance the knowledge of researcher in terms of staff motivation that will make the investigator enable to
undertake future roles and responsibilities in the workplace efficiently.

According to Woodbridge 2020, Motivation refers to encourage an individual to perform the assigned task in the
best possible way. Through motivation, it is easy to improve the level of commitment and loyalty of the employees so that
they become an important part of the organization. In addition, motivated staff members are likely to perform their duties
appropriately which further leads the overall production and profitability of the company at higher level. Additionally,
motivation is also helpful in strengthening the relation of the employees and managers so that the business organization can
accomplish pre-defined goals in an efficient manner.
Impact of staff motivation schemes in enhancing the employee retention level in Sainsbury
According to Kearney, 2018, there are ample of motivation schemes are adopted by a company to make the
employees a significant part of the company. Monetary schemes include incentives, bonus, profit sharing and more in order
to make the employees capable enough to fulfill their psychological needs. In addition, non-monetary ways such as rewards,
acknowledgment, appreciation and more can also be adopted to boost the morale of the employees. These schemes are
imperative to keep the employees inspired so that they work in favour of the company. With the effective application of
motivation schemes, the organization is able to inspire the workforce in an appropriate way. The motivation schemes have

As per stated by Luther, 2021, it is monitored that employee turnover has become a significant issue for the
companies in current time. Now, individuals look forward for the opportunities of growth rather serving to the one company
during their entire career. For this purpose, they keep switching from one organization to another in search of growth. This
attitude of the employees enhanced turnover rate of the company and also negatively affects the existing prestige of the
entity in market place. To control the high turnover of the employees, company can adopt monetary and non-monetary
techniques. Incentive, bonus and other such monetary schemes can be adopted by the organization to retain the workforce.
In addition to this, non-monetary ways such as rewards, recognition and more can also used to boost encourage employees
to become a part of the company for longer duration. These strategies are not only helpful in minimizing the employee
turnover but also drive higher motivation among the workforce.
It is analyzed that the authors did not identified the impact of motivation schemes on the retention of employees
appropriately. There is lack of identification in terms of various strategies and approaches to address the issue of employee
turnover .
