INTRODUCTIONStudy skills in higher education aids to enhance competence, confidence and self-esteem(Khawaja and et.al., 2019). This is very effective in terms to improve ability to learn and retainknowledge. Henceforth, this course is designed to assist student to develop and use skills thatwill help them to be successful learners. The present report is based on the topic as “study skills for higher education”. Furthermore,report will cover following things as importance of foundation student for wider participationbackgrounds, key challenges facing foundation year students, Lastly, study skills in highereducation aids foundation year students to overcome these challenges. MAIN BODY1. Identification on significance of foundation year to students from wide participationbackgrounds.Foundation year can be seen as stepping stone as in the world of higher education. Hence,variety of subject can be studied in the foundation year from subject as social studies andbusiness management to biological science and sports therapy (Hedin and Kann, 2019). Thus,this is the course that defined as one-year preparation course for the international students whoneeds additional English language and academic preparation. This course is mainly designed forthe period of 1 year. Additionally, foundation courses for international students provides entry route into manycourses for undergraduates. Henceforth, it can be stated that the widening participation termedout as raising the aspiration and attainment of people from background that are under representedat the university level. Therefore, the main aim behind this is to ensure students at universitiesthat reflect the diversity represented towards to the wider society. Henceforth, the severalbenefits of the foundation year programme are defined in the following manner are as- Get feel for the tertiary education environment- The foundation and preparatory coursesprovide chance to settle into the tertiary study. Henceforth, studying at the tertiary level may bevery differ from what are used to, with the learning style as independent and reduction in thecontract hours that presents the challenges for the new students. Enhancement in academic skill- Foundation courses allows to develop skill for thetertiary education.
