INTRODUCTION
Taking care of others is a duty of every person involved in a health and social care sector.
On a broader concept it is believed that patients are the responsibilities of direct care workers
such as doctors nurses etc. This is not a true image on real grounds as the responsivity and role
performed by non-direct care workers is of equal importance (Leahy‐Warren, P.McCarthy and
Corcoran, 2012). They are those employees who are not actually employed for the core activities
of a care home but has a vital significance in its daily operations. The High Gate Care home is
involved in the health sector from past many years. It provides care to both older and young
adults for which employment to a good number of staff members is done. Apart from the direct
care workers the roles and duties of non-care employees is also very much significant in the
referred care home. The following report will discuss how the employees that are not directly
involved in the operations of the health sector play an important part in meeting the objectives of
The High Gate Care home.
P1 Identify roles of non-direct care workers
Non direct care workers consist of that group which is not given a particular job in the area
of care. Their role is to help the serving organisation to carry out their core objectives. They
serve different services in The High Gate Care Home and ensure that continuity of daily
activities is maintained (Daly, 2011). Though the role of non-direct workers is not clearly
defined in the health and social care sector they play an important role as without them is
difficult to cater services to all the users. Clear description of different roles performed by
distinct individuals is given below:
Office staff – It consist of group of individuals who do not give the health services but
help the people involved in core functions of referred care home to perform their duty.
Administrator takes care of the whole building that everting is on its place and resources are
made available on time. Receptions who is an another non direct care worker helps the people
visiting NHS by making them familiar with the place and provide them all the required
knowledge.
Security staff – This is another category of non-direct workers of high gate care home
who help in ensuring the safety of the health care. There are different shifts in which the staff

members of security department work and take care of the security. Their role is vital as a
number of people visit this place whose security is the responsibility of the concern care home.
P2 Outline the interpersonal skills required for non-direct care workers
In order to perform different roles at high gate care home non-direct workers need to
have different skills and abilities so that their contribution in the organisation is maximised and
they can help in the development of same in long run (Munro and Hubbard, 2011). Some of the
major skills required are as follows:
Verbal communication skills – It is important that people involved in the non-direct
working department has effective skills to interact with others. It helps in facilitating effective
flow of information in the whole work place that makes easy to work in a big organisation like
NHS. These skills involve different factors like:
 Listening skills – To take corrective and timely actions this is very much important that
everyone in the non-direct working department has enough listening skills as only than
they can interpret the information communicated to them and hence will act in the right
manner.
 Speaking skills – It is another interpersonal ability that must be present in the staff of
non-direct care workers. It involves clarity in speech and knowledge of the required
language. It has to be insure that people working in health sector use polite tone and show
patience towards others as this helps in making the people visiting the discussed care
home for services comfortable.
P3 Explain the role of non - direct care workers in the operation of a team
To carry out certain operations construction of team is done so that work is completed
more comfortably and in the most effective manner. each member of that group takes care that
the objective of the team s achieved for which each member performs certain roles and duties
(Lowes and Hulatt, 2013). The most common and important duty that need to be performed by
the non-workers in the operation of team are as follows:
Supervision – To achieve the results with minimum deviations monitoring the work in
progress is of great importance. It helps in identifying the mistakes or areas that are lacking
behind from the standards. In a team accountability and authority has to be delegated as this will
help in getting the work done with more efficiency.

Maintenance of confidentiality – there are certain information about the care homes that
has to be kept secret due to different security reasons. All those who are involved in the non-
direct care work force plays an important role in ensuring secrecy of such information since they
occupy a major part of the high Gate care home.
P4 Role of non - direct care workers in health, safety and security
Apart from the other roles discussed above the non-direct employees also has a major part
in maintenance of security, safety and health of different service users (Makai and et. al., 2014).
They carry out certain duties to ensure that no harm is made to those who are using the facilities
of the High Gate care home. The roles performed in order to maintain the heath and security are
discussed below:
Maintenance of cleanliness – Care home is a place where it is of very much importance
that enough attention is given to hygiene. It is for the safety of patients who may get infected if
the same is not maintained. Proper procedure is followed so that no compromise with the quality
of products is done such as clean gloves self-hygiene etc.
Safe storage and disposal – The other role of the non-direct worker of care home is to
take care that they place the waste material in a manner that it does not do any harm to others.
Apart from the disposal storing of those products and equipment’s that are hazardous in nature
should be done with care as this way the chances of accidents can be reduced and hence well-
being is ensured.
P5 Supervision and management in the development of non-direct care workers
In Health sector or any other business supervision and management is of great importance
as through same work becomes easy and chances of error are reduced to a great extent (Pollock
and et. al., 2012). Below is significance of supervision and management:
Good working relation – If work of non-direct workers will be supervised then they
support doctors, nurses and other staff members at the time of providing facilities to service
users.
High employees retention rate – If development of non-direct workers is assured by
management then they would not leave organisation. This will also reduce problems related to
job satisfaction.

From the above report it can be concluded non direct work play crucial role in
development of social care environment. Team working is significant care environment.
Supervision of non-direct workers can resolve problems like high employees turnover.
