INTRODUCTION
Significant life events can be defined as those situations in a person's life which have a
major impact on the life of individuals as their life changes to a high extent after happening of
same. These life events can be positive and negative both. Many a times, the events occurred are
normative and sometimes, these are Non-normative (Allwood and et. al., 2012). Normative can
be defined as those events which occur naturally in every person's life and non-normative events
include those types of events which occur unexpectedly and cannot be predicted even. The
chosen situation here is the phase when an individual loses someone very close to him/her. The
person who suffers from this pain is called as Bereavement. In this report, prospects of society
for supporting the individuals who are suffering from this pain will be highlighted.
TASK 1
Q.1 Impact of significant life events on individuals
There are many situations when a person has to face a very tough situation in his life like
when individuals lose their near and dear ones. It is a significant event in a person's life and it
occurs in everyone's life once. The life event that is discussed here is about losing a person who
is very close to the individual's heart. This event has the power to change life of the person. It
disturbs the whole routine of an individual who has faced this grief. This mis-happening makes
the person totally different and it can be depicted from the behaviour and their personal life
experience as well.
Impact if this life event is generally negative only as the person will suffer from various
grief, stress or depression etc. Its impact is as follows:-1. Physical impact - This pain has a huge impact on the lives of individuals. The person
suffers from muscle pain, feels weak and sometimes become sleep deprived also. It is
because; the persons have so much pain in their heart that they cannot sleep or eat
anything which causes weakness and depression as well. At this moment, the person
should definitely go for medical treatment so that they can go and recover themselves
(Bernard and Perry, 2013).2. Social Impact - This grievance will not have much impact on the social life of an
individual. If the person will get support from their family, friends and the experienced
persons then they can easily come out of such situations and change their behaviour.

Bereavement – It acts as a roller-coaster in the life of individuals. It is a situation in
which a person becomes numb or not in his/her senses. All persons are different from
each other and so is their emotions (Buchanan, and Nemec, 2010). Sometimes, these
situations make a person very strong and some people become extremely weak. The pain
decreases with time and so, individual should meet with different types of people and
change their environment so that they can come out from that painful sensation.
Q.2 Group response to significant life events
A person who is facing such situation in his/her life receives various kinds of responses
from several people who are associated with him. The response is different from all as everyone
has a different thinking and so is their reaction also varies from each other. Family of the
individuals plays an important role in supporting person who is suffering from such kind of pain.
The only requirement here is that communication with the depressed should be clear and
positive. The support which they receive from their family is very important for the individual so
as to come out of the pain. People who do not have support from their family face various
situations which make them weaker. The impact of group on the significant life events of an
individuals are:-1. Associates – There are many people who come for support at the time when a person is
facing such type of problems in their life. They come to give sympathy so that the person
can get some help so as to recover from this grief and also convince them that it is a part
of life.2. Communal media – It is a platform through which anyone can express their grief and
also support the person in this situation. These media platforms can also be used by
family members and a friend too so that they can share their emotions and say everything
what they can’t express face to face (Carter and Grant, 2012).3. Discover support –It includes the following :
1. Support of family and friends – In these critical situations, generally a person likes to
stay alone but instead of this, they should spend some time with their family and
friends so that they can come out of this pain as soon as possible.
2. Self-confidence – If a person is strong from inside then they can easily recover from
this pain as they know that it can destroy them from inside. Their inner voice gives
them strength to fight with such situation and overcome it as well. They know that if

any such situation occurs when they will not be able to control themselves then their
prayers will help him to stand once again (Chan, Tsoulis and Sloboda, 2015).
Q.3 Impact of individual experience on other's health and social care
Bereavement is an important aspect which is connected to the health and social care of
the individuals. The other people involved in these situations include doctors, nurses, care givers,
etc. who get affected by the death of an individual. It is a life event which affects severely to
everyone who is attached to such person. All these people always try to find various ways
through which they can help the individual in this situation so that he gains strength and face the
situations bravely. Their task here is to understand the individual correctly if a person is able to
understand the other person in a correct manner then only they will be able to help out the other
person who is going through a significant life event.
If a person dies in a hospital then the other people involve there are the nurses and the
doctors who is very close with the patient. They will definitely feel the pain of the person who
has lost someone very close. The nurses who were taking care of the patient will feel the loss that
has happened to the deceased family as the nurses grow a soft relation with the patients. It is a
part of their job but still they get mentally attached with the person. The Doctors who have
treated the person also feel that they could not save the person . It also have a affect on them
which hurts them from inside. But since it is a part of life , they move on and treat other patients.
The individual does not get a strong support from the Doctors as the doctors have a
policy that they can not get emotional with the patient and can't have a relationship with them as
well. If they will not be taken good care then they may feel weak or can get into wrong habits
like smoking , drinking etc. as at that moment they think that it is the best method to get over
such loss (Conway, 2015). So, all those people who have taken care of the deceased person have
a deep impact on the loss as they were attached with the person. But their impact does not bring
any changes in the life of the individual who is suffering from bereavement.

Q.7 Reflection and Recommendation on improving the support available in a health and social
care
I am always ready ton support the individuals who are facing tough situation in their life.
I have helped various people who have faced such type of situations and helped them in
recovering it so that their life can come back to normal and they live happily. One of the
significant event that in came across was related to my friend who lost her parents in a major car
accident (Finley and et.al., 2012). It was shocking for her as she never thought that she would
face such type of situations in her life. She was totally broken and was not in her senses also.
When in came to know about this I was also shocked and felt the pain she must be suffering
with. Her studies also got affected and she was not in a state to respond or to talk to anyone,
when I went to meet her,she did not respond or shared her pain as she was into depression . At
that moment I decided to help out my friend and bring her out from this difficult situation.
From that moment, I decided to meet her daily and spend some time with her so that we
can talk and she would share her pain. I thought I could help her easily but the case was not so
easy. So , after few days I took permission from her family and we went to a counsellor who
tried to cheer her up and bring her out of the pain that she was facing. I also made her attend
various motivational lectures so that she can get motivated again and start living her life again. It
was a very tough situation which she was going through so all the changes will come slowly
only. I just wanted her to get well soon no matter how much time it takes.
Various recommendations that are required to be given at this significant event are as
follows:-

The family of the sufferer should act as a strong support at this moment so that the
person does not feel that they are alone. It can definitely help them in coming out of the
depression.
The person should be given due attention, love and care so that they can forget the
incidence that has happened to them and can start their new life. It is also said that love
is the medicine for all the pain (Hawgood and Ponsen, 2012).
Professional help can also be taken if they want to cure the person as soon as possible.
These people are having good experience and knowledge which can cure the person
easily.

CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that it is very important to support the
individuals who are suffering from a significant life event because they are not in a condition to
come out of the situation in which they are currently residing after the death of their loved one.
All these significant events has the power to affect the mental issue and the health issue. In this
report, a proper mechanism which provides help in improving the support system is discussed
and for this , the whole staff is provided good training so that they can support the person in an
effective manner. Along with this, the organisational policies that have an impact on the
