INTRODUCTION
Sustainable tourism development is concerned with the various guidelines and different
management practices which are relevant to the tourism and with the different types of
destinations. Tourism industry is growing in the market place at the tremendous rate and this
needs the participation of all the perspective stakeholders to be informed and assures political
leadership to assure wider involvement of people. Taken location for this assessment is UK
which has a large number of tourist attractions such as London Eye, beautiful landscapes, exotic
beaches etc. This report will explain the rationale for planning in travel and tourism industry and
it will also concentrate on understanding different approaches to tourism planning and
development. It will also concentrate on understanding the need for planning for sustainable
tourism and various current issues related to tourism development planning. It will also
understand the present issues relating to tourism and impact of various socio cultural,
environmental and economic factors on tourism in developing countries.
TASK 1
1.1 How stakeholders are benefited from planning of tourism development with reference to UK.
Stakeholders are those persons who directly or in-directly impacts upon business
operations and activities of a company. Stakeholders that are related with tourism sector of UK
are local people, employees of organisations, government and supplier etc. some of the benefits
that are included are mention as below:
Economic development- With the more number of customer or tourist that visit a
country. The number of employment is increased that to develop and sustain the economy of
country as persons are earning sufficient amount of money. UK is able to attain tourism sector as
strength that help to earn more revenue because large number of customer are visiting their place
from whole world (Torres-Delgado and Saarinen, 2014). Local people will get the benefit as
they get the employment opportunities and other opportunities for improving their livelihood.
Community- This local community of UK country will be benefited as the government
can achieve their goals and aims with the development of tourism sector. In this case of
developed country like UK, competition and employment are two factors which help to gain
more benefits in tourism sector. The community of the UK will get benefit as the local job
opportunities will increase as well as the tax collection which will be used for the development

of schools, roads and other infrastructure. This will assist the local community in improving their
living standard as well as knowledge.
Competitive advantage- Country are attracting clients from whole world so it is essential
for them to collect all resources that are required by employer as well as visitors also. The
healthy and fair competition in the industry help companies to develop new technique by which
they are able they reduce their service cost because it helps to increase their profits. Investors
will get the benefit as the reduced cost will enhance the profit and that will enhance the return on
investment for the investors.
1.2 Advantage and dis-advantage of private/public sector
The partnership among the public and private tourism sector can impact the UK nation in
both negative and positive manner. There are several advantages and disadvantages of such kind
of partnership which is discussed below:
Advantages
Public and Private Partnership assist the economy of UK in ensuring proper investments
into public sector for proper resource management in order to provide the services of high
quality and in timely provisions. Such kind of partnership are also useful in reducing the risk for managing the
expenditures in effective manner as the work is divided into both private and public
sector.
Dis-advantage
The main disadvantage of public and private partnership is that the development of the
infrastructure can result in more cost for the country.

and costly as compared to the traditional public procurement.

term, complicated and inflexible as it is not possible to evaluate all the future events
which can impact the future activities of the nation.

Assessment of tourist demand and supply: This step is related to the analyses of the
present situation and produces the direction for succeeding stages.
Establishing objectives: In this step, the relevant and proper objectives for the tourism
are set with the help of detailed research and analyses.
Territorial planning: In this step, a specific attention will be given to the natural and
cultural assets of the country. It will avoid the damage which will result from an
unbalanced exploitation of economic value.
Basic infrastructure: The elements of infrastructure is the combination of various
services and utilities which needed for the effective operation of the tourism destination.
Financial planning: This is one of the crucial element for successful tourism
development plan. This will help in estimating and assessing the cost required for

Administrative structure: This type of structure is concerned with the preparation of
legislation and legal aspects such that it will help in installation of various tourism

Marketing and promotion: This is the final stage of the plan where the country will be
using different promotional tools for launching a tourism industry. For instance,
advertisements in newspaper, radio, television, magazines, etc.
Monitoring progress: At this step, the control will be done by comparing the planned
actions and actual actions. If any deviation will be found then the corrective actions will
be taken.
Time factor: This is relates to the time which will be taken to reach to the sustainable
tourism industry. It is the fundamental factor and assist in the preparation of the plan and
identification of the objectives is related under this.
Tourism development planning is a very crucial concept because for making plans it is
important for UK to characterise the different levels of planning and they are discussed below:
International level: The primary aim of international organisation like OECD is
concerned with promoting the various policies and procedures which will have the strong

organisations. The plans on this will required to include water supply, sanitation, types of
services etc. Thus, they will depend on international enterprises in order to encourage
them to promote and protect the different destinations and attractions.

Interactive planning sessions are concerned with serving the platform which will enhance
the collaboration between a cross section of project stakeholders and different team members
who will be responsible for exploring, discussing and developing solutions about a relative
