Discussion of SWOT analysis
Strengths
In context to the NSH long term plan objective Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is
meeting objective and standards of cancer services improvement. Such as in the service area of
this trust in, Queen Elisabeth Hospital now there is the availability specialist lung cancer
diagnosis machines this means patient do not need to travel more for the diagnosis from one trust
to another. Such as EBUS Endobronchial ultrasound for lung cancer and other diseases. In
context to the standards of 14 day referral for bowel cancer diagnosis, but now this can achieve
more faster GP nurses phone assessment. Organisation is following the gold standards for the
cancer biopsies, under which they include MRI scan.
Another most important standard or objective of the NSH long therm goal is Patient care
quality and safety assurance in context to which Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is very

effectively performing. The health care services quality improvement program of the
organisation is performing good with effective results. The Quality improvement program was
lunched in 2019, this was develop with the aim of improving front-line staff service and action
performance, this helps the staff to effectively identify the needs of changes in context to the
patient care then this program support staff with appropriate tools and skills of the new changes
implementation. In context to the improvement of clinical services this organisation used the
accreditation program through which they used the app the analysis of good things and
improvement needs. On the basis of which organisation make plan for addressing the needs and
improvement (MacKay and et. al., 2020).
Weakness
One of the most important area of the NSH long term plan is effective services in
emergency department for the prevention of further health complications of delay in treatment
but the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust get Failure in emergency department standards
accomplishment. Due to the negative impact of COVID on health care system with the
increasing health care and emergency services demand. The standard of emergency department
four hour wait is the national standard, according to which 95% of patient should not wait more
than two hours while attending emergency department. Organisation tried its best but the has not
achieved that national standard four hours performance in 2019/20. although they were
continuously working with partners to manage the situation, but the infection prevention
measures need due to the pandemic and higher rush prevent to manage that situation.
According to the planing of NSH health care provisions waiting list size should meet the
waiting standards, such as in context to the treatment of cancer there is the rules according to
which patient can only wait two week and after that they can get the immediate treatment but
trust has not met this standards.
Opportunities
Funding sources and technology are the best opportunities for Lewisham and Greenwich
NHS trust to work on the their NSH long term goals accomplishment through improvement of
the services and health care inequality preventions. Such as the development of new health care
settings and space through the funding of government manifesto. In context to the development

of 40 new hospital there is the £2.8bn invested by the government which is the opportunity for
trust to improve the emergency department services. Emergency funding was made available by
government for the infection control, post treatment care, social care. That £800m for infection
control. Similar to this there are the continuous investment and funding provided by the (NICs)
for NSH foundation. This is the opportunities for trust in context to the achievement of all long
term goals through selective investment in services development.
Technological development and innovation are the opportunities for organisation services
and health care practices improvement according to the new changes and needs of the long term
plan regarding improvement of the future health care services. This aid to meet the digital health
care services development objective of NSH long term goal (Green and et. al., 2017).
Threat
At present situation of the Pandemic developing health care services need and cost are the
major factors which can be threaten for the trust performance related to the NSH long term plan.
Because the funding sources and existing resources are frequently apply to the current need of
health care services and this is preventing the management of health care services for the future
health care system improvement and sustainability.
Work force management issues within new changes and plan, the behaviour of health
care staff are the key factor of organisation goal achievement and result. The changing plan and
new modification in health care system according to the NSH long term plan may face the
challenges of staff management. Because changes may lead to the stress and complication for
staff. And if the behaviour of staff can not effectively manage with changing strategies then this
can lead to the failure of the plan (Gu,and et. al., 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been concluded that health care services is can be effectively
manage for the well-fare of population, through implementation and accomplishment of the
health care code of conduct and health care association services framework. Such as NSH long
term plan is providing the effective structure or guidelines of the health care provisions and

services in context to the control of disease and reduction of inequality. External environment is
full of the opportunities and threat and in order to utilizing opportunities of effective action and
services and for the mitigation of threat that is important to make organisation performance and
external environment analysis with in the aid of SWOT analysis. From the Lewisham and
Greenwich NHS Trust, NSH long term plan associated SWOT analysis it has been identified that
organisation major strength is their continuous efforts for the accomplishment of long term plan
goals. Such as they are effectively achieving the safe staffing, breastfeeding, cancer
improvement and children obesity control standards along with the effective use of funding and
services. Weakness is lack of the efficiency in emergency department standards
accomplishment, threat is the higher demand of the health care services and work force
management along with the new changes in context to the accomplishment of NSH long term
goal. Some important opportunity for trust is higher funding support, partnership, technology
and innovation. Below is the brief illustration of the effective recommendation in context to the
maximizing strength and minimizing weakness and threats.
RECOMMENDATION
More effective staffing approaches- In order to maximize the effectiveness of
organisation strength and minimize the weaknesses or threats of the trust one of the most

can maximize the effective, by increasing the sufficient staff for the cancer diagnosis machine
management. Success of the organisation equality, safety and quality care program is can be
more effectively achieved with the aid of well trained staff. Major issue of the emergency
department and waiting list standards is can be effectively managed with the best qualified and
specialist staff. In context to the new plans and strategies accomplishment staffing can further
contribute in effective results. So that is important to use effective selection, training and
development criteria for health care employees (Singh and et. al., 2020).
Continuous innovation- In the health care sector innovation is the best mode of
problem solving. Such as Lewisham and Greenwich NHS trust should work on innovative
programs in order to improve their performance for the achievement of NSH long term plan
goals. Through effective management of their strength and weaknesses. In context to the

management of higher services demand and emergency services improvement organisation have
to work on the development of innovative services and service providing criteria. Such as the
online primary care services reduce the rush on hospitals.

Greenwich NHS trust to improve their services effectively, by implementing the effective
clinical errors preventions strategies, development of the effective care coordination,
simplification of the administrative process. Make more research for the development of
evidence based health care approaches. All this actions and measures will help in the
management of higher services need and higher cost pressure (Annand, 2019).
Development of the effective digital health care services along with the strong data
security- Digitalization of the possible health care services will help to effectively meet the
standards of waiting list and emergency department. This can also helps to manage the higher
services demand and lower cost through the online services facilities. And in order to reduce the
risk of data related legal issues organisation have to work on their information system security
development through new techniques implementation.
Improve the size, structure and guidelines of the health care setting- The increasing
demand and time effective care services is can be effectively manage with the development and
improvement of health care setting size and facilities along with this that is important to
improve the work flow guidelines according to the changing needs and environment. Lewisham
and Greenwich NHS trust should make the effective application of funding souses in
improvement of shaping and health care setting structure. Because this will help to manage the
all health care services and emergency needs with in right time, with appropriate resources such
as beds (MacKay, 2020).
