Literature review
According to Bailey and et.al., (2018), globalisation has led to provide international
influence of organisations to compete with the global firms for gaining market share. The
customers have wider variety of goods and organisations are adopting tactics for attracting
customers which are diverted to rivals and as a result, firms are able to attain international
connection with customers (Stirk, 2015). This has benefited customers as they are providing their
choices and tastes and company is able to satisfy them by offering desired goods and services.
The globalisation has led to enhance and increase in trade across borders of goods and services.

retail sector. Furthermore, it can be analysed that globalisation has benefited customers as they
are able to wide choices of goods. Hence, it has direct impact on sales and profits of companies.
Globalisation will have certain positive influence on the overall functionality of an
organisation. Especially, the sales and profitability of the selected retail enterprise will be
improved. As per views and findings of Charles Jr, Schmidheiny and Watts (2017), this can be
stated that the globalisation measures are effectively placed within the operations which will
improve the quality of retail services (Globalisation and its impact, 2018.). It also improves the
effectiveness of the firm to carry out the business operations and thus will lead the organisation
to have a good management of business operations on international level. This helps the firm to
improve the sales and revenue generation which are been carried out by selected retail
organisation. Operating on international level will not only provide the firm with a better
exposure but also aids into identifying the needs and demands of their customer within the
operating country as well as in the target nation (Corsi, 2016). It will pave the path of a
significant success and operations that are been carried out by the firm to improve the quality of
business operations. Furthermore, it will lead the firm to improvise their activities and operations
which will support a good growth of the firm.
However, on the critical note, the research operations carried out by Wood and Wilberger
(2015), states that the globalisation measures and activities that are been followed by the firms
will make them susceptible and prone to a wider level of competition. Such measures can be
proved out to be financially suicidal for an enterprise as uncertainty about a proposed target
market can land out to disastrous consequences (Epstein, 2018). As globalisation processes
involves a decent amount of financial resources, manpower and time, failure of these measures
can cause the company to have a major blow that can prove to be operationally fatal for the
organisation (Fleisher, 2017). Hence, the organisation is required to see through the proper
management of globalisation and business expansion activities along with improving the product
and service quality.
Handling of selected retail enterprise, Tesco PLC will look after the proper assessment of
the market conditions that will help in proper planning of business operations. The data
assessment and evaluation activities carried out by Shenkar, Luo and Chi (2014), indicates that
the market research and assessment actions will help the firm to make effective strategies to
tackle out any sort of risk factors associated with the globalisation of the firm (Gilpin, 2018).
5

This will improve the selling environment of the good and profit formation by the firm. It will
lead the organisation to improve the quality of business operations that are been carried out
within a business operation (Stirk, 2015). Hence, will lead the organisation to improve the
overall performance of selected retail enterprise. A proper market research will help the firm to
improve the quality of business operations and thus will lead the firm to improve the operations
of the business enterprise to a greater level.
Other than this, the operations related to the globalisation will help the firm to improve
their performance and thus, it will lead to a proper revenue generation. The findings and
suggestions of Yen and Abosag (2016), suggests that as a UK based retail enterprise, Tesco PLC
is required to maintain the quality standards and placing of the proper operations which will help
the selected retail entity to operate in much suitable and effective way. This will help in proper
assessment of operations and hence will lead the firm to penetrate and operate in foreign markets
in much effective way (Colen and Swinnen, 2016). The suitable carrying out of the market
research and data assessment actions that are been carried out within a target country will help in
effective placing of the organisation to a greater level (Importance of Globalisation for
businesses, 2018). The proper planning will help the organisation to improve the quality of
business activities (Corsi, 2016). The exposure on worldwide level will also aid a firm to get the
proper exposure to improve the quality of activities. It will assist the organisation to cater the
needs and requirements of buyers or clients of the organisation on international level (Epstein,
2018). This will also improve the quality of manufactured good and services, which will aid the
firm to gain a good sustainability (Gupta, (2018). Such measures plays a very crucial part in
maintaining the success of selected retail enterprise. Besides this, it will also improve the
customer satisfaction level and revenue generation of the firm, increasing the effectiveness and
success of the organisation in much suitable way.
Research methodology
In order to identify the effectiveness of globalisation measures on success and growth of
a retail business enterprise like Tesco PLC, proper data assessment operations are been carried
out, that will assist selected enterprise to gain a good share of business activities in much suitable
way. It will help management of Tesco PLC to determine the proper measures and activities to
incorporate in their business expansion and globalisation plan for drafting out effective strategies
and hence will lead the firm to improve their quality of operations in much effective way. The

research methodology will be implemented in order to carry out importance of globalisation in
improving sales and profits of company (Salazar, Crosby and DiClemente, 2015). By following
research approach and research design and other research elements, researcher will attain
conclusive evidence of research and globalisation impact on Tesco PLC will be assessed. Some
major research methods which are been carried out at Tesco PLC are in much suitable way are as
follows:
Research Type-
There are certain types of research such as qualitative and quantitative which can be used
by scholar for conducting research. Quantitative research deals with carrying out numeric facts
and figures while, qualitative research carries out theoretical aspect of study. In current study,
researcher will be qualitative research as success of globalisation in terms of sales and
profitability has to be assessed from management point of view (Fleisher, 2017). Thus,
qualitative research will be undertaken and research will be conducted accordingly.
Research Approach: Selection of a proper research approach is a very vital part within
the organisation that will improve the performance of selected business entity. This will improve
the proper management of globalisation process and effective assessment of data assessment
measures in much suitable way (Gilpin, 2018). The approach includes the steps or measures that
will be taken in consideration by the firm that supports the proper assessment of business
activities and operations which will improve the quality of data interpretation. It includes two
types of research approaches: Inductive and Deductive. For current research, scholar has chosen
inductive research approach which will support the data investigator to induce or assume proper
trail related to business activity in much suitable way. The inductive research approach will be
done for supplying evidence for the truth of conclusion. Thus, evidence will be collected
regarding sales and profits data of Tesco PLC and research will be conducted in a better manner
as to how globalisation has helped company in achieving better financial performance.
Research design: Proper design of the data assessment is required to be carried out that
will improve the quality of business operations and hence will lead the organisation to lead a
good evaluation of global business measures undertaken by Tesco PLC. It will help in proper
management and presentations of the data research and assessment operations which will
improve the core compatibility of selected retail enterprise (Epstein, 2018). There are basically 2
types of research designs: Conclusive and Descriptive. The present data assessment process

carried out by scholar at Tesco PLC includes the descriptive data research designing which will
improve the overall performance of selected retail enterprise.
Data Collection: It is a vital measure undertaken by the business entity and thus, will
lead the scholar within the enterprise to have a decent assessment of information that is been
carried out within the organisation that will improve the overall performance of the business
enterprises and operations that are been carried out within a retail operation to a greater extent
(Adekola and Sergi, 2016). For the current research process, secondary data will be gathered
with regards to previous year's annual reports of Tesco PLC and will help in carrying out the
purpose of research as sales and profits will help in reflecting overall performance of company
(Annual report of Tesco PLC 2017. 2017). On the other hand, primary research will also be
conducted by interviewing senior managers of Tesco PLC which will form purpose of research
and there views will be recorded for examining data and carry out research questions therein.
The interview will be conducted in Tesco premises by taking appointment from finance senior
managers.
Sampling: The sampling is useful technique for getting data which is representative of
entire population. In current research, interview will be conducted from finance senior managers
of Tesco PLC which will be based on purposive sampling as there viewpoints will be recorded.
Finance managers are selected because the aim of the research is to analysis the impact of
globalisation on sales and profit which, so the information can only be obtained by finance
manager. Moreover, with this sampling technique, researcher will get desired data which will be
then analysed by applying data analysis method (Leavy, 2016).
Data analysis: Once the data is been collected, its proper evaluation is been carried out
that will help in improving the effectiveness of research process. The proposed research process
will involve the thematic data assessment to a greater level (Wheelen and et.al., 2017). The
interview recorded of senior managers of company will be used and on themes will be prepared
on the basis of answers provided in the interview. Thus, data will be analysed and conclusive
results will be obtained.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
For conducting primary research or interview, it is very important that researcher has to
use to some analytical tool and methods for research project. With help of analytical tools and
techniques, researcher has easily and effectively reach the aims and objectives of the research.
Research methodologies are the systematic, theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a filed
of study. Here are the different research methodologies used by the researcher are as follows-
Research Type- There are mainly two types of research which are qualitative and
quantitative research. The types of research that deals with numeric figures are quantitative
research. On the other hand, research that carries theoretical aspect of the study is called as
qualitative research (Quinlan and et.al., 2019). In this present research, scholar has used
qualitative research as success of globalisation in term of sales and profitability has accessed
from the senior managers of the company.
Research Approach- It is fact that the selection of the research is very important part of
the study. Research approach includes the steps which will be taken in consideration by the firm
that support the proper assessment of all the activities and operations to collect, analysed and
interpret the data. The quality of interpretation is improved by the selection of research approach
by the researcher. There are two types of the approaches which are deductive and inductive. The
approach where the hypothesis is traced from the existing theory along with the experimental
world is explored is called as deductive approach. When researcher starts with some ideas as
possible allowing the theory to unite from the information is called as inductive approach. In this
present research, scholar has used inductive approach. Thus, with the help of inductive approach,
research has effectively assessed the influence of globalisation on the success of Tesco PLC in
terms of sales and profitability (Dickerson and et.al., 2018).
Research design:It is very important in the research that their should be proper selection
of the research design. Research design is the systematic method to combine several components
of the investigations in a logical manner so that it the research problems and issues are addressed
logically. The whole process for conducting the research is depended on the selection of research
design because the presentation of the study is matter. There are mainly two types of research
which are descriptive and conclusive. Conclusive research design renders information which is
useful in decision making and the nature of the study is quantitative in nature. In this present

research, scholar has used descriptive research design is used to describe the characteristics of
population being examined or studied. In this present research, researcher has used descriptive
research design and by using this method scholar has effectively assessed the influence of
globalisation on the success of Tesco PLC in terms of sales and profitability.
Sampling: This is very useful technique in order to gathered the data that is
representative of the whole population. It is very important for the researcher to select the sample
for conducting the research. It is the process of selecting the part of the population. It is a group
of people which is studied in the investigation because it is not possible to study the entire
population. There are mainly two types of the research which are Probability and non-probability
sampling. In this present research, scholar has used non-probabilistic sampling in which
purposive sampling is used. It is the type of sampling where all the respondents in sample are
selected according to the intention of the study. Senior manager of Tesco has been selected for
interview. 5 Finance managers of Tesco has selected because the aim of the research is to
analysis the impact of globalisation on sales and profit which, so the information can only be
obtained by finance manager. Moreover, with this sampling technique, researcher has get desired
data which will be then analysed by applying data analysis method.
Data Collection: This is the most important part of the research study, without collection
of data, it is not possible to reach the aim and conclusion of the research. Data collection is
defined as the process of collecting, measuring and analysing accurate insights for the study
using standard validated techniques. Scholar can measure their hypothesis on the basis of
collected data. It is very important that data which are collected by the researcher are valid and
authentic. There are mainly two methods used by the investigator to collect the data which are
primary and secondary. The data which are collected by the investigator by his/her own efforts as
well as un-used data are called primary data (Patten and Wallerstein, 2018). For example, survey,
interview, questionnaire, force groups, observation etc. On the other hand, the data which are
collected by other sources like books, journals, articles, blogs are called secondary data. It is fact
that, the relatability and validity is very high in primary data as compare to secondary data.
In this present research, scholar has used both primary and secondary data. Secondary
data has gathered with respect to Tesco's previous year's annual reports and has help in carrying
out the purpose of research as sales and profits will help in reflecting overall performance of
company (Annual report of Tesco PLC 2018. 2018). On the other hand, primary research will
11
Document Page
also be conducted by interviewing Finance senior managers of Tesco PLC which will form
purpose of research and there views will be recorded for examining data and carry out research
questions therein.
Data analysis: The data which are collected by the researcher is in raw form, so it is very
important to give meaning to the data collected by the researcher. Data analysis is defined as the
process of inspecting, cleaning, transforming and modeling of data. In this present research,
researcher has used thematic analysis where themes has been prepared on the majority of the
answers.
Research Limitations: These are the limitations which are not able to control by the
researcher. These are the shortcomings, influences or conditions which places restrictions on the
methodology along with the conclusions. In conducting this present research scholar has faced
certain limitation which are not in control of the researcher which are described under-
Cost Limitation- cost limitation usually occurs in conducting the research. It is the types of
limitation where expenses cross the budgeted cost (Vannini, 2015). In this present research,
expenses has risen in collecting the data.
Access- Access is a type of permission which researcher has to taken for collecting information
from any source. Researcher has taken access for conducting the research but sometimes it
becomes difficult for them to take access of many sites because it is very long process and time
consuming. This is also a type of limitations because it is not handle by scholar.
Ethical consideration- These are the norms, standard, rules which needs to be followed
by all the researcher when they are going to conduct any investigation. Research in this present
research has collected information form valid sources. Nobody in the interview is forced,
everyone has freedom to leave (Lebow, 2018). Privacy of data is maintain in the research.
12

Finding and Discussions
Findings and discussion is very important part of the research. The entire result of the
data is depended on this section of the research. In this present research, scholar has used to
collect the data from the senior manager of Tesco Plc by conducting interview. The questions are
totally related to the aim of the study.

goods for which companies are adopting tactics for attracting customers which are diverted to
rivals and as a result, firms are able to attain international connection with customers. This has
benefited customers as they are providing their choices and tastes and company is able to satisfy
them by offering desired goods and services as supported by the Bailey, 2018. Tesco is
effectively managing the needs and expectation of customers since its foundation but still senior
managers of Tesco said that sometimes they got in trouble because of rapid changing of needs
and wants of customers. In addition to this, the living standard of customers are also very
changed which also raises the awareness of products and services they are using. On the other
hand, there are some senior managers who said that, customers needs and expectation are not
affected by the globalisation as customers needs and demands does not influence after
globalisation. Before globalisation also customers needs quality of products in reasonable prices
and same as today.

RECOMMENDATIONS

follows-
Tesco should concentrate on each customers requirements by considering primary
research.
Furthermore, Tesco must increase customer attraction with providing several
benefits such as discount, offers, entertainment services, etc. so that the sales of
Tesco will be raised more (Najib and Sosianika, 2018).

REFLECTION
The above research conducted by the researcher is on the impact of globalisation on the
sales and profitability of Tesco. Globalisation is very popular topic in the field of business and it
is very interesting topic to conduct the research. I have learned so many things by conducting
this research as it increase my knowledge and understanding towards globalisation. It is a great
pleasure for me to conduct the research on globalisation because it leads to the deep impact on
the companies along with the economy. In the research, I have formulated aims and objectives
and on the basis of objectives research question are formed. Researcher has used research
methodologies which is also very helpful for me and it makes me understand that how to fit the
research methods according the aim and objectives (McGuigan and et.al., 2018). The entire
research is based on the qualitative method which is also very interesting as I have understood
the views and feeling of senior managers of Tesco on globalisation and the interesting thing I got
is that majority is thinking positive about the impact of globalisation. Further, I have studied
various research methodologies which is also very helpful for me ion conducting next research.
ALTERNATIVE RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES

based on quantitative research as the present study is based on qualitative research. The result
can be more realistic and practical if scholar has used quantitative method. Further, scholar can

used deductive approach instead of inductive approach because it is time saving technique as
well as it lesson is very straight to point (Vannini, 2015). In addition to this, instead of using
descriptive research design, researcher can also use conclusive approach as it is best to reach the
right conclusion. Moreover, researcher has collected data major data from primary sources but
research can also collect the data from secondary sources as it is cost effective as well as less
time consuming technique. On the other hand, for analysis of data investigator has used thematic
analysis but scholar can use Questionnaire as the result is more practical and realistic as well as
time and cost efefctive as compare to interview.
CONCLUSION
The above report concluded that the impact of globalisation is positive on the company's
sales and profitability. It has paved the way for increasing global trade across borders in effective
manner. By increasing the trade, sales and profits of corporations are eventually maximised up to
a high extent. Further, it was also identified that globalisation led to raise and increase in trade
across borders of goods and services and expansion of investment is made and availed by
globally operating firms. In addition to this, research methodologies are used in order to reach
the aim and objectives as well as to solve the issues. Data was collected by conducting interview
where majority is favouring the impact of globalisation as positive on the organisation.
