Innovation is defined as the way of translation an idea ideal as well as invention into a
product and service. In addition to this, it is the process of bringing something new at
marketplace in order attract large number of people and develop value for customers. Innovation
plays a significant role in an organisation as it assist in attracting large number of customers
towards brand that leads to increase in customer base level and profitability of company
(Bratton, 2020). It also help an entity to attain competitive advantage at marketplace and
strengthen its market performance in an effective manner. On the other hand, leadership is the
process of motivating, influencing and encouraging people to attain common objectives. It is
analysed that leadership plays a vital role in every organisation as it enhance the productivity and
performance level in an effective manner. Moreover, leadership assist an entity to decline the
deficiency level and achieve objectives within stipulated time period. It is stated that without
leadership, higher authorities and employees did not perform activities properly. For the present
research, Hilton hotel is taken into consideration. It is an American multinational hospitality
company which franchises and managers a wide portfolio of hotels as well as resorts. The
company was established in the year 1919 by Conrad Hilton. The organisation head office is
located in Virginia, United States. The organisation has high market presence as it offer service
in around 50 countries and has more than 6215 hotels and resorts as well. One of the major
strength of company is its 1,69,000 employees who are effective as well as talented in
performing all the task in a proper manner. It is also one of the main reason of its success and
higher growth at marketplace. The present study is conducted in order to gain insight about the
significance of innovation and leadership on an organisational performance. By conducting this
study, researcher will be able to know about concept of leadership and innovation along with its
importance. In addition to this, there is discussion about importance of research that research
methods in a proper manner.

Rationale of research project
The present investigation is based on investigating the importance of innovation and
leadership in improving organisational performance. For collecting the information on particular
topic, some objectives are developed that give an appropriate direction to the study & also assist
in collecting information about achievement of main objective of study. The research aims and
objectives of this study are as follows:

Literature review consist of analysis an already performed research on the particular area. In
addition to this, it help in gaining basic knowledge about a specific topic that is undertaken by
investigator. Along with this, it act as a guide about study that is further need to be performed on

Importance of innovation within business
According to Joanna Barsh and Jonathan Davidson, 2018, it is analysed that most of the
organisation are putting more focus on bringing innovation with an aim to make their goods and
service more competitive at marketplace. In addition to this, it enable company to sustain in
market for longer time period and strengthen its market performance within the market. In
addition to this, kit is determine that innovation is consider as a key driver for an entity to
competitive edge. There are mainly two factors that has directly impact on the overall success of
innovation and these are technical resources and ability of a company to manager all these
resources (Brimhall, 2019). On the other hand, Leadership is the process of guiding and
providing direction to people in order to attain their common goals. In addition to this, it is
mainly a way of motivating, influencing as well as encouraging staff members to achieve
organisational objective within given time period. It is analysed that leadership plays an
important role in organisation such as Hilton hotel in enhancing the productivity and profitability
of company. In addition to this, it help an entity to carry out activities in a proper and effective
manner that impact positively on performance of the organisation. It is analysed that leadership
and innovation is interrelated with each other. Leaders motivate its employees to bring
innovation and giving new ideas that help company to strengthen its market performance in an
appropriate manner. Along with this, leaders instruct staff members in implementation of
activities associated with innovation.
Hilton Hotel leadership and management
As per the view point of Hitesh Bhasin, 2019, Innovation plays a significant role in
enhancing the organisational performance in an effective manner. It is important for companies
to bring innovation at marketplace as it attract large number of customer and enhance the number
of loyal customers at marketplace. In addition to this, innovation assist in attaining competitive
advantage at marketplace and enable company to fight with their rivals at marketplace.

Nowadays, people are prefer to purchase those goods as well as service that is innovative and
new at marketplace that directly leads to increase in customer base level of an organisation.
Further, it is analysed that innovation help organisation such as Hilton hotels to enhance its brand
image at marketplace (Gray, 2018). Enhancement in brand value help in remaining competitive
at marketplace. Moreover, innovation assist an organisation to make continuous improvements
that leads to higher growth and success as well. If it is taking about importance of leadership in
enhancing organisational performance. It is determine that leaders of an organisation motivate
and instruct its employees to carry out tasks in an effective and best manner which leads to
enhancement in performance and productivity of company. In relation to Hilton Hotel, its leaders
make use of participative leadership style within the organisation. In this, the employees have the
right to participate in the decision-making process and give their suggestion and ideas that brings
out some innovation. This leads to increase in performance and profitability of respective
organisation. Therefore, it is stated that both innovation and leadership plays an important role in
improving and enhancing organisational performance in an effective manner. This will assist
company to gain rapid growth as well as success within the market (Khalili, 2016). Moreover, it
help company to achieve their organisational objectives within stipulated time period.

productivity and profitability. In relation to the current scenario within Hilton hotel, further states
that training and development is a best suitable method, which can be adopted by the
organization to increase the performance as well as utilize the resources in an appropriate
manner. the management staff within the organization has to formulate a proper training and
development programmes which is inbuilt of on the job and off the job training methods. this
method can be used by the organization to improve the performance level of individuals by
improving their skills and abilities. Increasing the skills and ability individual can get favorable
to the job. This will directly impact on the productivity level as well as increased their
performance. Author also states that, concept of motivation can also be used within the
organization to improve the performance of individuals (Koontz, Weihrich and Cannice, 2020).
This is because, motivation directly helps in improving the satisfaction level of individuals while

working on a particular job. motivation also help for individual in identification of satisfactory
factors while working on the job which will directly improve the working capacity and
productivity. Increment is in the productivity is directly related to you better performance on the
job assigned to the individual.
To determine the challenges faced by Hilton Hotel while improving their organisational
performance with the implementation of innovation and leadership.
According to the viewpoint of (Koontz, Weihrich and Cannice, 2020) there are different
kind of challenges which has to be faced by hospitality organization while composing the
leadership and innovation concept to improve the organizational performance. According to the
author availability of resources is the main challenges which has to be faced by the organisation
while implementing the concept of innovation and leadership to improve the organizational
performance. This is because, implementing the concept of innovation organization has to
identify different kind of resources which are required to implement new tools in technology on
the organization. These resources include finance, human resources and many more. According
to whether there are also various kind of challenges which can be affect the performance of the
organization and will arise in front of organization while improving the performance. This
challenge includes management of human resources, for implementation of new and innovative
concept to the organization. Human resources also required a proper training and development
program which help them in identification of innovative ideas which has to be implemented on
the organization in relation to achievement of better performance. There are also different kind
of challenges related to allocation of fund identification of investment as well as various others,
which can impact on the implementation of new concept within the organization (Uhl-Bien, and
Arena, 2018). these challenges to manage wearing hotel Hilton because it is working within the
hospitality industry where there is highly competitive environment as well as an impact on the
updating of innovation and leadership style within the organization (Li, Mitchell and Boyle,
2016). According to the adoption of effective strategy related to training and development of
human resources as well as employing talented employees in the form can help in dealing with
these challenges.
From the above discussion, it is analysed that innovation and leadership plays an important
role in enhancing the organisational performance in an effective manner. In addition to this, it is
significant for the company to bring innovation in market as it help in attaining competitive

advantage at marketplace. This help company to gain higher success as well as growth at
marketplace.

This present investigation is important as the organisational performance and efficiency is
rely on the effective leadership and the innovation bring by company at marketplace. It is
significant for big organisations to make use of effective leadership style and providing
something new at marketplace as it help in improving performance and profitability of a
company. Nowadays, the choice of people is getting changed as they are like to purchase those
product as well as service that is innovative and new at marketplace and for this, it is important
for higher authorities and leaders to motivate staff members (Xie, 2018). Thus, implementation
of this study will be advantageous in giving information about the importance of leadership and
innovation in enhancing organisational performance.
CHAPTER 3: Research Methodology
In order to attain the aims and objectives of the present study, different literatures and
reviews of publication is considered and for better understanding about the specific topic,
primary research will be performed. Therefore, by comparing the past evidences and gathering
new information, the research question of investigation can be answered which assist in attaining
overall aim of the study. In order to conduct this study in a proper manner, various research
methods as well as tool will be used by investigator which assist in performing every activity of
research in a systematic and proper manner. It is significant for an investigator to choose the
appropriate research methods as it help in attaining positive and reliable outcome in future. The
methodologies to be undertaken foe this particular study is given below:
Research paradigm: The paradigm within research is undertaken as a model approved or an
approach the community of investigation for long that fits the form of research to be included. In
addition to this, the commonly used investigation paradigm are constructivism, positivism, post-
positivism and many more. In the present research, positivism research paradigm will remain
suitable for this present study which allow in analysing the collecting information in numerical
form that is easy to conclude and interpret as well.

Methodological approach: There are mainly two forms methodological approaches which are
used within the research that is quantitative and qualitative as well. For the present investigation,
quantitative form of research will be adopt by researcher which assist in gathering as well as
arranging information in a numerical facts & figures that is easy to give more reliable and
accurate information in an appropriate manner.
Research methods: It is significant for researcher to adopt an appropriate research method in
order to collect relevant and appropriate information. There are basically two forms of research
methods that is primary as well as secondary method (Zach, 2016). According to the
requirements of this study, both primary and secondary method will be adopted. In the present
research, firstly secondary data collection method is used that is gathered by reviewing articles,
scholar papers and books that give adequate proof. In addition to this, primary information can
be gathered in order to gain relevant and proper results. For the present study, primary data will
be gathered by using interview that assist in gathering information from number of people in an
effective and concise manner.
Primary method: Herein, the data is collected for the first time and is original in nature.
The sources that assist in collecting primary data is questionnaire, observation, interview and so
on. This assist researcher to draw a valid and reliable conclusion but take high time as well as
cost which is consider as weaknesses of primary method.
Secondary method: Herein, the data is already collected by the experts and professional
and is available on the internet, books, magazines, articles and many more. This help in saving
the time of researcher but on the other side it does not assist researcher to gain in-depth
knowledge about the particular topic.
Techniques: For gathering data according to the research question developed for this
investigation, interview will be consider for collecting primary data will be used. In addition to
this, it will allow investigator to gain larger information within the short format that takes less
cost and time as well.
Types of research methods along with its evaluation:
Questionnaire: It is consider as an effective way to gain information from large number
of people. It involves the view point of participants that enable researcher to draw valid and
reliable conclusion.

Interview: It is mainly carried among the two person that is face-to-face. In addition to
this, it help investigator to know about the perception of respondent and also improve
communication and interaction skills of researcher.
Observation: Herein, a person observe other people for a specific time period in order to
gain knowledge and information on the specific topic.
In the present research, interview is taken into consideration by investigator as it help in
gaining specific information about the topic. In addition to this, it also assist to draw valid and
reliable conclusion in an effective manner.
Sample size: It is basically a procedure which allow investigator to choose a group of
individuals from the whole population in order to collect primary information. There are mainly
two forms of sampling methods that is non-probability and probability sampling method. For the
present investigation, probability sampling method will be applied in order to select participants
on random basis. In addition to this, using random sampling method decline the possibility of
biasness in choosing participants. In the present study, the sample size would be 20 respondents.
Target population: For collecting data about significance of innovation and leadership on
organisational performance, the employees of Hilton hotels will be targeted. Managers are
experienced and have better knowledge and understanding about importance of innovation and
leadership on organisational performance.
Data analysis: It is basically the procedure of analysing all the collected information in order to
get meaningful data that extract answer to the developed research question and aim as well
(Koontz, Weihrich and Cannice, 2020). In addition to this, the information of present study will
be analysed by the assistance of content analysis technique that give themes before every
discussion to give idea related to the direction in which evaluation is performed & will be
described by the assistance of charts and graph as well.
Access and Ethics: Ethics are important in order to perform research in an appropriate and
rightful manner that did not arise any issues and conflicts as well. The present investigation will
follow all the ethical principles like anonymity, herein all the data of respondents will not be
disclosed at the time of presenting results and outcome of information. In addition to this,
principle of confidentiality will be followed properly, herein all the information is remained
confidential and is remain secret in an effective manner. This does not harm the participants for
being a part of investigation. Moreover, accessibility for the secondary information will be get by

online libraries and online publications wherein investigation implemented by scholars get
published. Further, it will ensure that right and appropriate source is used in order to collect data
that give assurance about reliability and validity of information.
Limitation: (Currie and Spyridonidis, 2019). On the other hand, it consist of several limitations
that is investigator did not collect information by face to face communication and interaction that
sometimes make it hard to analyse whether the right data is provided or not. Apart from this, the
information will be collected within the limited format according to the question decided
previously & also give it in short manner, therefore investigator have less information to explore.
In the present research, Interview method is chosen in order to collect information. In the
present study, questionnaire is adopted as a strategy to collect data which give information in less
cost and possible time period.

Theme: Role of leadership & innovation in an organisation
Q1. According to you, what is the role of leadership & innovation in an organisation?
Interpretation: Leadership and innovation plays an important role as it help in managing
activities and attracting large number of people towards brand due to which customer base
level and market performance is enhanced. From the total 20 employees in which 8 employees
said that innovation is important for the company in order to maintain its performance and
retaining in market for longer time period. The other 7 employees had opinion that innovation
and leadership is important in order to attain competitive advantage at marketplace. The
remaining 5 employees perceive that it is not easy to bring innovation as it require high time
and cost as well.
Theme: Different ways used to enhance organisational performance
Q2. What are the various ways Hilton hotel can use to improve its organisational performance?
Interpretation: It is analysed that there are various ways by which respective organisation can
raise its performance. From the total 20 employees, 9 employees said that leadership strategies
which motivate and retain staff members for longer time is a way to improve performance of
the company. Another way that is stated by 7 employees to enhance performance is brining a
unique and innovative service for customers that meet with their needs and preferences. The
remaining 4 respondent said that using of both concept together will work and help in raising
productivity and profitability in an effective manner.

Interpretation: Innovation plays an important role in gaining higher profits and raising market
performance in an effective manner. It is analysed that people prefer to consume those products
as well as service which is new and innovative at marketplace. This attract more number of
customer due to which Hilton hotel is able to gain leading position in the hotel industry. 13
employees of Hilton hotel said bringing creative and innovative idea enhance performance as
well as productivity whereas the left out 7 participants from 20 said that there is high risk to
bring innovation as it involve high cost, time and risk as well.

Interpretation: 9 staff members of Hilton hotel said as leadership strategies played a crucial
role in developing strong relationship with employees and other associated partners as well. 5
respondents had insight as leadership strategies are significant in making effective relationship
as it help in developing brand image at marketplace. Remaining 6 participants had view as
leadership strategies facilitates talented and skilful employee retention which is the result of
strong relationship among higher authorities and employees because of using of appropriate
leadership strategy.

Q5. What is the importance of innovation and leadership in enhancing market performance of
Hilton hotel?
Interpretation: One of the main motive of bringing innovation at marketplace is to attract
large number of customers and to compete with the rivals in an effective manner. In addition to
this, it help company to remain in competition and sustain in market for longer time-period.
Out of total 20 participants, 14 staff members had idea as innovation and leadership encourage
employees to implement activities in a proper manner that has positive influence on
profitability of company. The remaining 6 employees state that it is important for respective
organisation to bring innovation and make use of effective leadership strategy in order to attain
high productivity that has direct impact on its market performance in a positive manner.

Theme: issues faced by execution leadership and innovation at workplace
Q6. According to you, what are the issues faced by Hilton hotel by execution leadership and
innovation at workplace?
Interpretation: There are various challenges faced by company at the time of implementation
of innovation as well as leadership. From the total 20 employees, 5 participants said that
availability of resources is one of the issue at the time of bringing innovation at marketplace.
The other 5 employees opinion that innovation arise high cost to organisation that negatively
affect on the revenue of company. 5 participants said that sometimes human resource is not
able to cope with the new technology of working and also they did not assume leadership
strategy is appropriate for the organisation. The remaining 5 respondents said that challenge
faced by respective organisation by implementing innovation and leadership strategy is
allocation of funds.
Theme: Innovation and leadership strategy impact positively on market growth and
performance

and performance of hotel?
Interpretation: It is said by the 7 interview participants that innovation help a company to
attract high number of customers. Along with this, it help in gaining success and growth at
marketplace. The remaining 13 employees said that innovation and leadership strategy not on;y
assist company to raise its market but it also help in making employees learn new techniques
and skills. This develop a zeal in employees to work with full potential to attain objectives on
time period which leads to increase in productivity and profitability of company.
Theme: Innovation useful in achieving competitive advantage at marketplace

marketplace?
Interpretation: Innovation is consider as an effective way to develop a brand image at
marketplace. In addition to this, it help in attaining competitive advantage at marketplace. 10

employees had opinion that nowadays customers are looking for innovative products as well as
services so that their requirements is fulfilled in an effective manner. The remaining 10
employees from the total 20 staff members had opinion that innovation is useful in attaining
competitive advantage and also assist in retaining at marketplace for longer time period.
Theme: Types of leadership style is used by an organisation to bring creativity and
innovation at workplace
Q9. Which type of leadership style is used by Hilton hotel in order to bring creativity and
innovation at workplace?
Interpretation: There are various leadership styles that help a business to motivate its
employees so that they can bring out their creativity level in an effective manner. 5 employees
from total 20 said that directive style assist in bringing innovation as if employees work by
following instruction they implement activities in a proper manner. On the other side, 5 staff
members had opinion that supportive leadership style help in motivating employees as they feel
valued and important at workplace due to which they take interest in activities and bring
innovation as well. The remaining 10 employees said that participative leadership style allows
staff members to participate in the decision-making process due to which they feel valued
while working with the company. This impose employees to bring out their creativity and
talent which has positive impact of profitability and revenue of respective organisation.
Result of the hypothesis – It is concluded from the above analysis that There is importance of
innovation and leadership in improving organisational performance. In order to bring innovation
in market, it is significant for an organisation to have an effective leader who has the ability to
motivate its employees to perform activities associated with new ideal in an appropriate manner,
which in turn leads to attainment of higher success and growth as well.
Conclusion and recommendations
Conclusion: From the above discussion, it has been concluded that leadership and
innovation plays an important role in enhancing productivity and profitability of an organisation.
In addition to this, it also help a company to attain competitive advantage at marketplace. There
are many challenges faced by higher authorities in order to implement leadership strategy and

innovation and these are lack of funds, unavailability of resources, no acceptance of employees
and many more. It is important for researcher to make use of an appropriate data collection
method so that relevant and valid conclusion is drawn on time period. Moreover, there are
various leadership styles that motivate or encourage staff members to bring out their talent and
creativity. Participative leadership style is consider as an appropriate and effective style as it
allow employees to share their ideas at the time of decision-making which make them feel
important and bring out talent and creativity at workplace. In the last, it is analysed that
innovation assist in attracting large number of people which is one of the reason of higher growth
and success at marketplace.
Recommendations: From the above collected data from the interview method, it has been
suggested that leadership and innovation is assist in raising performance and profitability of
company, so it is signifiant for Hilton hotel to focus on it.
 It is recommended to Hilton hotel to make use of participate leadership style so that
employees can bring out their talent and creativity at workplace that assist in gaining
higher profit and revenue from the marketplace.
 Moreover, it is suggested to managers of Hilton to make focus on providing unique and
innovative service to customer as it will leads to development of brand image and also
help in gaining leading position at marketplace.
