INTRODUCTION Various factors are required to be assessed that helps in understanding the changed practices and services in the health and social care. These factors or concepts can be illness, normality etc. People with specific needs means any individual or the health needs attention because there may be several risks or complex and complicated health situation as well (Thoits, 2011). Various categories come under this such as transgender, bi sexual, older people, people with disabilities etc. These can be considered as the people with specific needs. The report is about understanding the wide demand of people with the health and social care services. TASK 1 1.1 Concept of the following factors in context of health and social services There are various concepts that are concerned with the users of social and health care and these are discussed as under. Health: The following concepts consider the physical as well as mental well-being of an individual. Usually the fact is that if the health of a person is well enough, the capability of thinking and deciding about the decisions becomes a more effective process. A good health means a well-being without any disease or any complicated health condition.A healthy person can stay not only healthy at heart but happier from physical and mental body as well. So, thesemeasures should be ensured so that the family members can make sure that the health of Mr Holland can stay fit. Disability: Various people have to face some complex situations of time and they became disabling, and there are that people as well who are by birth disable. People with a long term issue or situation can be considered as a disable. This also acts as a barrier to their physical life and their participation to any health and social activity as well. So, the family of Mr Holland should ensure that disability can lead to various troubles and can make the life more complicated. Illness: 1
Illness can be considered as a period of sickness that impacts the health and mental being of a body. It can also be termed as a situation of being unhealthy but the period is not specific. It may be short as well a long-term illness. So, in case of any illness, the organisation will provide efficient services to Mr Holland so that he can attain a healthy life as soon as possible. Behaviour The behaviour of a person is considered as more informative than the words. One can easily assess the mind of the person by their behaviour. If a person is sill and is not comfortable, the changes must be visible enough on their behaviour which can help in assessing the condition of the person (Thoits, 2011).So, in case if Mr Holland face any such issue, the hospital authority should ensure to cooperate well with Mr Holland. All these concepts define above can help and reassuring the family members of Mr Holland Park 1.2 Assessment of changed perceptions over time As the lifestyles of people are changing day by day and the world has been advanced by the technology, the similar way people’s perception changes as well over the time and it depends on the current situation only as it acts as the key element. People with specific needs are more prone to harm, abuse etc., Although various positive approaches have been used and it also affected the behaviour of people towards this, but somewhere across various cultures, the fact is still present. Before, in the year 2011, a report on World Report on Disability has been published by the World Health Organization (WHO) where it has been observed that out of the whole population of the world, there are 15% people who has a disability. Although various treatments and services have been given to them but still some has the issue of disability by birth which is even more complex to treat. There can be various complications in this process as well. In another research, it was estimated that because of few several reasons, people are experiencing disabilities and these reasons can be termed as the lesser achievement in academics, poor health conditions, poor families etc. In this, it was observed that these reasons may be the actual reasons for these types of people. There are various situations when any patient can go through some sort of discrimination. As per the Equality Act 2010, it says no sort of discrimination is allowed in the work place on the basis of colour, race etc. Anyone involved in this may have to pay huge penalties and also can be suspended from their roles and responsibilities.Various people try to 2

suicide and becomes disable. People suicide because of poor conditions only, whether it is related to their personal life or academic etc., but these conditions decrease the mental stability of the individual, thus a huge number of people become disable by doing such kind of acts. 1.3 Impact of various factors on services for people with special needs Various factors here include the legislation, social policy, society and culture and the ways by which services can be made available for the people with specific needs. It is discussed as under: Several legislation's have been made by the UK government on the people with disabilities or specific needs. Equality Act 2006 is considered as the act that considers the fact that there should be no discrimination in any organization or workplace. All employees must be treated equally and the same way patients must be given equal treatment as they are already lacking in proper mental access and rude behaviour of the staff and nurses can more deploy it. The act considers that no discrimination on the basis of caste, sex etc., should be taken place as it can affect the mental stability of the person. Another act Disability Discrimination Act 1995 which considers the fact of excluding any disable child from the school on this basis. This can become serous for the organization. It may have to pay a huge penalty or go through any complex situation as well. The social policy considers that various practices have been implemented for helping the people with special needs. Social policies can also be considered as the social norms. So, in case if Mr Holland goes through any such situation, the family members of Mr Holland can file a complaint against the ones who are involved because it is not allowed in any case. It includes all the facts that are necessary to maintain the peace in the locality such as no ill treatment with the people with specific needs.Along with all these practices, society and culture are the two factors that are un avoidable. TASK 2 2.1 Analysis of the care needs of people with special needs It is an obvious fact that people with disabilities or special needs require more love and attention as compared with the normal people. Intensive care should be given to them in order to make their mind stable enough. As Mr Holland Park was visually impaired, has having hearing defects, 3
was exhibiting challenging behaviour and also early stages of dementia has been observed in him. Support in various context can be provided to Mr Holland in order to deal with these symptoms. These are discussed as under: Physical: Mr Holland must be given proper support physically. Accurate help in feeding him etc. should be provided so that he must not have any issue regarding it. Mental: He must be given proper mental support as well along with the physical support. When his mind will be relaxed, then his body as well gets relaxed and this will further help in making the person’s situation more better. Social : Mr Holland will be allowed talking and interact with the other people in the hospital so that he may not feel socially excluded because it can lead him to depression. the confidence of such people, so that they can become able to deal with the situations and complexities of life. There are various third party organisations which can help Mr Holland in the personality development program. By these ways, Mr Holland can be supported and it can help him in recovering from the complex conditions of life. 2.3 Evaluation of the services in a specific locality The services and process available in a locality acts as a key indicator of the whole society, It gives an assessment of the standards of the people. The evaluation of the services that are being provided in a locality can be used easily for an easy interpretation of the requirements of the locality so that it can turn in a more better and effective place. If the services that are available are not good enough that they can help the people with specific needs, then various modifications can also be involved in it so that disable people or people with specific needs can be given proper and accurate treatment. It will help the people as well in dealing with these complex situations such that they can also live a general life and enjoy all the functions as well. The factors that are defined below can be evaluated as following: Counselling The counselling process in a selected locality can help in making clear the decisions about what measures can be added in that specific locality which can have a better and positive impact on the people with specific needs. The process may help in involving the other essential requirements as well which can be indulged such that the people with disabilities can get cured. The effort of the people was highly appreciated as they represented confidence, highly motivated levels and the ways and methods for dealing with the people as well.Volunteer services can also be provided to the patients as it can further provide support and care and can also help in managing the expenditures.By the organization, various competitions or sessions can also be organised in 7
order to make sure that all the patients take part in it actively. The results of this idea can help in providing various positive results as the patient can be able to stay active. The level of activeness of the social and health care workers can help in minimizing the issues and poor situations of the individualswithspecificneeds. TASK 4 4.1 Various concepts of challenging behaviour Challenging behaviour can also be considered as a behaviour that cannot be termed as normal and is referred as abnormal. The behaviour may interpret the learning and development process of a person which can be harmful for the person (Challenging behaviour,2017). It can increase the rate of risks for social issues. It can be because of various reasons but usually the reasons that have been observed are family problems, relationship issues, poor academic qualifications etc. These make the person emotionally as well as mentally unstable, thus it directly affects the mental stability of a person and the behaviour of the person seems challenging (Munn-Giddings and Winter, 2013).It can be of various types such as scratching, head-butting, punching, spitting, unreliable or sexual interpretation in public places etc. These can be considered as the types of challenging behaviour. In these types of situation, the brain takes the hormones and chemicals in an inappropriate way, thus it loses its stability of taking the decisions and focusing on it. This behaviour of a person can cause various troubles in the future and present activities of a person. These symptoms only make the mind status of the person unstable, thus forcing them to do complex and complicated tasks by taking huge risks on their lives. Some may even think of suicidal factors because of the instability of the presence of the mind as well. 8
