LITERATURE REVIEW
Talent management and its importance in context to hospitality sector
As per opinion of Cora Llamas (2020) Talent management is a process of managing the
human resource in an organisation. It relates to managing the people by putting them at right
position (according to skills and knowledge they possess) and motivate them regularly to grow.
The job of talent management team is also to estimate human capital required in the future,
setting job description, strategic planning of human resource.
Importance of Talent Management in Hospitality sector
Hiring of workforce- The main aim role of Human resource management team is to
forecast the requirement of human resource in future. By estimating the requirement, HR team
2

does the recruitment process accordingly. Hiring people who is best suited for customer's welfare
and care for what the hospitality sector looks for (Bhat and Bharel, 2018).
Managing of work force- Talent management team also manage the organisation's work
force by performing recruitment, selection, promotion, giving orientation programmes to
employees, organising training programmes for organisation and so forth. It also handles the
grievances that may occur between employees. The team looks for the people who has attain
some degree or course in hospitality business because they know what skills and set of behaviour
needs in such profile.
Retaining of talent- An organisation works hard on employee's skills for the betterment
of both the employee and organisation. Any employee who is working in an organisation from
past many years is considered as a major assets because it is assumed that he has become
specialized in his job profile. Therefore, the organisation tries its best to retain its such asset. The
cost of attaining workforce and providing them training to new employees very often is actually
more in hospitality sector than to retain an employee in company (Choi, Tran and Kang, 2017).
Role of line managers and leaders in employee development and well-being in Chester
Grosvenor Hotel
According to F. JOHN REH (2019) Line manger are those managers who act as an
linkage between worker and upper management. They manage employees who are directly
related to activities like production, delivery of product or goods & services.
Role of line managers and leaders in employee development and well-being
Ensue performance appraisal of employees- In an organisation, itdirectly impact on
employee development and well being in organisation. In context of Chester Grosvenor hotel
where Sarah Ballam, formerly Rooms Operations Manager has been promoted to Hotel Manager
because of his good performance in providing feedback of employees and there performance
appraisal. This has positive impact on existing employees of Chester Grosvenor hotel as there
employees got motivated with efforts of Sarah Ballam.
Ensuring good communication- It helps an organisation in delivery of sound action plan.
Leaders or line manager of Chester Grosvenor hotel implement this role effectively as they have
a good organization structure in which communication flows in smooth direction, this impacted
positively as all of their employees know, In which direction they have to work, which enable
effectiveness in work and employee well-being.

Challenges faced by leaders and managers in employee well being and development
As per opinion of Halelly Azulay (2019) Leaders and line managers face some issues
regarding employee well being and development. Some complexities are given below:
Role clarity- It is main challenge which a manager faces while working in enterprise. A
line manager must ensure that employee of firm should not left wondering what they have to do
in organization. A leader has to ensure that there worker have a clear cut idea of what is there
role in organization . This is also an issue with Chester Grosvenor hotel, where lower level
employees make there decision at there own which is harming organisation structure and decline
growth of employees.
Meaningfulness of work- It is related to challenges which a manger face that how they
can make job of their employee more interesting (Heffernan and Dundon, 2016). Employee
make efforts to wake early, go to work every day for monetary benefits, but after some time they
get bored form this fixed routine. This was also an issue for Chester Grosvenor hotel, as there
employee turnover ratio is higher which impacted adversely on growth of employee of firm.
P2 Research methods and approaches
The research methods and approaches are helpful in doing research activities and whole
project in systematic way and getting the positive outcomes. There has been Saunders Research
onion applied that provides information about whole method used in research. Different layers of
research given below:
Research philosophy- There are interpretivism and positivism two different
philosophies. In conducting present investigation, there will be positivism philosophy used
because this follows the proper guidelines and give the accurate outcomes.
Research Approach- Inductive and deductive are two different approaches of research.
Inductive approach begins with observation while deductive starts with hypothesis preposition.
In present research, deductive approach has been used because it is appropriate from the small
sample size project and also easy to analyse (Jena, Pradhan and Panigrahy, 2018).
Research strategies- It is step- by- step action plan that provides the direction to efforts
and thoughts for conducting an investigation systematically. There are different research
strategies which helps in collection of data like questionnaire, interviews and observations. There
has been questionnaire used because this is easy to gather information from large sample size.
