INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is a procedure of employing workers, training them,
developing policies & strategies, compensating applicants and creating effective tactics that help
to retain and attract people towards specific job role within a company. The current study will be
based on ASDA, which falls under list of well known supermarket brands in the world. This
assignment will explain functions and purpose of HRM, applicable to resourcing and workforce
planning within firm. It will define key strengths & weaknesses of varied methods in context of
selection and recruitment and will also describe benefits of human resource management
practices within chosen company for employee and employer. Furthermore, this report will
justify effectiveness of several HRM activities in term of increasing productivity and profits of
business. It will clarify significant of employee relations in respect to influence decision making
of human resource manager. Moreover, this study explains important elements of employment
legislation and its affect upon judgement of HRM and it will also illustrate application of
practices that will conduct by human resource administration in work relate context.

P1 Explain the purpose and functions of HRM, application to the workforce planning
Purpose-
The main aim of human resource management is to increase the performance and
productivity of ASDA which is quite important to do as it helps permit company to gain
competitive advantages and be competitive for longer period of time while operate venture in
retail industry (Lee and Kim, 2018).
Functions of human resource management-
Selection and recruitment-
This function of HRM is applicable in context of employee resourcing that can conduct
at ASDA Company in effective manner by HR manager. For instance, human resource manage
is accountable to conduct this function which enable them to recruit and select right applicant
who can work productively and systematically in workplace which in return increase
profitability and performance of firm even better more than its business rivals.
Demand forecasting-

This function is relate to workforce planning through which HR manager and team
member forecast demand of organization in regards to workers who have appropriate skills and
knowledge. It is a procedure of planning skilled teams of staff members who can work better and
contribute in gaining competitive edge. It helps to forecast further as well as current needs of
firm for talented people place at specific job role.
Training & development-
Human resource management along with above functions conduct this one as well within
chosen brand in order to increase performance and productive nature of each staff member
which is quite beneficial for company in term of increase its productivity and profitability as
well.
P2, M2 & D1 Strength and weakness of different approaches of recruitment and selection
Recruitment process refers with the process of potential applicants are searched for and
encouraged to apply for an actual vacancy. On the other side selection is the process of hiring
employees among shortlisted candidate and providing them job within the organization in
effective manner. This creates more effectiveness for business in order to select best candidate
for company. There are different types of recruitment and selection approaches which are as
follows:
Internal recruitment:
Promotion: promotion is the internal methods of recruitment where ASDA company fill the
vacant post by promoting employees one post to another post (Ahammad, Glaister and Gomes,
2020). It has strength ad weakness which are as follows:

company's training cost is reduced because
employee have idea about work. This reduces
the chances mistakes.
This can create issue between employees
because they can feel jealousy with another
one who are promoted at workplace.
Transfer: In this process employees have to do same work but one the another branch of
department of organization (Boon, Den Hartog and Lepak, 2019). Strength and weakness of that
are as follows:

Interview: interview is the best and effective method of selection where employer can easily
select best candidate for company and for its work in effective manner (Boon and Boselie,
2018). This has advantages and disadvantages are as follows:

management able to hire the best candidate for
vacant post.
On the other side, weakness of this is to
employee get the fear when employer asked
any question which is not related to the field
then they are not able to qualify interview.

There are different kinds of HRM functions which are help to provide talent and skills to
employees in effective manner. The main functions of HRM are training and development which
is help to train employee for work. Recruitment and selection process is help to select and hire

the best candidate for company to work in better manner. Workforce planning is another aspects
where company make plan for employees and their working process in effective manner.

P3 The benefits of HRM practices within the organization for both the employer and employee.
There are different types of HRM practices which have highly beneficial for employer
and employee for ASDA. Those practices are as follows:
Recruitment and selection:
Recruitment and selection is the best part of ASDA where company hire and select best
candidate for company. This help to attract talent of candidate for working in better manner. This
creates more effectiveness for business to work in better manner. This is beneficial for both
employer and employee of ASDA (Brewster, 2017). This creates benefits for employer by hiring
talented and skilled employee for work in better manner. Through that employer have benefit
because is help to reduce expenses of training session. On the other side, benefit for employee is
to get chance to work in better company as well as give better efforts for achieving goals and
objectives of company.
Conflicts management:
This is the process of eliminating negative aspects of conflicts while increasing positive
aspect conflicts. The main aim of this is to enhance the learning and group outcomes, including
effectiveness or performance in an organizational setting. This creates various benefits for
employee and employer of company in effective manner. This will be benefited for company
when employer solve all the problems of employee an proper manner. Through that employee
learn new updates about the work process. On the another side, this is also beneficial for
employer of ASDA, when employee not face any problems than they give their hard efforts in
work process. Through that management of conflicts in better manner is beneficial for both
employees and employers of the ASDA company.
Those are the effective and valuable beneficial for employer and employee through best
HRM practices which are training and development and conflict management.

P4 Evaluate the effectiveness of different HRM practices in terms of increasing profits.
There are different HRM practices which are help to company in order to increase profits
of company in an effective manner. For that here is explained both the HRM practices which are
help to increase profit margin of ASDA are as follows:
Training and development:
Training ad development is the effective aspects where management have need to work
with that in effective manner. This creates more effectiveness for ASDA company and highly
contribute to increase profits margin (Delery and Roumpi, 2017). With the help of training and
development session employee chance to improve skills, learn new thinks and understand the
process of work. Through that employee have complete knowledge of working in better manner.
As that employee are ready to give their hard contribution for achieve goals and objectives of
ASDA and through that sales of company increases. This creates wonderful chance ti increase
profits of company.
Fair and performance based compensation:
This is another aspects where employee has great chance to build employment through
fair and performance based compensation. This help to build trust of customers towards ASDA
because company give fair compensation to employees against of their hard work. Like if
company is not provide then they are not give hard contribution towards work. Other, when
company is give then management have chance to get trust of employees, and they think they are
important part of the company. Through that profit of ASDA continuously increases towards
positive senses.
M3 Different methods of HRM practices, providing examples.
Training and development is aspects where employee can rebuild their skills and learn
new things. For example if employer organize training session then employee learn new things.
On the other side, if company not organization that mistakes increases and work issues created
(Guest, 2017). In addition to that, fair and performance based compensation is important in
order to increase profit of company. Like if company not follow the same then employees not
ready to give work then affect to profits of company.

Recruitment and selection is the process where company is hire the best candidates for
the company. Like if company is not able to hire talented candidate then company have loss

because that employee not able to work with us. On the other side, conflict management is the
best and effective management where employees can easily handle their problems in effective
manner. This creates perfect work culture for employees by managing conflicts.

P5 Importance of Employee relations in respect to influencing HRM practices.
Employees relations is a very important part of the company where employees can
manage their work. Positive and great employee relation is help to make positivist at workplace
(John and Taylor, 2016). Through that employees are able to help another employees for work in
better manner.
Negotiation:
Company using this strategy that will be help for creating effective relation with people
working in the organization and developing trust of employees towards the company. In order to
create durable relationship with the employee working in the organization ASDA is working on
the two-way communication and which are developing the strong bounding with the employees.
This can be influences them for doing work as well as giving rewards in return.
Communication:
This plays a very important role in the job satisfaction of employees as face to face
recognition helps manager of ASDA in order to identify problems of the employees, and they
help them by giving solution. This help to the motivating employees for working in better
manner (Macke and Genari, 2019). This can affect to decision-making process of HR because if
HR convey their message to employees then they share some information with other than it can
affect employer decision-making process.
Recognition:
Employee dissatisfaction may negatively impact growth of the ASDA as employees will
not work properly. Lower motivation rate, engagement as well as productivity may lead the poor
employee performance. ASDA are working on this aspect as that they are always appreciated to
their employees. Through that they are for achievement and his hard work and making
employees understand that there work is noticed by the organization (Tang and et.al., 2018)).
Main reason for recognition is to let employees know that there hard work is appreciated and
valued in the organization. Another thing that will result after recognition is that employees will

become more engaged and productive in their work. This can affect to the business and Hr
decision-making process in negative manner. This creates various negative aspects for business.
Through that practices HR decision-making will be affected in negative manner. This
creates more wonderful achievement for the business.
P6 Key elements of employment legislation and impact upon decision-making.
Employment legislation are the law of employment which will be followed by company
in order to work in proper manner (Michael, 2019). This creates proper effectiveness for
working in better manner. This provide specific legal guidance to employer of ASDA for work
by follow legal process. There are some legislation which are explains below:
Safety and healthy act 1974:
Under this act come the all the safety measures for employees within the workplace like
working condition, flexible working time. It is the duty and complete responsibilities of ASDA
to provide complete safety and protection to their employees and specially to woman by
following flexible time. On the other side, company can provide health insurance to employees
is help to work in better manner.
Employment right act 1996:
This act provide right to employees which are related to the job and company. This
includes complete rights of employees like leaves, study, training and many more things. For
example: if employee want leave in that case HR manager of ASDA have to provide leave
(Mondy and Martocchio, 2016). If company not provide then employee have right take action
against of that. So, as per this act management need to allow for leave.
Worker compensation act 1906:
Under this act employer and organization provide insurance, compensation, benefits and
rewards to their employees. ASDA can give their employees compensation. For example: if
employee is injured at workplace, then Hr manager of ASDA has to pay compensation against
injuries. On the other side, if company is not provide then employee have right to take action
regarding this (Stewart and Brown, 2019. Through that worker compensation act can affect to
decision-making process of HR. This will help to motivate the employee towards give hard
contribution to improve productivity of organization.

Employee relations management is affect to decision-making process of company
because in that management need to hide some message from employees (Nankervis and et.al.,
2019). On the other side, legislation also affect the decision-making process of HR because in
that management need to take decision as per laws and regulations in effective manner.
