INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is a procedure of employing workers, training them,
developing policies & strategies, compensating applicants and creating effective tactics that help
to retain and attract people towards specific job role within a company. The current study will be
based on ASDA, which falls under list of well known supermarket brands in the world. This
assignment will explain functions and purpose of HRM, applicable to resourcing and workforce
planning within firm. It will define key strengths & weaknesses of varied methods in context of
selection and recruitment and will also describe benefits of human resource management
practices within chosen company for employee and employer. Furthermore, this report will
justify effectiveness of several HRM activities in term of increasing productivity and profits of
business. It will clarify significant of employee relations in respect to influence decision making
of human resource manager. Moreover, this study explains important elements of employment
legislation and its affect upon judgement of HRM and it will also illustrate application of
practices that will conduct by human resource administration in work relate context.

P1 Explain the purpose and functions of HRM, application to the workforce planning
Purpose-
The main aim of human resource management is to increase the performance and
productivity of ASDA which is quite important to do as it helps permit company to gain
competitive advantages and be competitive for longer period of time while operate venture in
retail industry (Lee and Kim, 2018).
Functions of human resource management-
Selection and recruitment-
This function of HRM is applicable in context of employee resourcing that can conduct
at ASDA Company in effective manner by HR manager. For instance, human resource manage
is accountable to conduct this function which enable them to recruit and select right applicant
who can work productively and systematically in workplace which in return increase
profitability and performance of firm even better more than its business rivals.
Demand forecasting-

This function is relate to workforce planning through which HR manager and team
member forecast demand of organization in regards to workers who have appropriate skills and
knowledge. It is a procedure of planning skilled teams of staff members who can work better and
contribute in gaining competitive edge. It helps to forecast further as well as current needs of
firm for talented people place at specific job role.
Training & development-
Human resource management along with above functions conduct this one as well within
chosen brand in order to increase performance and productive nature of each staff member
which is quite beneficial for company in term of increase its productivity and profitability as
well.
P2, M2 & D1 Strength and weakness of different approaches of recruitment and selection
Recruitment process refers with the process of potential applicants are searched for and
encouraged to apply for an actual vacancy. On the other side selection is the process of hiring
employees among shortlisted candidate and providing them job within the organization in
effective manner. This creates more effectiveness for business in order to select best candidate
for company. There are different types of recruitment and selection approaches which are as
follows:
Internal recruitment:
Promotion: promotion is the internal methods of recruitment where ASDA company fill the
vacant post by promoting employees one post to another post (Ahammad, Glaister and Gomes,
2020). It has strength ad weakness which are as follows:

With the help of promotion recruitment,
company's training cost is reduced because
employee have idea about work. This reduces
the chances mistakes.
This can create issue between employees
because they can feel jealousy with another
one who are promoted at workplace.
Transfer: In this process employees have to do same work but one the another branch of
department of organization (Boon, Den Hartog and Lepak, 2019). Strength and weakness of that
are as follows:
