INTRODUCTION
Human resource management defines to the process of strategic tool that helps in managing and
maintaining the people within the organisation so that they help in gaining the competitive advantage for
the business enterprise. It helps in maximize the performance of employees to grow and reach the
strategic goals. In this recruitment and hiring method is a significant process that is provide the skilled
workforce for the company by hiring the best and suitable candidate for the job role. The information is
based on the Sainsbury’s that is one of the largest supermarket chain in the UK and deals in the various
products range like groceries, clothing, baby products, home wares etc. this project involves the function
and scope of the HRM within the business venture that helps in accomplishing the desired goal in the
organisation. It also shows the recruitment and selection process with their advantage and disadvantage
related to the firm. Further it involves the elements of the HRM practices to raise profits and revenues and
that benefits the employee and employer of the company. It also involves the factors that is based on
internal and external terms that helps in taking the effective decision making for the organization so that it
gives the positive outcome to the task. At last it shows the application of HRM practices includes
example of advert the role, job description and offer letter. This shows for what position HR can hire the
candidate that helps in accomplishing the goal on the desired time period(Swider, Zimmerman and
Barrick, 2015).

It refers to that strategic approach that showcases the effective management within the
organisation that helps in gaining the advantage of beating the rival firms in the business environment and
sustainable growth in the marketplace. They also help in managing the workforce so that they work with
productivity and proficiency. The main intention of this is to maintain and organize the relationship
between employees and manager and also engage the employees for good work so that turnover of the
staff members is reducing. With background of Sainsbury’s it includes different functions of the HRM
that can be shown below(Humburg and Van der Velden, 2015).
Functions of HRM applicable to workforce planning
Workforce planning

It refers to the process of forecasting, analyzing, assessing and determine the talent that was
present in the company and also ensure that they place on the right position, with right skills and the right
time that achieve the organisational goals. it involves various functions of HRM that is related to labor
force planning.
Performance appraisal – It defines to the reviewing the employees performance on the regular
basis so that they contribute in achieving the overall objectives of the firm. in context of the
Sainsbury’s manager it helps in motivating the employees by using promotional technique if they
work better and it also helps in influencing and encouraging the workforce to do a plan to
increase their productivity of the work and enhance the profits for the company. in this the HR
manager can communicate with their subordinates so they understand the skills and also create a
trust with is more important to complete the task and earns a high quantity of profits(Hawranik
and Pangman, 2016).
o Purpose – The main purpose of the performance appraisal is that it helps the manger to
evaluate the overall performance and know the employees strength and weakness to
complete the task.
Training and development – this factor suggest that function of the HRM which helps in
improving the present and future performance by enhancing their skills and ability of learning
things that is related to their job positions. it also helps in showing the learning growth of an
individual person that helps in achieving the task. With the reference of Sainsbury’s, it is very
essential for the manager to provide timely training and development sessions for their employees
according to their learning ability so that the task can be done in an appropriate manner(Kaur,
2015).
o Purpose - The main purpose of training and development is to enhance the knowledge of
the workforce in the working environment so that they the work can be done in an
successful and capable mode.

available in the organization. with the references of the Sainsbury’s it discovers the various source from
where the manager of the firm can hire a skillful candidates for filling the job position so that they fulfills
