INTRODUCTION
Human resources are valuable part of any organization who helps them to achieve
success by attaining their goals and objectives (Al-Qudah, Obeidat, and Shrouf, 2020). In order
to attain there objectives and organization is required to create an effective organizational design
and structure which will help them to manage their human resources and other strategies.
Amazon is a large multinational company deals and several types of technology having their
focus on cloud computing artificial intelligence in commerce and digital streaming. The
company is considered as the most valuable brand of the world and was established in 1994. In
the beginning Amazon started as an online platform for book lovers but further they expand their
business by selling video games, software, electronics, apparels and many more. The company
has achieved a great success in past few years and this report helps to understand the value and
contribution of human resources and the success of Amazon this report contains the importance
of organizational design theory used in an organization for their organizational structure for the
purpose of fulfilling their strategies. Further this report also contains several approaches and
techniques contemporary knowledge used by an organization to attract maintain develop and
promote their human resources and the response for organizational design towards the adaptation
of changes in the organization.

Organizational Design as an historical concept.
Organization design generally means to plan the various operations and structure of an
organization for achieving its success. Understanding the concept of organization design it is
essential to understand what the organization is (Armstrong, and Taylor, 2020). An organization
is nothing but a formal structure of relationships, authorities and responsibilities with the help of
which an organization is able to achieve their particular goal or objective. In order to form an
organization it is essential to have a particular goal or objective to be achieved with the

organization. In order to form an organization it is essential for an individual or group of
individuals to decide the design of the organization which helps to define the structure as well as
functions of various people connected with the organization. An organization structure is nothing
but a process to form a relationship between system operating process jobs and people who are
giving their best efforts to achieve the goals and objectives set by the organization. With the
increased competition in the market it became essential for an organization to design the
functions of the organizations effectively (Brewster, and Haak-Saheem, 2020). The main
difference between organizational structure and organization design is that the organizational
structure is only a distribution of lines and boxes defining the organizational chart where has an
organizational design is much more than it because it helps an organization to identify the needs
and wants of the company and analyses the gab of their current state and the future state.
Contemporary OD
In order to consider a large organization like Amazon there are generally three types of
organizational structure that are considered for attaining their strategic objectives. These
organizational structures are functional structure divisional structure and matrix structure.
Amazon is a large organization and required to focus on both functions as well as product
simultaneously use matrix structure in their organization. Use of this structure in Amazon does
not help only help them to attaining the work with the help of employees but also provide them
an advantage to focus on functions. The main advantage of using matrix structure is is that with
the help of this Amazon is able to make effective use of their resources as it is beneficial for both
horizontal as well as vertical communication process in the organization which reduces the
difficulties of cooperation and coordination (Dodokh, 2020).
The impact of the external business environment on Organizational Design.
External market has a great impact on the environment of Amazon. Among all the external
environment factors the Amazon Company is generally affected by their competitors in the
market and the legal and political situation of the country. Apart from this as the company deals
in e-commerce business the technological factors of the market can also have a great impact on
the business environment. Hence, with the impact of external business environment the
organization, they can be required to change their design for making themselves suitable to
survive in the external business environment (Erkmen, Günsel, and Altındağ, 2020).
