Introduction-
In this report, operations and management of organization is assessed. Team leader and manager
of company are responsible for management of company. Their role and duties are discussed in
this report. Various theories, models and approaches are used to deal with different situations.
Management of Tesco is discussed in this report. It is multinational company based in UK. Its
headquarter is in Welwyn garden city, England. This company was founded by Jack Cohen in
1919. Company offers grocery products and it is general merchandise retailer. Company
expanded globally since 1990. Company is operating in 11 other countries in the world. It has
almost 7000 shops. CEO of the company is Ken Mruphy. It has different brands such as John’s,
F&F, Booker, Makro and Premier. Revenue of company is £64.76 Billion and net income is
0.973 Billion. It has approx 425000 employees.
P1 Define and compare different role and characteristics of leader and
manager-
Manager and leader are two different personalities in the organization. Leadership in
organization is defined as influencing employees to put efforts in order to meet objectives of
company. To make leadership effective leader needs to inspire thinking, attitude and behavior of
people. Leadership is the way that influence employee to make something extraordinary happen.
Main factors included in leadership are-
Focus on achieving objectives
Motivating people to achieve those objectives.
Prioritization of objectives so that organization can efficiently achieve its aims.
Main aim of team leader is to manage conflicts among employees, proper communication with
employees and problem solving nature in order make work efficient.
Characteristics of leader-
Following are the characteristics of a leader-
Followers are required in leadership. Team members of group must follow the team
leader.
Main aim of team leader is to achieve objectives or aims of organization.

Team leader has power to make changes without asking anyone in order to make work
efficient.
It is related to continuous process.
Team leader cannot force team member by force. He needs to influence people willingly.
Role of leader in organization-
Leader is vision provider. He needs to make employees understand about objectives of
organization. If team members know their vision and objectives then it is easy for every
individual to understand their role and drives business to success.
Leader has to be an effective role model. If leader shows anger, making wrong decisions
and showing partiality then it is considered as failed team.
Leader should inspire or motivate people to achieve a common aim.
Leader is responsible for time management. If leader always comes up with problems
related to time. It means leader is not working effectively
Manager in organization-
Main aim or management in organization is to getting the things done. Managers of business
organize human and physical resources in such a way so that objectives can meet within
specified time. Manager gives direction the activity of others. Managers work to manage all the
work at different levels. Levels of different managers have different managers such as first line
managers are known as supervisor on the other hand manager of manufacturing company is
known as foreman.
Characteristics of manager-
An effective leadership style is necessary to be an effective manager.
Experience is very important. Professional working environment experience is mandatory
to get the work done efficiently.
Effective manager always communicate with team members. It does not only mean
communicating about job responsibilities but also listening and working with team in
order to give proper results.
