INTRODUCTION Operation management refers to the administration of business practices to createproductivity and efficiency among all employees as well management. This is a process ofconverting material and labour into finished goods and services in order to achieveprofitability for the firms. Leaders and managers are the two key people of the operationdepartment. They both are contributing their effort to carry out smooth operation activitieswithin a workplace. TESCO are working in a retail industry. They have run their businessactivities across Asia and Europe with almost 2500 store in 12 countries. TESCO is a Britishmultination retailer and headquarter are located in Welwyn Garden city, UK. In this reportexplain the role of leaders and managers apply in a different situation and Define appropriateleadership approaches use by TESCO. Identify some key approach of operation managementand their importance in order to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Brandenburg,M. and et. al., 2014). Organisation environmental factors are creating an impact onoperational management and decision making the process of leaders as well managers. TASK 1 P1 Explain the role of a leader and function of a manager Leaders: Leaders are motivating employees and team member to act towardachieving predetermine common goals and objectives. They influence other peoplebehaviours and good communication skills to inspire employees toward productivity of work.Manager: Manager is a person who directing, controlling, managing, planning of anorganization work. They have a responsibility toward firm performance. Leaders arecontrolling and manipulating organization resources and expenditures. Three types ofmanager top, middle and lower level managers are working with in the company. Theyarerepresentative of thecompanies in front ofnot only customersbut also employees.Leaders represent inseminars, generalmeeting, conferencesetc (Hristov and et.al., 2013).LeadersareLeaders are flexiblein their nature so thatthey have done theirwork effectivelybecause not the wholething goes as planned.They are goodcommunicator so thatthey have inspiredother employees within an organisation toincrease productivityand profitability. Through thisthey have makefriendship with theirteam members andprovide guidance tothem.They have integratedtheir goals with firm’sgoals and objectives.task alone andtenacity to work inpressure.Leadersareresponsible towardtheir work. They have humilityand presence. MANAGERSManager recruitingand selecting newemployees accordingto firm needs andwants.They have provedtraining to new andexisting employeesfor enhance theirprofessional skillsand knowledge. They deal withemployee’sperformance andprovide coaching todeveloptheirperformance. They solve conflictsamong employees &management andprovide help indecision making.They evaluatingemployee’sperformance on thecontinuous bases. Managerhastranslatingorganisation goals toindividual goal.Manager track andreport scorecardresult to theirManagers haveleadership quality.They motivating theirteam members.
