INTRODUCTION
The term management and operations is explained as a process of managing and
controlling the business practices related with operational activities. Organisation offer different
product and services to the customers for assist the effectual management and operations and this
results towards maximise of company efficiency and profits. The selected organisation for this
report is Corus Group Plc. which performs function and operations in the steel industry.
Moreover, this report highlights on roles and characteristic of manager and leader along with this
their role in different situations (Al-Nady and et. al., 2016). The report will also focus on theories
of leadership to explain the ways related with leader and manager. Along with this report will
also discuss the role of operation manager to improve organisation efficiency. Key approaches of
the operations management and the importance and value of operation management to
accomplish business objectives will also learned from this report.

Within an organisation there are different situations exists and same as in Corus Group
the leadership and management style both perform an important role within this situations.
Therefore, explanation of both roles is mention as below:
FIRST SITUATION- To improve the goodwill and brand image
Role of management
To increase the goodwill management focus to implement unique and creative methods
for promote Corus Group operations (Cortés, Rodríguez and Franco, 2019). This defines
that increase in the sale products through appropriate and ethical perspective aid
individual for completion of their work in proper manner.
Management provide and arrange training sessions for the engaged workforce and this
helps persons for complete of their work with less impacting on the brand image of Corus
organisation.

To enhance or improve the brand image and goodwill this is important for leaders to
complete all task in a unique manner which helps to gain competitive-edge in market.
Brand image of the organisation is improved through induce update and latest
technology factors related with business. Moreover, leadership helps to motivate
workforce through improving the quality of business operations and functions.
In the context of improving goodwill, this is understood that systematic leadership style
is adopted by leader. This results overall business operations productivity is improved
though improve the overall brand image of organisation.
SECOND SITUATION- Minimise the ratio of workforce turnover
Workforce is considered as one of the most important asset for Corus Group and other
organisation. This aids management for decide overall growth perspectives related with future
that helps authorities for obtain success (Creţoiu, 2019). Therefore, this is important for the
business to reduce their workforce turnover ratio because it keeps retain skilled and capable
workforce among the organisation. Leader and manager perform various functions and most of
them are considered towards betterment of workforce and enterprise. Some roles performed by
both authorities to control employee turnover ratio is mention as below:
Role of leadership
The primary purpose of leader is to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of an
organisation and for this retain of skilled and capable workforce is one of the most
important perspective which helps to complete all work with high or decided
productivity. This determines training and learning programmes is induced by the leader
and it helps for completion of task in a proper manner. Along with leaders maintain
healthy environment to retain the skilled workforce for completion of task with decided
situation and it helps for deal in proper manner.
Role of Management
The main role of management is to generate effective strategies and plans which are
focused towards improve the overall workforce by providing rewards, compensation,
incentive, salary, etc. to raise the standard of living (De Boer and Andersen, 2019). This
