INTRODUCTION
Leadership is the process of guiding the organization employees towards particular
direction for achievement of firm’s goals and objectives. This is a relationship between
leaders and subordinate where they both work in combination with full coordination for
achievement of firm’s goals as well as individual goals. Leader always works in direction
where it provides aim, vision and strategies to it followers for achievement of particular
target in limited or specified time period. In this report Corinthia hotel London is chosen, this
hotel is serving in London from last 100 years, even before time of world war one, this hotel
is known for its long presence and contribution to nation, its services are also amazing which
give customer joy of trip. In this report the role of leadership and managing will be identified
that, what are the ways and methods which can be used in hotel for improving its
performance and maximising the profits with concept of growth and
development( Armstrong, 2016).
TASK1
P1 Classic management theories
These are those theories which are given by different authors but there main aim is
that employees have only economical needs which have to satisfied by origination, they
stated that social needs can be ignored or can eliminated as they have no major impact on
employees performance. There are three theory’s which are stated below in context of
hospitality firm Corinthia hotel –
Scientific management theory: This theory was propounded by Frederick Winslow Taylor,
here he focused on incising labour productivity by using some scientific methods which are
related to human behaviour like working hours and many more (Bush and Glover, 2016).
This theory was first implemented on steel industry where the Taylor is working but in
modern days it can be use of hospitality firm also, so Corinthia hotel is using this as the way
to lead its people and can influence all for managing their work this can also help firm in
increasing the productivity of its employees which facilitate them more success in there
operations.
Bureaucratic management theory: This theory is described by max weber who is
sociologist. According to him origination must have a rigid and tighten structure, where there

is huge rules and regulations which have to be fully followed by every worker of firm , this
can be used by Corinthia hotel as lading there staff according to rules and regulation which
will aid it in managing effective monitoring and control over the firm.
Administrative management theory: This is the first and single theory which is related to
administration and this was given by Henry Fayol “the father of modern management”. This
theory stated that there must be coordination in efforts of origination all work is done in
group task not individually. This there can be used by managing of Corinthia hotel staff as
motivating them to work in group efforts. It also use by firm leader to provide best services to
guests by using all staff together (Bush, Bel and Middlewood, 2019).
P2 Roles of leader and styles of leadership
Roles of leader
Leader is important Part of origination this is because they play an important role in
origination success and achievement of firm goals. Some of roles of leader are discussed
below:
Coach: In Corinthia Hotel there leader play the role of coach as it guide the employee
that what they have to do in firm and what are there related work and hoe to deal with
particular situation these all are the work of coach.
Facilitator: This is also a role of leader to make things familiar to employees. In
context of Corinthia hotel leader take number of group meetings formally or informally to
make work simple as simple it can. This will facilitate in employees motivation and will lead
to increase in productivity of firm.
Leadership styles
There are number of leadership styles which can be used to guide workers of in
direction of firm’s goals and targets. Some of the leadership styles are stated below:
Democratic leadership style: this is that style where the leader takes suggestions of its
employees seriously for guiding them. Here flow of authority is democratic where every
employee gets equal chance. This style has major importance in boost motivation of
employees and guiding them with high level of understanding in firm. This is style can be
used by Corinthia hotel in for bringing motivation to work and improve participation of

employees in origination management which will also facilitate in bringing effectiveness in
work and can guide firm in direction of firm goals (Willis, Clarke and O'Connor, 2017).
Autocratic leadership style: In this firm leader remains all authority in his hands where
employees just have to work according to instruction of leader. Here this is the leadership
where workers have no right to suggestions what they are thinking and willing to work. Here
there are no relations between leader and assistants. This style can be practice by Corinthia
hotel for managing effective control in firm. It facilitate firm in using its structure which
bring effectiveness in task and help in managing tasks on time.
P3 Review of management and leadership styles
Management is the best part of functioning of firms specially those which are serving
in hospitality or service industry. Corinthia hotel have to make positive decisions regarding
the all related to management techniques which it is going to choose , here the best technique
is scientific management theory which can help firm in getting work done by increasing
productivity of employees and facilitate more working (Renz, 2016).
There are number of leadership styles in management which can be used by Corinthia
hotel but here because of nature od service industry it is important to motivate employees for
reducing employees turnover ratio so firm have to use demographic leadership style in its
working this will boost morale of employees and will lead in increase of worker confidence
to work in firm more effectively for achievement of firms objectives and gaols.

P4 Investigate the internal and external factors that influence management styles and
structures
For external environment we will use PESTLE
Political: these are those impacts which this hotel is facing from its formation . For example wars,
terrorism and change in political party which change polices of nation and hotel have tio make
changes in its policies according to government.
Economic: Hotels have direct impact of this as changing exchange rates and down in economic
condition reduced the market of hotel and down its customers in long run (Hallinger, 2018).

Social: change in culture , trend , etc., have their major impact on Corinthia hotel as these help
hotel in growing more and expand its operation according to trend in market.
Technical: regular updating in technology is the policy of Corinthia hotel so it have no major
impact of this facto and can deal it without interruption.
Environmental: these are those which are related to environment cause like pollution, etc. this can
damage the marketed of firma if they are not considered.

P5 Management and leadership ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ skills
There are two types of skills which a manager possess while working in firm both
type of skills are required for smooth flow of work (Rothaermel, 2016).
Hard skills of manager or leader
These are those type of skills which are not come directly by birth or with
experience . These have to be learned by leader/manager for development of its personality
Proficiency in language: A leader must have mastery in the language which firm is
using in its working or of client nations. This will help him in communicating more
effectively and understanding needs of employee as well customers.
A degree or certificate: leader/ manager must have proof of its education it means it
has to be graduated from recognized institute.

Machine operation: a skilled manager / leader must know how operate different
software which company is using in its system and machines which are also important
part of firm operations.
Soft skills on manager or leader
Soft skills are those which are natural and are come with experience or by birth in
nature of human being. Some of these are stated below:
Communication: this is most important skill of every leader in current times this is
because there are number of employees who are working in organization from
different culture with different ability to understand and it is responsibility of manager
to communicate with them effectively.
Problem solving ability: there are number of problems which arise while functioning
of firm. Manager must have this skill to identify, understand and react on that problem
for its reduction.
Time management: time management is also a soft skill of a manager to manage
time according to task and motivate employees for this.
Flexibility: flexibility is also important inn performing task for firm and mange
should possess this as its skill for bringing productivity and smoothness in work of
firm.
P6 Skills of management and leadership which are required in future
There are number of skills which a manager have to develop in future for improving
performance and bring productivity in firm in near future this is the best skill which a firm
required in its employees. Some of the skills which are required by Corinthia hotel in there
manger and leader are mentioned below:
Diverse team management: In near future this will also become part of skills which
are required by manager. This is because making team which includes the people
which are related to difficult function and combining there efforts to particular
direction for achievement of goals is a difficult task and not everyone can perform so
this is responsibility of every individual for develop this skill (Haile, Emmanuel and
Dzathor, 2016).

P7 change management systems and leadership in implementing change
Change management system is that framework which is used by manager for
implementing change in firm and use different methods of change for successfully change of
firm culture, structure and functioning. These is done on several basis and depend upon
manager ability that how it can coordinate in this change management process (Cherryand
Jacob, 2016).
Corinthia hotel Claridges Hotels
In this hotel leaders are more innovative and
use the method of Lewin's change
management model. This method have three
stages to implement change in there
origination which are freezing, implementing
and unfreezing.
This is also a hotel which is situated in
London and act as a competitor to firm. Here,
for change management Kotter’s theory is
used. This includes establish a sense of
urgency, create a guiding coalition, develop a
vision and strategy, communicate the change
vision, empower broad-based action,
generate short-term wins, consolidate gains
to produce more change.

From the above observation it can be concluded that firm have to use leadership and
management for development of origination. This will also help service firm in getting
advantage of motivation in employees as well as achievement of firm’s goals. This will also
increase productivity in firm and facilitate change management smoothly.
