PART 1
INTRODUCTION
Food and beverage industry is a service industry in which restaurants, cafeterias, cafés,
fast-food joints, pubs, catering businesses, food transportation services etc. comes under it. This
industry focuses upon the provision of different kinds of food and beverages items to the
customers (Long, Looijen and Blok, 2018). This assignment will lay emphasis upon different
types of businesses within the food and beverage industry, different rating systems, current and
future trends, ways that different food and beverage operations use technology to improve
operational efficiency, factors that influence the consumers’ decision on which food and
beverage outlets they choose and strategies used in a range of food and beverage outlets to attract
and build a loyal customer base. This report will focus upon Frankie & Benny, which is an
Italian-American-themed restaurant in the United Kingdom that was founded in 1995 whose
headquarter is in London, UK.

Different types of businesses within the food and beverage industry
There are many different kinds of businesses within the food and beverage industry. Each
business provides different kinds of food and beverages products and service to its customers.
Some of the main types of businesses within this industry are as follows:
Full- service restaurants: There is a type of restaurants where customers sit down, and food is
served directly to customers table (Bayona-Saez and et al., 2017). They can serve alcoholic/ non-
alcoholic beverages, delivery at table or takeout as well. There are two main types of full- service
restaurants: Fine dining and casual dining. Fine dining restaurant has a formal atmosphere and is
always a sit- down restaurant. Most of them have a dress code as well. Whereas casual service
restaurants that have a market segment between fast-food establishments and fine-dining
restaurants.
For example, Winter garden restaurant is a fine dining restaurant that has a British/Mediterranean
menu in the glass-roofed atrium of an elegant hotel.
