ITSU1005 - Design & Create Organisational Documentations
1. Introduction
Self-assessment refers to the process of looking at oneself for assessing the important aspects of
personality and identity (Assiter 2017, p.41). The motive of self-assessment is self-evaluation, self-
verification for enhancement of personality. It is important for a person to provide insight into his/her
true comprehension so that the person can identify the gaps in knowledge and understanding (Solomon
et al. 2015, p.180). This following analysis will help to discuss about the qualities of a person like
control on emotions, capability of taking right decision and effective communication with others. This
current report is aiming to develop an analysis of self-assessment based on the results of personality
tests like MBTI test, Emotional Intelligence test and the self assessment test of social styles.

Result of MBTI Test
The first self-assessment tool of personality test applied here in ESFP scale which has been used based
with the help of Myers–Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI. Each of the letters of this tool stands for
different characteristics such as E indicates Extrovert, S for Sensing, F for feeling and P stands for
Perception (Pretz et al. 2014, p.459). In fact, application of this tool has helped me to understand mu
nature whether I am open to all, easy-going or highly practical that I perceive everything through
examining by logic. It is also helpful to understand whether a person has strong feelings and the
quality of sensing others’ position or he/she dominates a situation though judging it from my
perception (Sato 2017, p.5).
As per the result, my four letter combination is PSFE as I have a poor score in E that means I am not at
all extrovert and feel comfort to share my views with others. It also proves that I do not like to mix
with more number of people and fail to communicate with people in spontaneous way. My score is
good in S also that means I am practical and believe more on concrete and real facts rather than
abstract. Moreover, I value personal considerations more than objective criteria as I have a good score
in F or feeling. By best score is in P that proves my patience in decision making as I take
comparatively more time in case of important decision making. This characteristic explores my nature
of critical analysis and inability of quick decision making.
Result of Emotional Intelligence Test
The second tool I have used for self-assessment is Emotional Intelligence Test, which has helped me to
understand my strengths, where I need to put more attention and which is my first priority for character
development. The five key qualities in this tool are self-awareness, managing emotions, motivating
oneself, empathy and social skills (Martin-Raugh et al. 2016, p.46). This tool is helpful to gain
knowledge about the cognitive abilities within me and how far I am able to manage my emotions and
motivate myself for achieving my career goals. In fact, this tool is quite effective to examine the
professionalism in a person (Joseph et al. 2015, p.298). All these characteristics are highly important
for maintaining suitable behavior in workplace.
I have scored lowest in social skills and it belongs to the category of development priority that mean I
cannot influence and other people and make effective communication with them. Three major sections
I need to give more attention are self-awareness, managing emotions and empathy as I have moderate
scores in these sections. This result proves that I have the power of judging my performance and

understanding my own capabilities but I require focusing on these capabilities more. I also need to
achieve the ability of controlling my emotions so that I can react to every circumstance in appropriate
manner. At the same time, I also need to give more attention for understanding the emotions and
desires of other people. My biggest strength is that I can motivate myself at any situation which helps
me to overcome challenges in easier way.
Result of Self-assessment of social styles
Self-assessment of social styles is the third tool I have used for assessing my assertiveness and
responsiveness. This tool helps to determine the analytical power of thinking, feeling and expressing at
the time of communicating with others (Assiter 2017). This test helps to understand whether a person
has the high capabilities of controlling emotions or he/she is highly emotional. Simultaneously, it is
also helpful to measure the power of imagination and thinking in a person.
I have a very poor rating of responsiveness that proves my introvert nature as I cannot respond to
people and their queries especially in critical situation. My score shows that I am analytical and
amiable therefore I cannot make quick reactions, imagine more and not even take decision quickly.
Again my responsive scale also shows that I am not expressive at all rather I am good at analytical
thinking especially in case of decision making. According to this result and standards, I am influenced
by logic rather than emotion but I can feel situations and the demands of others. This result has proven
me having the nature of low assertive and low responsive and these are the major drawbacks of my
character.
Comparison among different characteristics
According to the viewpoint of Gillis et al. (2015, p.16), people with extrovert nature can easily impress
other people as well as represent themselves with utmost confidence. Therefore, these kinds of people
are highly suitable for leading a team or convincing people for getting organized and work in proper
manner. Carl Jung’s theory of introvert and extrovert personalities also supports that, extrovert people
are more involved in world of people; they are more active and have complete awareness about what is
going on around. The entire self-assessment test has helped me to identify my introvert nature and
strong power of analytical thinking rather than open communication with others.
However Codish and Ravid (2014, p.37) have opposed that, extrovert people may impress others
within short period but sometimes they lack enough analytical power for correct decision making. The
author have also added that introvert people have the quality of self analysis and measuring own
capabilities and making decision though critically analysing the situations taking place currently.

As opined by Khalil (2016, p.1535), a poor score in responsiveness indicates the characteristic of an
introvert person who fails to express his/her own feelings even after understanding others.
Additionally, high responsiveness also includes the quality of maintaining proper body language and
speaking with confidence. My result proves that I do not have these qualities of effective
communication with people and express my opinions and beliefs strongly. I also fail to make direct
communication with others due to poor and low assertiveness.
Coombs (2014, p.21) has also supported this point of view that lack of these qualities prevents a
person from communicating with others freely and work as the representative of any bigger project or
initiative. However, the author has added that, these drawbacks restraint a person from being
aggressive that is harmful for managing a situation. Therefore, I feel that I need to enhance my power
of communication and express my feelings where it is necessary but not everywhere. Component
Display Theory of David Merrill has classified learning into two sections- contents and performance.
Cognitive abilities are important especially for performance because here the student requires
presenting his/her knowledge and understanding in front of others. Therefore, maintaining proper body
language, gesture, use of language is important for perfect presentation.
In comparison between empathy and self-awareness, most of the psychologists feel that, basic
consciousness about oneself is necessary for a person in order to understand the feelings of others. As
stated by Carson et al. (2016, p.810), empathy and self-awareness, these two factors are interlinked
with each other. Van Deursen et al. (2015, p.415) have strongly mentioned that empathy is just a
minor part of social skills because social skills are not only about understanding the others but also
responding to their emotions. Therefore, having empathy does not prove to have all the social skills to
maintain healthy relationship with others through eliminating communication gap.
Similar concept has been provided by Collins and Cooper (2014, p.90) that, controlling own emotions
is important for a person to manage the emotion of others. Moreover, controlling emotions is also a
kind of social awareness as well as a part of social skills.
Final outcomes
Application of the three self-assessment tools and further analysis of different scholars have helped me
to develop a concrete knowledge about my skills and capabilities. All these three tests have proved my
introvert nature that I am not capable in communicates with people of my surrounding easily but my
power of thinking is good enough. I have tried to complete the test and its analysis through following
the instructions in proper manner. Additionally, I have made spontaneous answers to the questions and

3. Conclusion
This above report has been developed based on few self-assessment tests and their results for
understanding the basic qualities and characteristics of a person. Three tools have been applied here
including MBTI, Emotional Intelligence and Self-assessment of social styles. The first tool has
explored my introvert nature and capability of taking decision with the help of analytical thinking and
patience. Furthermore, I have realized that I am quite weak in social skills simultaneously I also need
to focus more on self analysis but I have the power to motivate myself. The biggest drawback of my
nature is that I am highly introverted which prevents me from effective communication with people as
well as properly expressing my feelings, believes and opinions. It can be concluded that, I have made
effective usage of the self-assessment tool and successfully identified both the strengths and
weaknesses of my nature.
