This project assessment task requires you to establish, maintain and evaluate a work area WHS
management system for an organisation (real or simulated like woolworths store).
This assessment is divided into 5 parts:
Part A: Establish a WHS management system in a work area
Part B: Establish and maintain effective and compliant participation arrangements for managing
WHS in a work area
Part C: Establish and maintain procedures to identify hazards, assess and control risks in a work
area.
Part D: Evaluate and maintain a work area WHS management system
Part E: Knowledge Questions
You will complete the assessment tasks in a real organisation (your current workplace can be
used ‘Woolworths”). If you are not working, select a workplace / organisation you are familiar
with.
Required
You are required to demonstrate your ability to:
Establish, implement, maintain and evaluate a work health and safety (WHS)
management system for a work area of an organisation in accordance with WHS
legislation including policies, procedures and record keeping
ensure organisational WHS compliance
establish, implement, maintain and evaluate effective and compliant participation
arrangements for managing WHS including identifying duty holders, identifying and
approving the required resources and developing and implementing a training program
establish, implement, maintain and evaluate procedures for effectively identifying
hazards, and assessing and controlling risks using the hierarchy of risk controlprovide
information and complete documentation for a WHS management system
identify requirements for and request expert WHS advice.

Task 2 – Performance and Skills Assessment
You are required to select an organisation in order to complete this assessment. An organisation can be a
business, charity, association, not-for-profit enterprise or government body.
You may select your own organisation (for example, your own business or one you plan to start); an
organisation you have access to, such as a business owned by a friend or family; or your current employer.
Alternatively, you can create a hypothetical organisation for the purpose of this assessment.
Prior to commencing this assessment task, you must discuss your chosen organisation with your trainer.
Part A: Establish a WHS management system in a work area
This task will require you to locate and identify relevant information to establish a WHS management
system for your chosen organisation / workplace. To achieve this, complete the following:
1. Does your chosen organisation have a WHS (Work Health and Safety) policy in place? If so, locate it
and attach it to this workbook. (If you are basing this assessment on a hypothetical organisation,
please use the WHS policy in Appendix A).
2. Describe personnel’s duties and responsibilities in relation to the WHS policy at your chosen
organisation.
3. What are your organisation’s financial and human resources required by the WHS policy in place?

WHS policy: The management of the Woolworth store has developed safe
working hour policy under which the employees get considerable
time for their meal and other leisure activities.

Personnel’s duties and
responsibilities:
The management of the Woolworth has provide proper training and development to
their employees so that they can act in the organisation safely. There are many health
measure are developed by the management of Woolworth which the employees has to
follow.
Financial Resources: The requirement for finance is very high in the management of
Woolworth to achieve their health and safety measures. The
management of the organisation satisfy this need from their sale
operations.
Human Resources: The human resource department of the Woolworth are always
try to employee the talented employees in their organisation and
provide them proper training.
Part B: Establish and maintain effective and compliant participation arrangements for managing WHS in
a work area
This task will require you to engage in consultation in order to establish and maintain participation
arrangements for a WHS management system for your chosen organisation / workplace. To achieve this,
complete the following:
1. Prepare an email 150 – 250 words to send to relevant stakeholders inviting them to a meeting in
relation to workplace health and safety issues. In your email, make sure you cover the following:
The purpose of the meeting
The importance of effective consultation
The time and place for the meeting
Your contact details for any questions

The main reason for this email is to inform you about the meeting which will held in the conference room
of the office. You all are invited in the meeting so that each one can provide their recommendation for the positive cause of
our organisation. The main topic which is required to be discussed in the meeting is workplace health and safety issues. As
you all know that the awareness about the health and security in the workplace are increased day by day and the
government of the respected country has to developed many new and innovative rules and regulations in relation to the
health and safety in the workplace. It is essential for us to make considerable changes in our policies so that it can be
matched with the legal rules. It is very important that all of you join the meeting and provide their suggestion so that we can
