ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE AND DEVELOPMENT 3
Introduction
Change in an organization's operational methods, strategies and structure are necessary to
ensure business sustainability (Burke, 2017). Being a part-time employee in one of Woolworth
local branches I recently experienced organizational change. The entire organization engaged in
a change management process where all branches were supposed to be key to ensuring that
changes were instituted in the entire organization. The paper provides a detailed analysis of the
organizational change that took place at Woolworths Company.
Introduction and background to the change
Woolworths Limited is regarded as one of the most trusted and renowned brands and has
different branches all over Australia as well as different parts of the world. Like other retail
chains in the country, it provides people with part-time employment opportunities and this
explains how I had been able to secure part-time employment in the company while studying. Or
branch was expected to adopt the overall company strategies that would improve customer
experience. The retailer delivers retail services, financial services and liquor business. It blends
the changes in the business environment hence the need to constantly change according to the
tastes and preferences of the customers.
The management of the retail chain whether in the branch where I was working or in the
head office believes that decisions concerning shopping behaviour and customers must
dynamically change. The company operates in the retail industry. Failure to devise new
strategies and implement a change management process constantly in the retail industry may
erode the competitive edge of an organization hence jeopardizing its ability to achieve its
strategic goals and objectives (Cameron & Green, 2015). The company was wanted to become
more innovative.
