P 1.1 research and evaluate suitable organisations that could provide industry experience
To choose suitable organization for gaining work based experience, it is important to identify the
growing sector that could provide better industry experience in present and future. Reason for
choosing hospitality sector is that it is one of the fastest growing sectors and provides large
number of employment opportunities varied from lower level to top management (Jaworski and
Kohli, 2017). After conducting research I have chosen Hotel Hilton as well as Hotel Premiere
Inn for placement purpose.
Hotel Hilton
Location: London
Role: Corporate security officer
Working hours: 9 hours
Pay Scale: £ 3000 per month
Hotel Premiere Inn
Location: London
Role: Corporate security officer
Working hours: 12 hours

Both the organizations operate with wide range of operations and services and provide
professional development because of their international presence. Hospitality sector exist with
wide range of areas to gain the industry experience in an appropriate manner.
Room Management: It is the area which provides supportive information related to management
of room occupancy as well as capacity of revenue generation. This is one of the most challenging
tasks for managers and hotel executives to manage the room occupancy so that maximum of
revenue can be generated.
2
Document Page
Security Management: Hospitality sector is customer oriented industry and therefore it is
important for management to ensure the security and safety of customers on priority (Peltier,
2016). Security management must focus on installation of alarms to check the availability of
unethical tools like guns, high security checking equipment, cameras, etc. to avoid any of the
attacks that possibly harm customers and puts negative image on brand in market.
Human Resource Management: Need of human resource management is essential as it has high
focus on maintaining the cultural environment of workplace to maintain the efficiency of
productivity. Both the hotels provide learning experience in context to office handling, concierge
services, reservation management, etc.
Marketing management: This area of hotel industry is responsible for conducting marketing
activities to make customers about their products and services to generate more revenue and
profitability. This provides experience of developing appropriate strategies for business
promotion.
From the above analysis, appropriate job for getting work based experience will be Corportae

P 1.3 Recognise the business constraints on the work experience offered
Business Constraints are considered as limitations that influence organization and restrict it to
achieve organizational goals and objectives. Some of the constraints experienced by Hotel Hilton
that affects the business activities in hospitality sector are as follows:
Customer Satisfaction: Hospitality industry is customer centric and therefore it is essential for
management of the organization to identify the needs of customers so that performance of
employees can improvise. This could be one of the major learning experiences on how to handle
customers which will support attaining goals and objectives.
Identification of competition: Strong competitors are the major business constraint and therefore
employees must learn to identify the strategies adopted by competitors so that better strategies
can be developed by the organization to gain better position in the market (Fida et.al.2015).
Employees must focus on conducting research for identifying competitors. Therefore it is
important to implement modern security equipment to ensure the higher security of customers.
Limited Staffing: This is also one of the issues that is experienced by hotel industry. Business in
hospitality sector depends on seasonal changes. At the time of peak season, the organization
faced issues in dealing with customers because of limited number of employees. Hiring of
employees related to security is also the barrier because of budget constraint.
Work Load: Culture of hotel industry is generally pressurised and stressful. Hotel Hilton is one
of the leading hotel organizations that provide accommodation services at large scale. This will
lead to increase the work pressure that is experienced by employees of the organization. Limited
number of security staff lead to increase the work pressure.
All the above business constraints can be overcome with the support of learning experience
which will further help to gain better opportunities in future.

P 3.1 fulfil specified requirements of placement conforming to all related codes of practice
It is important for various organizations to fulfil the regulatory requirements related to placement
whether it is permanent placement or internship. Hotel Hilton ensures that interns as well as
management follow strict code of practices while undertaking internship. Organization must not
make any kind of discrimination for selecting for some particular position in terms of gender,
physical inability and caste (Shapiro and Stefkovich, 2016). Security Officer is responsible for
ensuring the security of customers arriving in hotel. Equality Acts must be followed by the
management to eliminate discriminatory practices at the workplace.
In addition to this health and safety of employees while working must be on priority. Managers
in the organization must ensure that appropriate safety equipment like fire extinguishers, etc. are
equipped at the workplace so that accidental situations can be met in an effective manner. Health
insurances and accidental claims are some of the measures that are to be focused upon.
As per the legislations made by government, strict working hours of an individual at the time of
internship is 8Hours with relaxation of half hours in critical situations (Baird, 2015). Interns must
ensure to inform to their immediate supervisors to maintain the discipline in context to
internship. It is the responsibility of management to pay employees as per their abilities but as
per the laws Hotel Hilton is not liable to pay to interns. However for their betterment the
organization provides stipend which may vary as per the situations. It also provides food as well
as transportation facilities.
Therefore, all the resources in Hotel Hilton must perform their tasks and activities as per the laws
and various regulations set by the government. There are also some set policies of organization
that must be followed by organizations so as to put positive impact on individuals who tend to
take training with the organization in future.

P 3.3 revise the initial plan as required
Overall plan of work experience carries wide range of tasks and activities that are necessary to be
carried out for achieving organizational goals and objectives. As per the previous plan various
tasks were given different priority and as that time for each task can be set accordingly. It is
important to review the plan before implementation so as to increase the overall productivity of
the organization (Johnson, 2016). Previous Work plan is based on ensuring the security of
employees and guests. Priority as well as timing of internship must be changed because of
festive work load.
Working hours must be revised from 9AM-6PM to 9AM-7 PM for minimum 20 days to take
care of customer’s at large scale. Extra working hours will support Hotel Hilton to manage he
needs of more number of customers in an efficient manner. Increased responsibilities will
support an intern to deal with international clients and business partners as well. Training
sessions must be on priority so that clients can be handled with more efficiency. This revised
time may lead interns to earn some extra benefits in terms of incentives.
Another revision must be in terms of enhancement of skills to meet the urgent business
requirements. Time duration for development of skills must be decreased by practicing and
training and development sessions. Communication skills can be improved by continuous
communicating with team members and other employees as well as by participating in group
discussions (Kolb, 2014). Technical skills can be improved by undertaking training sessions with
the support of senior managers in the organization.

Therefore, to handle large number of customers, it is important to have large number of

3.4 Make suggestions for improvement and review these with appropriate supervisor
Hotel Hilton operates and generates revenue because of its positive brand image in the market. It
has also acquired competitive position as compared to its competitors however there exist some
areas with the scope of improvements. Hotel Industry deals with customers from various origins
and therefore employees to gain future opportunity in security area must focus on learning
measures to focus on security of customers. This will help customers to develop long term
relationship with hotel as they will experience high level of customer satisfaction.
Hotel Hilton is well known brand because of its quality services, however large number of
population is unaware about its services and brand name. To overcome the negative aspect of
unawareness, it must focus on digital marketing rather than traditional means of marketing. It is
necessary to adopt aggressive marketing strategies using social media to make people aware
about its luxurious services and products available at affordable prices for all class of people in
the society (Buchanan and McCalman, 2018). One of the ways to market its product is using
short term tactics such as discounts on accommodation services along with the facility of lunch
or breakfast to increase the overall business sales. It will also support to hold the competitive
position in the market.
Frequency of customer loyalty programs must be increases so that customer retention can be
focused upon. Hotel Hilton is a big brand and for long term sustainability in the hospitality
sector, innovation is one of the most prioritised elements to be considered. These are few of the
suggestions that are to be implemented by the organization.

P 4.2 evaluate the quality of own performance
In the entire duration of internship before being appointed as corporate security officer in Hotel
Hilton, I am able to identify the potential of my own performance by evaluation the quality of
work. During my probation period, I regularly observed the performance of my senior managers
that have worked hard and smart to achieve organizational objectives (Schechner, 2017). They
have also set certain target standards so that tasks can be accomplished with higher efficiency
and on time. With the raised level of performance in terms of security of customers and
employees I observed that I have pushed myself to the position that helped me to achieve desired
goals.
With the changes in demand of customers and working culture of an organization, I was able to
modify my working style. Changing working style help me to develop analytical skills that
further helped me to identify issues encountered in procedures that resist imparting security of
customers. Analytical skills supported me to identify the issues that are faced by customers with
regards to security. Along with the development of skills, my hard work and knowledge gaining
was appreciated by my managers during my apprenticeship. They highly appraised me for the
leadership skills that helped me to get the work done by other team members.

P 4.3 analyse the learning which has taken place during the work experience using suitable
reflections
Working with big brand like Hotel Hilton helped me to learn new concepts of security which I
was unaware of before my training process. Entire training process not only helped me to
develop my professional skills but also open path for new career opportunities in future.
Hospitality sector is a wide sector equipped with lot of advanced security tools and equipment to
ensure the security of guests (Drucker, 2016).
Being at the verge of training under the security department, I was able to develop problem
solving skills. The main objective of my position in the organization is to manage the security
team and coordinate with them to look into security measures to add value to customer
satisfaction. Problem solving skills helped me to identify the issues faced by customers as well as
employees and support me to find out solution to the issues. During the first week of my training,
I came to know about various challenges faced by security department in fulfilling the objectives
which helped me to develop analytical skills.
In the entire apprenticeship period, I have gained knowledge on how to distribute task and
activities and set priority as per the needs of customers and organization. Appropriate scheduling
of activities helped me to add time management skills in my career portfolio (Katzenbach and
Smith, 2015). In the last week of my training period I learned to handle pressure with greater
responsibility. Such skills helped me to set priority and assure completion of work with quality
and efficiency on time.
All the above skills develop in the entire learning process not only helped me to develop personal
and professional skills but at the same time support the organization to eliminate flaws that resist
its growth and development.

P4.4 Make recommendations on how the experience could have been enhanced
Work based experience helped an individual to develop skills with context to many aspects of
career as well as organizational growth. However, there is need of improvements in various areas
which will further enhance the learning experience of an individual. Training in more practical
manner can be done at different locations to transform ideas into reality. Training at different
location also helped to gain knowledge about new tools and techniques equipped in different
working environments (Ainley and Rainbird, 2014). For an instance trainees can be taken to
different hotels to gain knowledge about security procedures followed by them and same or
better can be adopted by employer for further betterment of the organization.
Training by managers and supervisors must be more practical as compared to theoretical. Current
work experience is based on security profile which requires practical knowledge to ensure
security measures in the organization. Therefore to increase the efficiency of work it is important
to arrange facilities for practical training. For further enhancement of learning experience,
organization must focus on taking initiatives for better time management so that specific task can
be accomplished on time. Appropriate training of an individual must be focussed upon for
development of skills that can be further used to accomplish some specific and typical jobs.
Management must provide support to the trainees so as to achieve desired goals and objectives.
This can be done by undertaking training and development sessions which will further enhance
the learning process and increases productivity (Burgin and Sadler, 2016). With all the above
recommendations, my performance flaws can be rectified and boost up my potential to work in
the desired manner. Encouraging employees to attend workshops that exhibit security of
customers in hospitality industry also helped to bring new innovation in the organization which
will further would add an advantage to the career.

Conclusion
During the entire study in context to work experience in Hotel Hilton it has been concluded that
that work experience has built up the capability to identify things in better manner. My internship
in hospitality industry has helped me to gain better career opportunities with an objective of
ensuring security of customers and employees of the organization. My major interest was to
serve customers in most efficient manner. I realised that it is important to adopt flexible
behaviour so as to achieve desired outcomes beneficial for the organization. It has also helped
me to learn hard work, critical thinking, corporate relationship, and focus. Before being
appointed as Corporate Security Officer, I only focused on learning part rather than earning
monetary benefits. Training period is highly effective in understanding belief as well as values of
people. Corporate things and management is now easier to understand and will be very helpful to
fulfil the expectation of the organization with regards to Corporate Security Officer.
