Research methodology introduce to the essential and effective process of collecting and
evaluating information regarding any topic or subject. Main aim of research methodology within
a dissertation is to assist researcher by giving them accurate and reliable information about the
existing topic. Therefore, by getting accurate data, researcher become able in accomplishing
research aim as well as each objective effectively. There are several types of research
methodologies that are valuable in current dissertation. These are explained as below in context
of the present topic or dissertation;
Research philosophy: Philosophy introduces to the process of gathering, analysing and using
information regarding any topic (Alrowwad and et. al., 2018). There are basically two types of
research philosophy such as positivism and interpretivisim. Both types of research philosophies
are described as below:
Positivism philosophy: This is an effective type of research philosophy that helps
researcher in gathering and evaluating quantitative data about the topic.
Interpretivisim philosophy: This is another type of philosophy that assist researcher in
gathering and analysing qualitative data.
Justification of the chosen philosophy: From the above mentioned philosophies, positivism is a
chosen research philosophy because it helps in gathering, analysing and using of quantitative
information. As compared to interpretivisim philosophy, positivism is cost-effective, time-
effective and helps in achieving valid outcomes. Along with this, there are various benefits of
using positivism philosophy i.e. provide objectivity and validity to a research, not consume
maximum time etc.
Research approach: This is the process followed by researcher for evaluating gathered
information about the topic. There are two effective types of research approaches i.e. inductive
and deductive (Álvarez‐Pérez, Carballo‐Penela and Rivera‐Torres, 2020). These are main
approaches and helps researcher in evaluating of information about the topic. Both methods of
data collection are explained as below:
Inductive approach: This is an essential approach that facilitate researcher in evaluating
of qualitative information effective.
Deductive approach: This is another approach of research that facilitate in evaluating of
quantitative data about the research topic.

Justification of the chosen approach: Above mentioned both approaches of data collection are
essential but according to the current dissertation, deductive approach is more valuable and
essential for the researcher. There are various benefits of using deductive approach i.e. facilitate
in evaluation quantitative information, not takes maximum time and cost etc. These are main
advantages of deductive approach that assist investigator in accomplishment of each objective of
the research (Ansari, Gopalakrishnan and Jasti, 2020). Inductive is another approach of the
research that is not valuable in current dissertation because it not assists in evaluating numerical
data as well as takes maximum time.
Research strategy: There are various types of research strategy that are effective in
collecting of information regarding any topic. These strategies are case study, survey, action
research and many more. All these are main strategies and defined as below:
Action research: This is an essential research strategy that helps in collecting of data
from educational industry.
Case study: This is another type of research strategy that facilitate in collecting
secondary information regarding the topic.
Survey: This is an effective research strategy that facilitate in gathering of primary
information from larger sample.
Justification of the chosen strategy: From the above mentioned all these are effective strategies
but according to the existing topic or dissertation, survey is a main strategy because it helps in
collecting of primary and quantitative information within minimum time. There are different
benefits of using survey strategy i.e. relatively easy to researcher, high representativeness, helps
in collecting primary and quantitative data and many more. Therefore, as compared to all other
strategies, survey is cost and time saving strategy (Asumadu, 2019).
Research design: This is the process of identifying the research problem through
effective research strategy. There are basically three main types of research strategy such as
exploratory, descriptive and experimental. These are main but in accordance to the present study,
descriptive design is more beneficial and essential because it assist in using, collecting and
evaluating quantitative information.
Research choice: There are three main types of research choices i.e. mono method,
mixed method and multi-mixed method. All these are main choices that are explained as below:

Mono method: This is a method of the research choice that helps in gathering of only
one type of data, either qualitative or quantitative.
Mixed method: This method of the research choice helps in collecting of both qualitative
and quantitative data.
Multi-mixed method: This method is similar with mixed method and helps in gathering
qualitative and quantitative data.
Therefore, above mentioned all these are effective choices of the research but fir carrying out
current dissertation, mono method is a selected research choice. Quantitative research is used
under mono method because it helps researcher in gathering of numerical information within
minimum time period. There are certain benefits of using quantitative research such as not takes
maximum time, helps in collecting of numerical information, cost effective and many others. All
these are main benefits of using quantitative research (Caesar and Fei, 2018). On the other hand,
qualitative research is not essential within a dissertation because it is not time and cost effective
as well as not assist in getting of reliable outcomes.
Time horizon: Time horizon is referred as method that clearly describes the time framework for
the dissertation. It is used by investigator to achieve every objective in systematic and successful
manner. There are two kinds of time horizon that are cross-sectional and longitudinal time
horizon (Devi and Saranya, 2021). Longitudinal studies are described as time horizon that are
repeated after specific time period. Cross-sectional time horizon is used because it focuses on
achieving objective in a limited period of time.
Data collection: Data collection is described as method used for collecting appropriate, reliable
and accurate information about the selected topic. It is the type of research methodology that is
commonly used for gathering data from different sources. Data collection is being classified into
two main parts of data collection that are primary and secondary data collection. This is the
method that focuses on measuring and collecting data for answering pre-defined research
questions and objectives. There are generally two kinds of data collection that are primary and
secondary data collection (Hebert, 2021). Investigator has selected primary as well as secondary
data collection method. Primary data collection is used because it is the type of information that
is gathered directly from the source of data without taking assistance of already published
resources. In the current dissertation, questionnaire is used to gather authentic, reliable and
accurate data about the topic. It is gathered in the form of opinion, knowledge and view of

chosen respondents. Secondary data collection is also considered for gathering existing
information about the topic from different sources. It is the kind of information that has already
collected by someone else in past for the fulfilment of personal motives. Secondary sources such
as books, newspapers, articles, business sites, publications, websites etc. These sources are easily
available because it is already published in public platforms.
Research instruments: Research instrument is referred as tool especially used for collecting,
measuring and analysing information related to research interests. The instrument of research is
identified by investigator as per the requirement of dissertation like survey, interview,
questionnaire etc. Questionnaire is selected as research instrument in the current dissertation
because it is reliable and valid. This method does not increase the cost of researcher to conduct

are selected randomly (Kochhar and Aranha, 2019). Main purpose behind the use of probability

maximum time. Therefore, probability is a selected sampling technique.
Research ethics: These are important within a dissertation because these helps in completing of

DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS
It is a significant part of the dissertation that helps researcher in discussing and analysing of
findings in appropriate manner. In order to discuss both type of data, there is requirement of
making themes. Therefore, discussion of the current dissertation is discussed through themes;
Theme 1: Basic understanding regarding the work life balance in context of Morrisons
As per the gathered information in the section of literature review with the help of
secondary resources it is analysed that work life balance is defined as prioritisation level between
professional and personal activities in the life of an individual and the level of operations related
to the current job are present at home (Nowak, 2020). Morrisons believes that an individual’s
happiness depends upon the level of difference between personal and professional lives. Work-
life balance is an ongoing topic in the workplace of Morrisons because there is no difference
between professional and personal because of increased use of mobile technology, cloud based
software and other services like internet had made easier for workforce to be at work
permanently (Patel, 2018). They all have decreased the difference between personal and
professional lives. It has created stress among employees due to poor work-life balance in
Morrisons. For resolving the issue of poor work life balance Morrisons is focused towards
introducing strategies and ways like flexible working hours so that employees could work
according to their need. This is helping Morrisons to give priority to their employee’s health and
economic problem. It has also analysed that measuring workforce’s productivity and growth are
interrelated to new inputs such as purpose, presence, creativity and engagement.
From the above mentioned primary information, it has been discussed that work life balance is a
broad concept that helps an organisation in increment of their employee performance and
productivity (Roopavathi and Kishore, 2020). Therefore, both types of data are related with each

paced business world employees are suffering with overloaded work and trying hard to maintain

Balance in work life and professional life is necessary because overloaded working is creating
stress, blurred difference between personal and professional time etc. There are many reasons
that make work life balance important in an individual’s life, some of them collected are:
decreasing problems related to health, it is one of the biggest importance of work life balance. If
an individual is taking stress due to work load then there are higher chances to get depression,
anxiety etc. Maintaining balance in work life assists in decreasing the chances of health issues
and it would also ensure that organisation is doing great in its normal working hours. Another
significance of great work life balance is increase in engagement as members of team help each
other to have a healthy balance between home and work. Engaged employees are great in making
loyal advocates for organisation’s product, service and brand.
From the above information gathered from the questionnaire, it has been discussed that there is
various importance of work life balance in modern business. This importance is more

each other, it means research aim and objectives are accomplished in successful manner.

According to the gathered information through secondary sources for attaining objectives, it
could be analysed offering work-life balance to employees helps Morrisons to increase their
performance and productivity. By having balance in work-life an individual could easily
maintain mental health which ultimately assists in keeping away from anxiety, insomnia and
depression. Morrisons focuses on ensuring that their workforce is not overloaded with work and
is not suffering from stress due to work. Morrisons considers different kinds of strategies and
ways that could support workforce to maintain balance between professional and personal lives.
It has been recorded that employees are provided flexible timing so that they could easily
manage their professional and personal work. When employees get flexibility in work regarding
their working hours or shift times they become motivated to perform their task with more

they continuously communicate with employees and identify the problems they are dealing with.
One of the benefits include increased productivity that is gained by Morrisons as well as
workforce because of systematic balance in work-life. With the assistance of balance work life
employees could easily concentrate on their particular action and their attention does not get
disturbed. As employees become more focused towards their goal they automatically contribute
in achieving pre-defined targets of organisation. Another benefit may include great
communication and team work as Morrisons is concerned about offering work-life balance to
employees that ultimately leads to great and healthy relationship between employees. They
support each other in performing certain tasks and promote real time communication among
employees.

As per the information collected for literature review it has been analysed that there is positive
impact of increased employee performance and productivity in Morrisons because it makes
employees efficient enough to achieve targets of organisation in the limited time period. It is the
duty of managers of Morrisons to make sure that productivity and performance of employees are
improving every day. One of the ways that are used by managers to increase productivity of
employees work-life balance, they ensure that workers do not get pressurised by the overloaded
work. With the assistance of increased productivity of employees Morrisons is able achieve its
pre-defined objectives within short time duration without wasting limited resources. It ultimately

assists in not increasing the cost of organisation because employees are efficient enough that they
do their work without any error in the workplace. Another positive impact of improved
performance of employees is great customer’s service that helps Morrisons to increase its
customer base (Yu, 2019). Their employees provide service of high quality to employees that
encourage them to again visit to purchase their needed products or items. Increased customers
lead Morrisons to increase level of profitability and revenue and to stay competitive in the
market place among different competitors.

CONCLUSION
From the above collected data it is summarized that work-life balance plays major role in
every individual’s life because everyone is continuously work and does not give importance to
personal life. This ultimately leads to anxiety, depression etc. Nowadays, organisations have
started given importance to personal lives of employees that mean they are adopting that could
help employees to maintain balance between their professional and personal lives. It has
recorded in the current research project that employees who have good balance between their
professional and personal work are more productive, active and empowered to attain pre-defined
objectives of organisation. Along with this, from the above mentioned findings and discussion, it
has been summarised that most of the respondents have accurate understanding about the work

because then only organisation could towards success and development. Some of the suggestions
that are recommended to Morrisons to maintain provide work-life balance to employees are:
Offer remote and flexible working: Employees do give value and importance to
flexible working. Morrisons must also adopt this strategy because employees want to be
managed by themselves. Workers give significance to employers who encourage them to
organise and manage their valuable time. This is important for Morrison to offer remote
working to their employees because it turn to impact in management of employee’s work
life balance. Offering remote working to the workers helped them in feeling more
satisfied, valued and motivated. This is beneficial for Morrison in improvement of their
productivity and profitability level successfully and within minimum time period.
Encouraging managers to focus on productivity factor rather than hours: Managers
or employers should show concern on productivity rather than counting working hours
of employees. Morrisons must encourage leaders and managers to concentrate on
completion of a specific activity. There are some days where employees need to work
more than usual hours but this could be offset by the days when there is no requirement
to work whole 8-hour day.
Encourage breaks: Morrisons must empower employees to take breaks time to time,
should offer facility to work in any part of the office or they must provide free time to
take small walk around the office. Morrisons could make rooms for break-out or keep
spare desks that employees could go to. It is believed that this would assist in creating
