INTRODUCTION
The entire report is based upon the process of selection and recruitment in the company like
UPS. Where various measures are taken by the HR manager to bringing improvement in the
working of the UPS as the company was suffering loss and thousands of employees were leaving
the company. The report will present the ideas and suggestions of how drastic changes could be
initiated to bring the positive changes into the company. Also it will focus upon what processes
and methods are needed to be corrected for improvising the working of the company. Different
methods are been used for recruiting and selecting the applicants for the job in UPS.

TASK 1
1.1 Documentation required for selection and recruitment process
Being the new HR manager of the United parcel services I will look upon the selection and
recruitment process by adding up various documentation to complete the process in the most
effective and efficient manner some of the important and necessary documentations are
mentioned below.
I would firstly focus upon the resume of an individual who comes for an interview at UPS, might
be before or at the time when he or she appears for the interview. As resume is very necessary
document for appearing in any type of job interview it reflects the persons skills, his apt , his past
experiences as well as his achievements and awards he has been recognised with which might
include of national or international level. I would ensure that the applicant who is presenting the
interview may make sure to update his resume before he appears for the interview. Also I will
look forward upon his qualifications and knowledge so that I could judge accordingly. With the
help of resume it becomes easy for the interviewer to make his judgement also he gets aware of
the persons abilities.
Along with this there are other necessary documents such as job description, job specifications.
Etc.to has each and every detail of the applicant as well about the job for which vacancy is being
announced.
1.2 Legal, regulatory and ethical considerations on recruitment
There are certain basic requirements being a HR manager I will initiate into the UPS or the
betterment of its legal, regulatory and ethical considerations. There are a lot more things and area
where the UPS really need to work for again retaining the same trust of their employees as well
as their customers who once had faith into the UPS. While initiating the recruitment and
selection process in would avoid certain list of questions which usually detaches the interest of
the applicant from the job like will it be ok for them you work as overtime and on the irregular
schedules in case certain situations will influence our UPS to do? Will they be able to cope up
with such hectic circumstances? Also I will clear complex questions like does they have any
medical issues or diseases in the interview session itself so that it may not create a problem later
on for my organisation. Whereas I would keep my entire focus upon recruiting the right person

for the right job as this would become my key for the success of the UPS. The whole story and
success ends here if the despotic process may not be initiated through the right method. Studies

I believe recruitment and selection are the key functions of the any Human resource manager
also to identify, select and doing the screening of the applicants who has applied for the job.
Selecting the best and the most appropriate candidate would be my major concern for UPS. As it
is not an easy task to select and recruit the candidates when it comes to small businesses. The
entire success depends upon the appropriate selection of the candidates for the company. While
keeping the issue in focus I would evidence the recruitment and selection process by keeping
various documentation in concern which are job description as being the HR of the UPS I will
look after preparing the job description of the company so that in the beginning only I could
make it very clear to the applicants about what profession, qualification, education and
experience I m looking forward for the specific job or the specific position. This will diminish
the doubts in the minds of the employees that what am I being the HR of UPS is expecting out of
them. Then another important thing I would add up into the entire process is appropriate
screening of the applicants by pouring the qualified persons and to weed out those who are
lacking behind in the qualification and knowledge.

2.1 Skills and attributes of leadership
Developing people skilss- The first and the foremost importanat quality or skills a leader must
posses in the skill of leading people afterall if the leader wont be effective he can’t influence his
followers. We all know without leaders there is no role of the followers. So ledaers must have
the skills to working with different people , one to one and also on the group basis. Not only this

but a leader must have various tools to deal with different sitauations which comes his way like a
barrier. The leader must be master in how to delegate.
Effective persoanl qialities – There are ample number of qualities which a leader tend to
display. Its not always necessary that the leader may persue the qualities from withinn but they
could be learned or improved by the time because the leader is the one who influences and
motivates his followers by his work and job. The leader could posses activeness. Assertiveness,
undersatnding empathy , being charismatic etc. the qualities of leader makes him shine bright
whoch people want to follow a leader.
Effective communication- Nothing works well if the leader lacks in his communication skills.
Good leaders are expected alwayd to be the good listners, able to listen each and everything
being said very actively and try to collect the Leader is one who makes their proint but firmly
and empathy, undersatnding of how otehrs feel. They know very well that how effectively they
can make a report good, how they can convincve peple and how they can delegate tehir work to
others. Good leaders are good at public speaking they seek attention from tehir followers while
they speak.
2.2 Difference between leadership and management with reference to UPS
There are offcourse various differences between laedership nad management and if we talk in
reference with the better improvemeent of the UPS then we know it very well tha the job of
managers is to manage only the employees so in UPS the manager must look after all the
employees so that he may have the complete account of the same whereas the leaders jo is to
look after the hearts and minds of the follower which means to undersatnd their feelings and
their suggestions if both manager and leader will perform their indiviadial task effectively this
will automatically result in the improvement of UPS. Also the managers should react on the
change whereas the leader always should forward to create the changes. Both manager nad
leader must perform their job effectively at their part. Managers should focus upon bringing the
new ideas where the job of leader should be to implement the same so that both of them go hand
in hand with each other. Managers work is to communicate whereas leaders work is to prersuade.

Managers should suppose to direct groups in UPS whereas the leader must look after creating
teams into he company through which both the part that is manageement and leadership may be
applied effectively into the UPS company which may result in better working and better
improvement.
2.3 Leadership styles in reference with the UPS
Usually there are three types of leadership styles which could be applied in different situations
in UPS and its better working the first style of leadership is autocratic under this type of
leadership the entire right is on the hands of the leader, where the nature of leader is usually
harsh and strict. This type of leadership could be applied in the UPS when the employees get
lazy or take their job for granted also when they have no clue about what type of job they are
suppose to do so the autocratic leadership style could be adopted through which the leader could
train his team members by delegating work to them also by giving orders to them. This style of
leadership will result in speeding of the work as well as timely finishing up the target. The
second type of leadership style is democratic where the leader takes decision by involving his
team members into the decision this type of leadership could be applied which will help in
building the trust of the employees for their organisation as well as for their leader so they ill
perform well and indirectly this will improve the working of the UPS.
2.4 Different ways to motivate staff
There could be two types of motivation like it could be monitory or non monitory both helps in
motivating the employees to work more efficinetly and effectively for the company.
Nothing could be better then providing them incentives or you can also set basis of standard and
you can provide points to the one who meet up the set standards. Building trust with them also
motivates them. Make them realise that you have faith in them and depends on them , they will
fill those shoes sooner than you think. A vote of confidence can go a lomg way. Try it. Provide a
positive vision to your employees so that they may have a clue that whichever task they are
performing they are performing for a purpose, for an objective to achieve. Beacuse when you
share your vision with them, they work more strongly for the company and through which
compny experienxes excellence. Always make sure that you radiate positive energy to them as
this gives them new zeal to work and perform well. For this you have to be high on power all the

time so that you can pass on the same to them. Give them rewards for their exellent performance
so they feel appreciated and recognised in their own company, this not only adds up to the
employees happiness but also to his performance and success. Another importanat way is to
always have an open door policy which means give your employees the chance to speak and to
give their views this motivates them fortunately.
TASK 3
3.1 Benefits of team working for UPS and its improvement
Working with team will help the employees of UPS to maintain good relationship with each
other, when you have good communication with others it brings positive vibes into you as well
as into your work which enhances your performance along with the organisation. Keeping the
view in focus i grasped that UPS was lacking much more behind in maintaining the goodwill as
well as the good relationship with their employees the study said the employees were harsh and
sometimes very rude to their customers. So if the relations will be good in UPS this will help in
avoiding conflicts and unnecessarily wastage of time so that UPS could utilize the same time in
some productive work. Also working in a team lessons the work burden on any particular
individual as team meaning together we achieve more so when UPS will work in team they could
able to achieve more than are achieving now this will directly affect the growth of the company.
3.2 importance of working in team as a leader
Being the leader I believe team working is essential in corporate for better output and a better
bonding among the employees and the team members. As we know very well that UPS is not a
organisation that runs charity so they need to achieve the targets and revenue are for sure to be
generated from the same. Also the task could not be kept pending for so long they need to be
completed at some point of time. So I think a single mind can not come up with maple number of
solutions or can take decisions alone. Every individual needs some or the other person with
whom e can share his ideas or views being in a team helps you to get the best solution out of the
prevailing various alternatives which has been presented by different individuals who posses
different thought process.

3.3 Effectiveness of team
When the UPS will work in team they would be able to achieve more and faster as compared to
if it is done by individual rather than the group. Obviously an individual takes more times to
finish up the task as he is the single handed person responsible for each and everything. The
burden gets very high and which posses stress and complexity. While working in the group
lessons the responsibility, stress, duties etc. also you get the benefit of specifications because
every individual is specialized in different areas and differ from each other in their thoughts as
well as in their views. Another effectiveness of working in team is that you learn to solve
conflicts because you know nothing can’t be changed and anyhow you have to work with your
team also you learn to rely on people and build trust where this is the key element which UPS is
lacking in. Hence there are lot many benefit to work in a team for UPS’s growth and
improvement.
TASK 4
The company UPS is one of the largest parcel services in UK. No doubt they had very good
relationships with their customers before but as an when the customers realised that the
employees and the staff members of the UPS are lacking behind in time and not delivering the
goods on time they have started avoiding the UPS and also the customers who retained at UPS
for such a long period they also tend to drop the idea of taking the services from UPS. This has
affected the goodwill of the UPS.
Where as if we talk about the deliver plan for the development needs of individual one should be
very much particular about time because in UPS time is the key factor. Employee must focus on
timely delivering the goods and making their customers happy. Because if the customers will be
happy they will retain to UPS for long run. The individual must have a good communication
with their superiors, subordinates as well as with their customers. Maintaining good relation will
avoid conflicts and will help in building trust of the customers into the UPS.
If we talk about the success assessment process of UPS then definitely UPS will achieve the best
target and will get back to the same top position where earlier it was. If proper selection and
recruitment will be done of the applicants for the job then there is a wider scope for the UPS to
achieve its desired goals an targets. Also the customers will retain back to them and this will
raise the goodwill of the UPS on the whole.
