Exploratory Writing Techniques
Introduction
A common saying says that man is to error. It is not every person who can be perfect in
writing. Therefore, it is part of humankind to make mistakes in writing. However, what one finds
challenging in a writing process might not be challenging to another person. This piece of work
addresses the challenges which I find challenging when writing. Then my big question is, what
techniques can I use to avoid these writing challenges? The techniques will be discussed in this
piece of work. Finally, the techniques will be evaluated on their effectiveness.
Challenging Aspects of Writing
In most of my writing, I have been experiencing a great challenge in writing words with
wrong spellings. This is not because am not aware of the right spellings, but because I write fast
and finally find that some words have been spelt wrongly. Additionally, my writing has been
filled with repeated words, which brings no meaning in the sentence. However, my greatest
challenge, which has given me deep anxiety is punctuating. Use of punctuation marks such as
commas and full stops has been a weakness in my writing, where I fail to use them where they
are required.

Firstly, Hyatt et al (2017) say that proofreading is an important technique which can help
one get rid of some writing errors or mistakes. Proofreading involves reading through the work
after writing, checking on spellings, punctuation marks, and sentence structure. The identified
mistakes are then corrected, making the piece of work spelling and grammar mistakes-free.
Secondly, accepting criticisms which are constructive is very helpful. This means giving
the piece of writing to a peer or an expert to go through it and critic the work by highlighting the
parts which have errors, or which need to be improved to make the work better (Yastıbaş and
Ahmet, 2015). With this criticism, I can be shown errors which I might not be aware of. For
example, in the punctuation, I may fail to understand where I should use a comma, quotation
marks or any other punctuation mark. Therefore, by accepting criticism I get to understand when
and where I should incorporate the punctuation marks.
Thirdly, reading several books can also help extend my knowledge on the usage of
punctuation marks (Mikhalevich, 2017). By interacting with different sentences in the book, I get
to see and understand how punctuation marks have been used. In addition, reading different
books can equip me with more vocabularies which I can use in different writings. Moreover,
there are books which explain how to use punctuation marks. By reading them, I can gain more
knowledge and make my writing better by reducing mistakes on punctuation as well as other
writing mistakes.
Finally, writing regularly can help me in becoming more conversant with writing
mistakes and hence minimize them. Hyatt et al (2017) say that experience is the best teacher.
